Two fics to pimp today.

The first is a wonderful fic that [livejournal.com profile] ignipes wrote for me, called Muggle Studies. The challenge/prompt/request was Sirius or Remus had to defend a paper they wrote at Hogwarts. I'm so glad she picked Sirius- the world does not have enough smart Sirius characterizations. I love [livejournal.com profile] ignipes writings in general; she's one of the few writers I know that can so seemlessly insert very creative references to Wizarding culture. It's not fluff, it's not angst... it's just GOOD. Go read it, especially if you're a fan of academic!Sirius.

The other I came across on Fiction Alley, and is sorely underappreciated in the R/S world. It's called A Crazy Little Thing Called Love, by Original_Dessie. Rated PG or PG-13 (I forget which), it's sort of a how-they-got-together fic, but along the lines of Redeeming Time in terms of pacing and characterization-over-sex. Five chapters long and five perspectives (including a well-written Peter!), and a lot of interesting twists and turns, and the best OC since Sin Wildsmithe. (Look, I REALLY like Sin, okay?) Seriously- I can't say much at all about the OC, since it's one of the best twists in the fic, except to say you really should check this one out. You can also tell she's a huge Terry Pratchett fan- some of her lines very much remind me of his style, and the humor is similar. It's a lighter fic, and really really really just absolutely delightful, especially for an author that doesn't have much under her belt in this fandom. (I asked.)

American Idol on tonight, too. I might just watch the last two minutes or whatever, to see if Carrie or Bo wins. I'm not sure who I'm rooting for. I love Bo, but I think he'd actually be better off with a different contract. (And I get a little suspicious that the winners have then been girl-boy-girl-boy.) But I also think Carrie is excellent. The honest truth is I really don't care, because they'll both get contracts and live Happily Ever After. I'm just glad Constantine isn't one of the final two. (It made my night when he was booted. It's not nice to say, but it really, really did.) I guess I'm kind of hoping for Carrie to win, because I think the AI type of contract and the stuff they'd have her sing would actually help her, whereas Bo would be better off striking off on his own at this point, I think. (Once his shorter contract with AI runs out, anyway.)

And I really should write more AIL. And my review for Empire Strikes Back. And stuff for the Mutant Summit. And call one of my best friends, who it's normally an evening-long commitment to talk to. And call my sister's other two bridesmaids.

Hmm. Better scoot!

ETA: Well, Carrie won. Honestly? Even though I said I think Bo would be better off, I'm a little disappointed. I really liked Bo. Oh well.
