Whee! Remix pinch hit is done and posted! Why is it I always like my pinch hit better than my first one? I like my first one I did this time, and last time. Don't get me wrong. But I think I put too much pressure on myself on the first ones. I want them to be amazing, because damn it, I want to be that one that everyone recs. (Don't we all?) The pinch hit, because I have such a short period of time, I can't put that sort of pressure on myself. Consequently, I have more fun and let it flow better.

I'm dying to see my remix. You know what's funny? I have this theory on who wrote my remix and what fic they remixed, just based on one thing they said in their journal. I don't know why. But I read a three word- totally vague- description of the original story someone was remixing, and I said, "Wouldn't it be funny if that was [insert fic title here]?" I'd be psychic if I'm right.

It's Friday, thank God! I feel like a kid whose parents went away for the weekend, though. Lots of clean up before hubby comes home! :) I'm going to take Toby to the park once he wakes up, though. It's FINALLY a nice day, and he loves being outside. He deserves some serious fun, and digging in the sand and going down slides and playing on swings totally qualifies.



So, Sanjaya was finally cut from American Idol. Hallelujah. I don't hate the kid- not at all. Quite the opposite. He seems like the sort of kid I'd love to have in youth group. I just felt really, really bad for him being such a national (international?) joke. And he had to have known he was. One day I should try to find an interview with him or something. Anyway, I'm glad he's out of the spotlight for a while. But the kinds of things people were saying about him... not that he's not a great singer or that he looked creepy with the mustache, but that he's obviously gay (said with a very homophobic tone), that he's not American, and that he deserves not to get kicked off AI (which I agreed with) but to die? Scary, scary stuff.

Next week is the "Idol Gives Back" show. Let me tell you why this rubs me the wrong way:

1.) I know there are starving kids in Africa, and I do support helping these children. However, if you are doing a show called American Idol Gives Back, wouldn't it make more sense to help the millions of starving children in, oh, I don't know, AMERICA?

Helping starving African kids is a good thing. But just because a child is starving doesn't automatically mean he or she is African.

2.) The idea of "gives back" when they're getting corporate sponsership is really stupid. I'd like to see the producers and judges donate. But maybe they will, so if they do, I'll shut up about that.

3.) The whole concept of "giving back" like this annoys the hell out of me, to be honest.

I don't know a lot about economics, but I can say this: American Idol is not on a Public Broadcasting Station. It's not paid for by the government, and thus tax dollars. (I assume.) It is paid for by advertisers and producers, and they make money as a result. They make lots of money, but they EARN their money. Sure, it might not be the most noble work. And yes, I think certain people in the entertainment industry make an obscene amount of money. But they earn it.

If American Idol wrenched the money from pockets of these starving kids, or heck, even from government grants and all that and the money came from taxpayers, I could understand the "give back" concept. But to my knowledge (which is admittedly incomplete), they don't.

See, I don't think giving to charity is a bad thing. Heck, I think it's a very good thing and do so myself. But at the same time, I don't think anyone should feel guilty for earning money. I don't know. I'm just grumpy and taking it out on a very convenient, fun target :)





Speaking of TV, was anyone else disappointed with this week's Lost? While I could look at Desmond for a pretty long while, and thought the whole monk thing was pretty funny, I'm really resenting that they added in MORE questions rather than answering any. It's getting to the point where we need some questions answered. And while I appreciate some of my major minor questions being answered (I wanted to know why Locke was in the wheelchair, for example, but that's not a highly pivotal point anymore), I want some real answers regarding the Others. Sayid is about the only one not on my shit list because he actually ASKED Juliet straight out what the hell was going on.

And I know buttfacemakani thought of it too, but has anyone else entertained the notion that Ben's tumor was Juliet trying to make him preggers? Lost doing mpreg. It would be kind of funny.



