Inane Chatter
Apr. 12th, 2008 02:32 pmI got the day off yesterday. :) It was nice. I went to a retirement lunch for my old research leader, and then to the mall. I needed it.
Right now, I'm sitting on my hands in excitement over Remix. My fic is done and in, and I'm actually really, really proud of it. I'm dying to see what my remixee thinks of it- I really hope she likes it. I have so much more I want to say about it. Some of it is meta and thoughts on various characters that I used. However, I think if I started that, it would give away which fic I wrote. I also desperately want to rec the original, but again, it would make it glaringly obvious.
I'm also really curious to see what my remixer did. Remix is an interesting challenge because, although we all hope our remixee likes our work, they really don't have to. It's also an interesting challenge if you get me because I write freaking novels. Very few of my fics are under 1000 words. Even ignoring the mammoths like Deny Thy Father or Accidentally In Love (which is a WIP anyway), there are one shots like Crawling in the Dark (~30-40 pages), Though I Speak with the Tongues of Men and Angels (~15 pages), Mentors (~20 pages), and Replace the Fear (~20 pages, I think). And those tend to be the fics I'm more proud of and would love to see remixed. On the other hand, because I tend to be pretty detailed, I imagine they'd be harder to remix than the shorter ones. Both remixes that I've received have been of ficlets. Not that that's remotely a bad thing- it's just interesting.
I was wondering what I would do if I got me. One thing that would be interesting would be to expand drabbles that are in the related-drabble/related ficlet stories. There are some good stories in Azkaban Tango, like the Prewetts/DE twins fight, or Snape's Potions mentor in the Death Eaters, or Alastor Moody taking down a Death Eater. (I'm not very fond of the fic, but I like some of the stories.) There are some interesting and expandable stories in Taking Offense, which was the nine drabbles about different ways Mr. Lupin could have offended Greyback. (Amusingly, none of them are the AIL scenario.) And then there are the interconnected drabbles in Ten Reasons to Love Bikini Girls, which could easily be expanded. Even some of my other stuff... I rarely write true PWP, and there's always a story in them.
Now, if I had real guts, what I would really do is take Though I Speak With the Tongues of Men and Angels and take the same 10 events in Sirius's life and make his conclusion atheist instead of Christian. That would be an awesome remix. OF course, if I was really remixing me, I'd be very wary of doing something like that because I really would not want to offend the author. But still.
Regardless, I'm really excited to see what my remixer chose, because I'm sure it's nothing like what my musings are.
TOTALLY switching topics, I heard a song on the radio the other day that I really, really liked. However, I didn't catch the title and I don't remember the lyrics. It sounded like it was about a soldier on leave who had to back to Iraq and was exhausted and confused and just wanted to come home. Anyone have any idea what this was? It's in some rock genre.
