Livejournal stuff
Aug. 3rd, 2007 01:05 pmSo, LJ is at it again, I guess. You know what?
I kind of don't care.
It's not totally true- I do get the whole concept of free speech and all that. But I also understand that there are two sides to every story, and I really don't know enough about Six Apart/Livejournal to know what their staffing and communication issues are like. If the issue was more clear cut, I'd have a stronger stance. But sometimes I feel like fandom in general plays with fire with some of the pairings and stuff people get involved in. Not just the Harry Potter fandom- any fandom.
I do get that people being TOSsed didn't actually break the TOS, so I do understand the outrage. But I also don't think this would change anywhere- I think there are too many users and other business-like issues to immediately cry conspiracy. I just don't know enough about it from both sides, and because I really do disapprove of chan and incest, I really can't get myself worked up so much. My real theory actually mirrors
gehayi's, and that's that people hear "Harry Potter" and automatically think kids, despite the fact that people age and there are lots of adult characters in the books, too. And while the people who were TOSsed might not have broken the TOS, let's face it. There ARE people who break the TOS out there in the HP fandom.
Anyway, I'm not moving. I might not renew my paid account, but that has more to do with I suspect my fandom/computer involvement will be dropping with baby #2 than any moral issue at this point. This is naturally subject to change, but to be honest, I don't think it will unless LJ declares all-out war on fandom. Instead, have an art rec.
buttfacemakani's drawing of the Bellatrix-Molly duel. It's awesome.
