Sep. 28th, 2006 07:43 amOkay. WHY is this fic going in the direction that there was a point Sirius was almost a PRIEST? (Okay, it was when he was 11. But still.) ::Head meets desktop.::
In other news, Toby has gotten up (sort of) five out of the last six nights. UGH! Last night he just fussed- woke me up but he went back to sleep after 10 minutes or so. The other four he's needed a bottle.
Urgh. On the one hand, I don't want to deny the kid food. If he's hungry, he's hungry, and that's saying he's not getting enough, because babies only eat until they're full. And he is kind of skinny- 50th percentile for height and 25th for weight. But on the other hand, I REALLY don't want him getting into the habit of a 4 AM bottle. He's been sleeping through the night- we've just had this problem very recently. Last night I gave him some yogurt before I gave him his bath and bottle, and he was able to go back to sleep.
The doctor said it could be any number of things. It could be teething, it could be a growth spurt, it could be because he's just about to walk (he's all but walking on his own already!). It's obviously nothing to worry about- he goes back to sleep after a bottle. I'm far more worried about breaking good habits than I am about something being wrong.
The thing is, I'm not sure where to add in more food. He eats breakfast at 6:45, then he has a 9:30 bottle (I've started adding some table food there, but the amount he eats doesn't exactly up his calorie count), and then he naps afterwards. He has lunch at 12:30-1, which is jarred food (2-3 jars of stage 2), then a bottle at 2:30 (which I should add some table food to), and then a nap after that. That nap generally lasts until 4:30-5:00. The problem is he eats dinner at 6:15. If he gets up at 5, and I give him a snack, by the time he's done eating that, it's dinner time. He gets a bottle before bed at 8:15, and I added the yogurt in before his bath yesterday.
He still needs 16-24 ounces of formula a day, so I want to make sure he's getting that. I'm also trying to get him to eat table food, and being met with limited success so far. Graham crackers were a hit, but so far he's refused to even TOUCH the cheese crumbles. And he isn't big on Cheerios. What baby doesn't like Cheerios????
9 month doctor's visit went well. He's 19.5 pounds, and 28.25 inches. He's still a major blondie, and I'm going to have to take him to get a haircut soon. Doctor was pleased with everything- everything looks good, thank God. Although I sometimes worry he's not progressing at the rate he should, even though everyone keeps telling me he seems like he's very bright. I think I worry about it more than I should because hubby's family has a history of mild mental handicaps.
My mother-in-law came over the other day and watched Toby for a few hours while I cleaned the house. You know, there needs to be more appreciation for the GOOD mothers-in-law out there. Mine might do things that drive me nuts every now and then, but overall, she's just such a warm, caring person who's raised some pretty great kids. Toby was a bit of a terror for her, unfortunately. He knew I was in the house and ignoring him. ::Sigh:: But she put up with it.
We've also been running in the morning (I'd better go soon, I think). Toby seems to enjoy it- even if it does put him to sleep.
In other news, I have a review of Taps started (yay!), but how far I'll get this weekend is a mystery. I'm determined to take some time today to chat with
pfrsue because it's been way too long, but I have SO much work... I shouldn't even be typing this. We're hosting a playgroup tonight here, and then hosting a baby shower on Sunday. Looking forward to both, but the house is still not where it needs to be, and I have a lot of cooking and decorating and errand running in my future. Fortunately, baby's grandma is doing the bulk of the cooking- I just have to make 2 baked ziti, one of the three sheetcakes, and all of the frosting, because I'm decorating the cakes. (I'm making that baby block cake.)
And as hard as my neighbor and I try, we just can't seem to keep from mirroring the current political situation in our fantasy world. We've known we have terror cells, I created a suicide bomber the other day, and they're fighting over something that's crucial to energy production.
Okay, a baby is pulling at my leg as his way of saying "Mom, get off your computer and get your butt in gear," so, seeya!
(BTW- I will somehow get DTF and the AIL links at FA back online. Just need time!.)
