I should be writing my ficlets and review, but I had to snag this meme from [livejournal.com profile] such_heights.

1. List your top seven ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your favorite.
3. Name their fandom.
4. Supply photos for said people.

These aren't all "fandoms", per se. A couple of them are just books I love dearly. But it's more interesting if I don't just consider HP.

7. Charlie Pace/Claire Littleton from Lost

I miss Season 1 Lost sometimes. That's when I just adored Charlie and Claire, because it was so sweet. I didn't really like Charlie's stalker period, which is why this ship comes in at #7, but at least the show acknowledged how fucked up it was. I'm a sucker for redemption stories, though, and this pairing has it in spades. Especially Charlie's ending. ::sniffle::

6. Scarlett O'Hara/Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind

Do you want to know how much I like this pairing? I read Scarlett, and enjoyed it. True confession. I love Scarlett and Rhett, and I never got what she saw in Ashley over Rhett anyway. Seriously- who would go for Ashley over Rhett?

5. Dagny Taggart/Hank Rearden from Atlas Shrugged

No picture, because there's no movie and a cursory search didn't turn up much art.

Atlas Shrugged is my favorite book, and I have to admit, I always preferred Dagny with Rearden. Two reasons, one personal preference and one artistic. The artistic is that Rearden has a lot more screen time, and therefore we get to know him better. Galt is far more 2-D, the "perfect" man, whereas Rearden has more texture. The personal is I like tortured in my fictional relationships. Which brings us to...

4. Unrequited Felix Gaeta/Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica

I definitely tend to favor canon pairings, but this is the first of two pairings that isn't canon. (Can you guess the other one? Hahahahaha.) Although personally, I would not be surprised if it becomes canon, although preferably my way. See, my version is that Felix had a crush on Baltar from the beginning, and Baltar totally knew it. And he reveled in it, because Baltar loves to be loved. And Felix ended up being quite useful, especially since he would do a lot of the boring stuff (paperwork wise, people). Then on New Caprica, I like to believe they had a few drunken (or not so drunken) nights as lovers. (And I really like the following scene:

Gaius closed the door behind him, but it fell open a crack. Tired and sore, Felix began to ease himself out of the bed.

"You've got to be frakking kidding me," Zarak said, shuffling some papers.

"I knew you were Saggitaron," Gaius said. "I didn't take you for a fundamentalist."

"It has nothing to do with that," Zarek said. "Has it occurred to you that sleeping with your chief of staff might not be the best idea? That it will come crashing down on your head?"

"Oh, please," Gaius snorted. "You overestimate him." Felix froze, his sock halfway up his foot.

"I don't think so," Zarek said. "It's a bad idea, Gaius. What were you thinking?"

He heard that familiar shift into impatience, could see Gaius jerking into action. "What was I thinking? Do you know how much work there is in running a government, Tom? After meeting with the union representatives, organizing the transfer, approving the zoning regulations, and a host of other mind-numbingly boring activities, it was too much trouble to seek out some willing companion for the evening."

"You could have found a prostitute," Zarek pointed out.

"This was easier and cheaper. Oh, frak. I'm late. Do you have the briefing on-" their voices drifted away.

Felix was quite certain he was going to be sick.

See, that's how I think it should go. That kind of dynamic. And I could totally see BSG going there... but I think they've also set it up that it's perfectly plausible they won't. So many ways they could go- I can't even begin to predict.

ANYWAY. The rest of the story goes... And Gaeta fell harder, but told himself he could handle it. And then, of course, he began finding out just how different the real Baltar is from the one he loved- not just once the Cylons came, but before. (Because he seemed pretty disillusioned with Baltar before the Cylons hit.) And Baltar just never really thought about Felix's feelings, because he's Baltar and he doesn't think about other people's feelings for the most part. He just dismissed it. And at this point, between the personal and the professional, Felix hates Baltar enough that he'd be happy to see him dead. And Baltar? Baltar still doesn't love Felix or think he ever did, but I like to think in that sickbay scene he realized what horrendous personal damage he did to Gaeta, and wished he'd been more careful. However, I have no patience for Mr. Nice-Gaius who realizes Felix was his One True Love. His One True Love (after himself) is Caprica Six, damn it. But really himself.

Look. This ship would have a pretty boy (who's a scientist!) who's not allowed to have nice things. I love those guys.

3. Zoe/Wash from Firefly

Ahhh, role reversal done right. I like happily married couples (Molly and Arthur Weasley almost made the list, too), and Zoe and Wash stand out. Aside from him DYING in Serenity. Blech. I love the respect and the differences between them, and all the things you'd think would be the other way around but aren't (like Zoe really wants a child because she's brave and aware of how fleeting life is, and Wash is scared because he gets how fleeting life can be, too).

2. Remus Lupin/Sirius Black from Harry Potter.

See [livejournal.com profile] kasche for art.

My other non-canon pairing, and if you didn't guess this hi! Nice to meet you. What did I say about pretty boys not allowed to have nice things? This ship has TWO of them. The regret and the heartache and the forgiveness... is it any wonder why I love this ship?

1. Bill Adama/Laura Roslin from Battlestar Galactica

How much do I love these two? So much that they kicked Remus/Sirius out of the top spot. And not because I was disappointed with HP canon, but because Adama/Roslin ROCKS. For one, they're a mature couple. Their love is well developed over the show. There's an insane amount of chemistry between the actors and the conclusion was incredibly natural. They have problems, but they're not contrived. (One of my favorite scenes is in Dirty Hands when Adama tells Chief the tyllium guy is in the brig for "pissing off the President" and she just throws her hands up defensively in the background.) They have respect for each other, but they're not afraid to call each other on what they're doing wrong. They have fun together. (Another one of my favorite scenes is in Unfinished Business, when they're being talked at by Gaeta and looking bored out of their minds. He runs off and they pull out the joints they were hiding from him. Absolutely classic.) And the current resolution of "I love you," "About time" is right up there with "I know." ::melts::

You've probably noticed there are shows on here I love that I skipped. West Wing (OTP=CJ/Danny, with runner-up Jed/Abby), Heroes (no OTP- I don't want ships in that show), Buffy (see previous comment- the only ship I vaguely like and didn't end up hating was Willow/Tara, and even that just wasn't as interesting to me), etc. But hey- seven is seven.

The meme said you were supposed to tag seven people, but I don't feel like it. Do it if you want!
