So, we're going up the stairs, and Toby blurts out- clear as day, mind you- "Holy shit!"

Oops.

According to him, that's what Mater says, but I'm 99% sure it was Mommy.

So, I gave in and wrote BSG fic the other day: Through the Cracks. Mostly gen, with allusions to Baltar/Gaeta, and a five things type of fic, which is unusual for me. Now I'd better finish my review of Hamlet 2, which is proving difficult because I really didn't know what I thought of it and I'm too cheap to see it again.

I also had my first MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meeting today. I was a little surprised, because the girl who recruited me mentioned that it was somewhat religion based, and it was actually more than I thought. I wasn't angry- I'm religious myself and we haven't set foot in church for more than fellowship suppers since Trevor was born, except for his dedication. But it was really nice- drop the kids off in a child care program and breakfast, a speaker, and a craft and lots of adult chat. I had to go soothe Trevor for a while, but Toby had a blast, and when I picked him up he was full of talk about all the things he'd been doing. The next activity is a playgroup at Toby's favorite park next week, so we'll definitely go to that!

It's funny. I found myself almost a little defensive at MOPS. My first impression of it is that it's like a sorority, but more how a sorority is actually meant to be- women being friends and supporting each other and all that. I did notice every woman there, myself included, was wearing makeup. However, I can also appreciate the desire to dress up and look pretty, especially since your kids are going to be with someone else.

I do not consider myself a fashionable person. I live in t-shirts and jeans, although I also like skirts. The jeans I wear generally come from J.C. Penney's and are usually less than thirty bucks, if I can find them. Today, they were a little nicer, with flower details on the leg and butt, but I still just wore a t-shirt with them. The way I'm dressed in my icon photo is pretty much how I normally dress, except these days I always wear my hair back because Trevor grabs it. But sometimes, when I'm in a crowd like this, I'm really aware of how... not fashionably I dress.

I don't have any desire for designer labels. Frankly, I'm too cheap. Even when I try to spend money, I usually end up back at Penney's anyway. Not all the time- I like Ann Taylor and Macy's and whatever Lerner calls themselves now. The only reason I own anything by Coach is because it was a gift. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like I was at all being judged. I just know enough to notice what other people are wearing, and I felt rather self-conscious.

Oh well. I really should go type my Hamlet 2 review. Seeya!
