Why is this chapter kicking my ass?
I think it's because it has a lot to do with marital infidelity, to be honest. Also, now that Dee and Hoshi are friends, a lot of that conflict has gone from the fic. I've been continuing with it because this really ended up as Dee's story, and there's the whole Lee/Kara thing, which is big. Plus, there were a few other ends I wanted to wrap up. But there are no more bitchfights (at least, not malicious ones) from Dee and Hoshi.
Hmmm. I need a new icon. One with Dee, Hoshi, Gaeta, and Narcho. Hah. Good luck.
Also, The Passage has always given me a hard time for a lot of reasons. Wasn't the big thing in the miniseries that Cylons are MORE susceptible to radiation than humans, and that's how Adama knew Leoben was a Cylon? And that's how Gaius designed the Cylon detector? So, unless star cluster radiation is different from nuclear radiation (which it might be- I'm too lazy to look it up), why is Athena suddenly LESS susceptible to radiation than a human would be? Also, the whole shepherding the Fleet over plotline makes my head hurt when I try to work out the logistics. I don't quite get the finer details. I've glossed over most of it, but... Plus, there are other little things, like the fact Hoshi applauds when Tigh walks into the room and um, hi, Dee is first playing tourguide for civilians and is then back up in CIC, and I THINK it's Hoshi on communications, Dee on tactical, and Felix... almost playing XO? Third in command? I don't know. My current plan is this is Adama giving Felix a moment to be higher in the command while having Dee and Hoshi do the grunt work, but it's also hard to convey that.
And the algae planet. Really, there was NOTHING ELSE TO EAT on that planet? I mean, I've come up with explanations for why they didn't get anything else (they were a little short on time), but they couldn't send out a hunting party?
And infidelity. I HATE infidelity, even if I'm not writing the cheater.

I never knew that The Passage was such a mess. I can't remember that scene but it seems to me that Felix would always be acting CO when he's the highest ranking officer in the CIC, and when he's the second highest ranking, he'd be acting XO. If Felix is needed as XO, Dee would move up to tactical and Hoshi would move up to comm? It sounds reasonable enough to me. The mini has given me the impression that Felix would be in command of the CIC most of the time while Adama would walk around the ship, looking impressive. That's in times of peace, of course.
Re radiation: I've always assumed there are different kinds of radiation. But I don't know the next thing about radiation.

Huh, I never thought about the whole radiation thing before. Though also, the cylons are able to survive ok on post-nuclear Caprica. Guess they didn't think too hard on that one.
