So, I've been trying to resist writing BSG fic. And it was annoying because I was working out this morning and came up with an idea- a gen fic where Gaeta and Helo went to high school together, but Helo was a few years older. And Helo was a bit of a MWPP-like jerk and shoved Felix into his locker a few times (because you know Gaeta's been in a locker more than once in his life). And then Helo went off to join up and basically got the crap kicked out of him by the military and grew up, although that wouldn't happen on-screen. And Felix went a few years later and went through tactical with flying colors, and got assigned to Galactica. And BAM! there was Helo, being all nice to the new guy because he doesn't even remember the specifics about the little geek he was shoving into his locker, because he wasn't doing it for personal reasons- just because he was a bit of a jerk when he was a kid. (And Gaeta's also grown about a foot and the like.) And so eventually they become friends, and the whole reason Helo recognizes Dr. Baltar on sight is because Felix NEVER shuts up about him, and then Sharon has to tell Felix that Helo didn't come back, and eventually after Helo makes it back he comes by Felix's lab and "finally" apologizes for shoving Gaeta in his locker, and they both laugh about it because it really isn't important any more and they have truly become friends.

It sounds kind of lame when I write it out, but I think it would be cool.

Anyway, I still like the idea, but have lots of reasons for not wanting to write it. But we began potty training today, and let me tell you, I have no desire to write. Ugh. When Toby peed in his pants for the third time in fifteen minutes... ugh.

I'll be curious to see how this goes, but I suspect it will kill all creative impulses this week. Although I should try to get something written for MRFH.

For you been there done thats: any tips or hints or things you found effective for potty training?

I had a lot of trouble getting my youngest Potty Trained. I remember asking all of my friends about it, because my first kid just did it...without any trouble. Evelyn took some creative bribery. We had mini marshmallows and she got a couple if she went in the potty. Also, I used the really thick cotton training pants (with plastic pants for daycare) because she could feel when she went, but they held a bit more than regular underwear. All I can say is...good luck. Eventually he will figure it out; it just always seems like that day will never get here and you are doomed to spend the rest of your life washing wet underpants.

P.S. I'm going to wonder about it forever unless I ask...where is you icon quote from?

Potty training tips: Have patience. Lots of it. You will wonder why you've been so eager to get the kid out of diapers when diapers are so much less stressful and hair-pulling-inducing. :P

MiniPlu grasped wet-training first, and Two grasped poop-training first. For both of them, poop-training was a matter of recognizing The Face (or other signs) that they were about to go, and whisking them to the toilet THAT MINUTE.

I've heard of a number of philosophies for wet-training - taking them every hour on the hour, sticker reward charts (or some other reward) for successful potty stops, Big Boy underwear bribes, letting the kid run around naked from the waist-down (outside or on non-carpeted areas, preferably) and let them notice when they Oops - that discomfort sometimes gets them to be more aware, earlier.

But, in the end, I'm not sure ANY of that honestly worked for us - it was just repetition, patience, and their brains just clicking - when they were ready. Oh, and switch to Pull-ups so even if he's "protected", it'll be much easier to take him to the toilet rather than using traditional diapers. They cost twice as much, but you'll just have to live with it. :P (Speaking of - how much does Toby weigh? We're not going to use most of Two's leftover pull-ups, and she liked the boy-styles so that's what we've got. I could send you a bunch to get started.)

Another awesome story that never was! :-( I'm going to start lighting candles for them.

Or maybe I'll just get your Muse drunk }:>

Besides sleep deprivation, potty training is the biggest thing that scares me about being a parent. One of the few upsides to being 30 (!) and still having no boyfriend....
