That's a tough question to answer a four year old. I remember my parents used to explain things too complex for me and it would be a lot to think about, but I would definitely say explain it as well as you can. And he might get more than you think? You never know- when my step-sis was five, I was watching the pilot of Lost, and the first shot of Sawyer came on and she plopped down and asked, "Is he a bad guy?" I told her he's not exactly a bad-guy, but he sometimes does bad things, and she thought about it a minute and went into this rambly five-year-old explanation of that concept and I was astonished that she knew what I meant. Toby might not get it yet, but if you give him the best explanation you can, it might set him up to get it in the future?
