Spoilers of All Sorts
Jul. 16th, 2007 01:10 pm1.) Saw OotP yesterday. LOVED it, aside from niggling little things which are behind the cut. I'm saving most of my thoughts for my MRFH review, but my shipping thoughts won't make it in. So...
Niggling things I hated- there are two.
1.) Add me to the list of people who hated Sirius calling Harry James. On the one hand, I can understand it, because Rowling only says 8,324,674,462 times that Harry looks like James but with Lily's eyes. If any other character had done that, totally understand. But with Sirius, because fandom can't get shades of gray, it bugs me.
2.) Harry's lame speech to Voldemort about how he'll never know love and friendship and he pities him. ::GAG::
MUCH that I loved, including all the kids (esp. Luna and YES, Ginny!), Tonks (she was adorable), Umbridge (except she was too attractive, but hey), Filch, the twins, the opening scene with Harry and Dudley which was PERFECT, the fight in the Ministry, etc. etc. etc.
Shipping thoughts:
1.) Honestly, I'll say I saw it because they're my OTP, but I didn't get terribly excited about Sirius/Remus in the movie. You could read it that way or you could read it as very close friendship. But I'll fangirl anyway. I have no patience, however, for those who want to argue that they were never that close as friends. Not lovers? Fine. But don't even try to tell me not brothers. And I wasn't disappointed that all those little moments that convinced me about R/S (because OotP is where I became a believer) weren't included, because let's face it- they just weren't that important to the plot.
2.) If I WAS going to ship from a movie, I would totally become a Harry/Tonks shipper. I loved them on the flight from Privet Drive to 12 GP, and like I said, Tonks is freaking darling. Go for the younger guy, hon. Seriously.
3.) Harry/Cho cracks me up as much on screen as it does in the book.
No other real shipping thoughts, because although this is my conversion novel to my OTP, it's not a shipping book.
2.) The ULTIMATE spoiler. (Don't worry. It doesn't need to be under a cut.)
I made my appointment for my 20 week ultrasound. For those not versed in pregnancy, that's the one where they can tell you the gender. SQUEEE!!!! I can't WAIT to find out! I'm kind of hoping for a boy, but really, I don't care that much. But yes, we're so finding out. A brief discussion of girls' names last time led us to the conclusion that only having to argue out one name would be a good thing.
The funny thing is, I found out Toby's gender right before HBP was released. Kind of cool, huh?
3.) My thoughts on on-line spoilers.
Honestly? I don't think most of them are real. Maybe they are, but you know why I don't? All of fandom knows about them and yet, they're still on line. Last time, lawyers were sending cease and desist letters to individual journals when the spoilers were right. These spoilers can be found on a community called SPOIL ME DH. While it's moderated, I don't believe the requirements for joining are really that stringent. Come on- is it really possible that the suits can't find this site?
Maybe they are real. Maybe they aren't. Some of the ones I've heard have really made me doubt it, because they just seem TOO pat or too unrealistic. I mean, I did lose some faith in JKR's writing of romance in HBP. But on the other hand, I didn't lose all of my faith. To that end:
10.) "My Sweetheart." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. SO teenage romance.
9.) Neville and Luna, and the fact they still checked their coins and remained very devoted.
8.) Luna's Quidditch commentary.
7.) "I'm not alone, Harry. I'm with you."
6.) Fleur being kick-ass and standing up to Molly at the end...
5.) ...and Molly being able to admit that she was wrong.
4.) Ron and Ginny at each other's throats. I have siblings. I don't care what people say about this- I think it was realistic.
3.) Come on. Did anyone REALLY see Snape killing Dumbledore like that? (Although I must admit I knew it was DD that was going to die. But still.)
2.) Harry as Quidditch captain. I really liked that, and I thought a lot of what he went through was very realistic.
1.) R.A.B. Because we all know it's Regulus, and that was just AWESOME.
I will admit I do expect the epilogue to be a bit glurgy and anti-climatic. Why? Never read one that wasn't, to be honest. And it's anti-climatic because, well, it's after the climax. As long as the climax of the book is exceedingly awesome, I am happy. However, if that speech Harry made in OotP is how he defeats Voldemort (and I really doubt it will be), I WILL be puking. But I suspect her editors would have been, too.
So, yeah. Not believing spoilers yet, and praying I have the willpower to avoid the ones I will believe.
4.) AIL. Don't know what's going on with it. I don't think I'll finish chapter 14 by DH, especially since it REALLY needs a good beta. There's a page-long monologue by Fenrir in there, and I suck at writing speech patterns. I don't know what will happen post-DH.
It's not that I think JKR will blow the possibility of R/S out of the water. The way I've written AIL, very few people know about it, and the rules are that R/S can in no way influence how 1981 went down. No lover's quarrels, no suspicions of cheating, etc. But I do think JKR might answer some questions like what any of MWPP did for a living, or if Remus was spying at all pre-1981, or whatnot. On the one hand, I'm only up to 1980, so I can incorporate the events that go right around 1981. On the other hand, we'll see what happens.
On to frantically finishing a story that is due ASAP. Five days until fandom totally changes. Wow. It feels strange.