Speaking of Desmond being attractive, that reminds me. You know how we always say "I could just watch him read the phone book and be happy?" Well, this morning Sesame Street aired the episode where Liam Neeson comes on and counts to twenty a couple of times. And yes, I could be happy watching Liam Neeson just count to twenty. It was actually really, really funny. The first time I saw it I was howling in laughter.

Anyway. Enough babble. I should clean... or something.

I feel the exact same way. I like my remix, but I keep thinking it could be better, and I'm so tempted to fiddle with it. My pinch hit, however, I just plain love and it literally flowed with ease. I'm sure it's because of the time constraints, I just didn't let myself feel the pressure and had fun with it. Ah well.

I have two theories as to who wrote my remix. I snuck a look while I was posting mine. Is that wicked and bad? I just glanced at the header and OMGSQUEE! I can't wait for it to go public so I can kick back and indulge myself.

No matter what anyone says about Sanjaya's singing, as far as I'm concerned he's shown nothing but total class and grace throughout his tenure on AI. I mean, here's an awkward, gangly 17-year-old who's getting maligned and mocked for his singing, and he has taken it all with amazing maturity. He never gave up, he gave his best every week, and he endured the feedback. He is young, he does have a ways to go to develop his talent, but so far? Total class act.

It's interesting you made your comment about pinch hits vs original assignments for Remix. A couple of other pinch-hitters I know, have said they felt rather guilty that their pinch-hit recipient is only going to get a pinch-hit. As if implying that length of time spent, is a measure of quality. But the best stories are often written on the fly, under pressure. So I'm thrilled that you enjoyed writing your pinch-hit. As far as I'm concerned, I usually can't tell the difference. (And if I get a pinch-hit, I'll be just as thrilled.)

Celebrities making a big deal out of their charitable endevors always annoys the hell out of me. I suppose it's good in that it alerts people to problems, but I wish celebrities would just donate money and shut up already.

Well, we now know why Desmond calls everyone "brotha". :) Seriously, I think this episode was just laying the groundwork for the next few. I think Desmond will be able to eventually end the Charlie-death cycle, maybe through some sort of sacrifice? And I'm pretty darn sure that the lady at the end who fell from the sky is one of Penny's minions searching for Desmond, cuz wasn't the men at that antarctic base Portuguese? And the cover of the book seems to imply that the woman from the sky is Portuguese as well.

Totally agree about Sanjaya being a class act. There are far worse people tweens could be crushing on :)

I think the luckiest people are the ones who get a pinch-hit and their original writer comes through. Two fics for the price of one!

I don't feel at all guilty my pinch hit remixee is getting a pinch hit :) (Heck- even if I did, [b]I'm[/b] not the one who should feel guilty! Her bailing writer should!) But yeah, some of the best fics I ever wrote were written far more quickly than the ones that I don't like as much.

They've said all sorts of nasty things. It's really sad, in its way. He's just a kid. (He still should have been kicked off. He wasn't a great singer and the others far outclassed him. But he's not the worst singer in the world (listen to me sing and you'll agree), and he's not a criminal or anything. ::Sigh:: People need lives.

And yeah, I agree. It's very pretentious for celebrities to make such a big deal out of it. Especially for something like starving children in Africa. Does anyone not know kids are starving in Africa? (Not saying they shouldn't help those charities. Just saying that they don't need to broadcast what they're doing in order to raise awareness of that particular problem. Want to really raise awareness? Show "The Invisible Children." Scary, scary, scary.)

I think you're right about it laying groundwork. I'm hoping Charlie escapes, because I do like him. I'm also hoping Desmond escapes, but with the whole "Desmond is a coward"/redemption theme, my guess is Desmond is going to have to sacrifice himself to save Charlie. :P

The woman being one of Penny's minions was my first thought, too.

I looked at Idol gives back on their website and they do state that it is not just for children in Africa, but for children in America as well.
While I understand people in other countries need help, I think it would be nice for a change if we could concentrate on the people in America that need help before we go offering our help to other countries.
