I finally sent Chapter 12 of AIL and Though I Speak With the Tongues of Men and Angels to Fiction Alley. I'm not too behind on AIL, but Men and Angels? I wrote that back in October, and posted on All Saints' Day.

Speaking of religious holidays, Lent begins on Wednesday. I'm not Catholic, but I'm going to give up something for it this year- sweets. I feel a little bad about using a religious period as a dieting aid, but I'm hoping the spiritual aspect of it will give me strength when will power fails. (Especially since I don't truly believe in giving up sweets as a dieting aid. I believe in moderation.) So, yeah. No sweets.

I've also made a resolution that makes me happy. I'm toying with where I want my characters to end in the Eiswelt project, and I realized that I want my one female POV character to end up single. Partly because I hate the Noah's Ark mentality, and my other characters are hooked up. (Although two came to me as a couple, and the second's current fiance' (second wife) is a major plot point and a major character as well.) But I also started thinking about the message it would send if I hooked her up with the person she has a crush on now, and two seconds of logical thought said I do NOT want to be the author who hooks a former slave girl up with her former owner. I'm sure much of my f-list can concur with this thought. And as I looked at her arc, her arc is going from being a scared, uncertain slave girl to an independent woman. She's not going to hate men or relationships- I just don't plan on that being her focus. This is good :)

Suppose I should clean and make soup for playgroup!

I like the way your writing logic works. I wish more writers could avoid the 'Noah's Ark mentality'(I'm borrowing this) in their works; too many of them can't and fall into the stereotypes you mention of awkward/sudden relationship or I-now-hate-(insert proper gender here)-grr. Independent does not mean man-/woman-hating and three cheers for linking it to a healthy mindset!

As to the sweet-eating, my motto is 'Moderation in Excess'.

I think I picked Noah's Ark mentality (the phrase) up from somewhere else :) But it does fit, doesn't it?

And yeah- that actually totally got to me in the HP books, and it gets to me in everything else. And as I was looking at our romantic connections, I was just kind of thinking, "hmmm. Very few people in this group aren't hooking up. Uh-oh!"

I like your sweet eating motto :)

Ah, sorry. Eiswelt is the project I'm working on with my 10-year old neighbor next door. She wanted some extra enrichment, but her parents didn't want her doing anything too formal- they want her to have time to be a kid. So the solution (which she proposed) was to work with me for a few hours each week. The world we've created is called Eiswelt. I'm actually really pleased with it so far.

{*eyes her cup with the remains of Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie ice cream in it*}

It's a good motto, isn't it? I should remember it more often!

See, I am Catholic and I'm not giving anything up for Lent. Sort of funny.

I do NOT want to be the author who hooks a former slave girl up with her former owner.

You could hang out with the writers of Rome, anyway. :)
