1.) As we get closer to DH-Day, I'm actually seeing the wisdom of releasing the movie and the book at the same time. The movie is getting all the press and attention right now. Given how tightly they're trying to keep DH under wraps, it's really seeming like this was a good idea. Interesting.
2.) I'm very much looking forward to seeing OotP, especially as it was my favorite book. I'm dying to see Umbridge on the screen. She's one of my favorite characters, in a twisted sort of way. She's just a FANTASTIC villain, far more than Voldemort. I hate Umbridge with a passion- I can't summon anything resembling passion for Voldemort. He's far from the worst villain I've ever read, but he's definitely got the Evil Overlord Syndrome going on. On the other hand, who doesn't know an Umbridge? She's just so deliciously evil.... Plus, I can't wait to see McG give her the smackdown. Must agree with![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
aome that one of the best lines in the series is "It unscrews the other way."
3.) Is it inter-ship unity week at FAP? Not that I plan on doing anything about it, just curious. I don't do anything about it because while there are lots of ships I don't like, I try not to bash them. The only one I do bash is R/T, and ONLY (I hope!) as JKR writes it. Or people who actually think the idea of werewolf cubs (not kids, werewolf cubs) are cute. But even bashing it as JKR writes it is getting boring. I mean, I seriously doubt she'll do my biggest "fear"- a double wedding with Bill and Fleur. (Can't see Fleur sharing the glory, can't see Remus and Tonks wanting that kind of wedding, and OH YEAH, they haven't been together that long.) Honestly? Screw shipping for DH. I want answers.
4.) Pet theory. Aside from my Peter's-silver-hand theory, here are a few of my others. They are in no way spoilery because they are in no way based on anything but the books and my own hubris.
-Remus actually suspected that Peter was the spy in 1981, but before he could say anything, Halloween happened. He then felt VERY guilty for believing that Peter could have been the spy, and his guilt helped to prevent him from reexamining things too closely.
-Hagrid will die. Somehow, I just don't think he's going to live through the series. I hope he does, I like Hagrid. (Can't stand Grawp, but I do like Hagrid.) But I think he's got GONER tattooed on his forehead.
-I don't think any of the trio will die. I've heard various rumors about any of the three dying, but while I could see Harry dying, I just can't see her killing of Hermione or Ron. Okay, so this is I don't WANT to see her killing of Hermione or Ron, but still. (I don't want to see her kill off Harry, either, but I accept that it will happen.) I think the classmate teacher will be either Neville teaching Herbology or Luna teaching Divination, but darn it, I want the trio to survive. Especially Ron.
-I don't think we'll know who got the reprieve until afterwards, but my money is on Lupin, simply because his story arc works equally well with his death or him being the sole survivor of his "generation". Cause I think Snape and Peter are goners as well.
-As Shaggy says, R.A.B. is Regulus and the locket is (was) in 12 GP (if Dung didn't nick it). Because I want ONE to be right :)
Those are my theories. They are quite dull. To be honest, I think JKR is going to tie things up in a way we haven't really thought of. Yes, there are things I don't like about her style. But she does twists extremely well. I think she's done a lot of set up, and I'm hoping for some revelations equivalent to the Secret Keeper Switch in the Shrieking Shack. (The Moody-Crouch one was pretty fantastic, too.)
6.) It's really funny to watch the Buffy series after being immersed in the HP fandom. Gah, influence at all? (Although I am still at a loss for why some people seem to confuse Draco and Spike. Spike is actually FUNNY. And a lot more actively evil than Draco's got the power to be.)
Still think one of the funniest things I've ever seen is Spike going on to everyone about his failed relationship with Drusilla, and then driving away singing and bouncing to "My Way."

4) Agreed on the deaths as well as the locket. I would love to see Snape stick around just to lord his secret work for good over all, though.

I love your Remus-Peter-spy theory. It works beautifully with Remus' canon personality traits.
Lupin has been the lone survivor for so long throughout the series I really don't know what to expect for him; in many ways he symbolizes endurance and survival, so my first guess was that he would survive DH, as well. I bet you're right that he's one of the people whose fate was changed, but I could argue myself into either direction. Second-guessing JKR gives me a headache after about five minutes.

Date: 2007-07-07 01:34 pm (UTC)1) Lupin will die. He's doomed. He is not needed anymore. His missions with the werewolves had no positive results, his relationship with Tonks is simply riddiculous - they have nothing in common. So I think he will die saving Harry sacrifying his life which enables Harry to kill Voldemort (power of love!).
2) Snape, of course, is on the light side. He had killed Dumbledore on request (D. would have died anyway and they wanted to prevent Draco from becoming a murderer).
3) Sirius will come back from the veil. Harry simply needs a mentor during his inevitably following auror training.
4) If I had it my way Remus and Tonks will marry, have a child (named Henry, can't explain why but he must be named Henry) that will attend Hogwards in a couple of years (with Lupin as DADA-teacher, Neville in herbology (yes, I agree with that) and Hermione as Potions Mistress) and so the series goes on and on and on ...
