I'm Not Dead. (Yet.)

Trevor is six weeks old already. I can't believe it.

I'm also not sleeping much- he's up every few hours for food, and even if hubby gets up with him (which he does if Trevor gets up before 2:30 or so), I hear him and worry. Not about Trev being okay, but about hubby getting enough sleep.

However, I am giving up nursing at this point. We made it the recommended six weeks, and I'm only hating it more and more. Trevor has a nasty tendency to fall asleep any time he nurses, which is really aggravating because he falls asleep before he's done, and then 15 minutes later is looking for more. He doesn't do that with the bottle. Plus, I really, really, really want my body back.

I was feeling guilt about it yesterday. Then we watched an episode of Season 6 Scrubs where a rude waitress tells Jordan "You ARE breastfeeding, right?" And when Jordan finds out she was breastfed, she just says, "well, it made you a nosey buttinsky who's a slutty waitress in a bar, so... no." Hehehe. Not that I remotely think breastfeeding is bad, obviously. And I know some of you are huge proponents of it. But seriously- there are people out there that must drive the people on my list nuts, because they make your side look bad. :P

::sigh:: Time to get my boys up. I really need to get things accomplished!

I'm the first person to push breastfeeding to any mom-to-be I know. I'm also the first person to say, "You do what's right for you, and don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong." Don't feel guilty, and don't let anyone try to make you feel guilty.

Stay away from the LJ parenting communities! Stay faaaaar away! I had no idea breastfeeding was Serious Business until I came across the LJ BoobSquad. Doing what's right for you is never acceptable when you could be doing what they think is right instead!

I'm also with the "breast is best but you do what you gotta do" crowd. Obviously my girls were bottle fed their whole infancies, without suffering everlasting harm, so even though I (idealistically, since I've never done it) like all the benefits of breast-feeding, I'd be the first to tell you that you absolutely should NOT feel guilty if it doesn't work for your family. Trevor will be FINE.

And right now, getting the boys up (and dealing with them) IS getting something accomplished, even if it doesn't feel like it. *hug* Like I said, if you need adult companionship at some point, just give me a poke. :)

Aw, that's nice you worry about your hubby's sleep, but I'm more worried about yours!

And as for the nursing, you have to do what's best for you and your family as a whole, that's all. Trevor will grow up healthy no matter what you feed him. :D

I only breast-fed my son for about a month, despite heavy, heavy, heavy pressure from my naturopathic doctors. (They essentially wouldn't give me any information on mixing a healthy natural formula, even for the dads and grand-folks to use.) It was August and hot, I had allergies and eczema. One day I was visiting my parents and sort of freaked out that my milk wasn't coming down, my dad went to the store for formula, and that was more or less that. I switched doctors too.

The thing I didn't do right was not getting information on how to shut the milk off properly. Be careful about that. One can get clogged up, develop infections or other discharge that can be hard to clear-up.

Do you have a day of the week in general that works better for you, or are they all pretty much the same right now? Mon, Thurs and Fri are the best bets; I could be there say 10am-1:30 or 2pm, or any shorter period in between. Next week is looking a bit zany, but maybe the week after (that's Valentine's week) or the one after that? Or ... whenever. :)
