Fic, fic, and more fic!

First: I posted fics recently:

Part 12 of A Lot to Live Up To, which went off into territory I've been dying to get into for CHAPTERS. (I've known that trial was going to take place as soon as I brought in Dr. Robert.) And Raptor Rides, which is the one where Tom Zarek babysits Toby Hera Agathon. I've also done two versions of the music meme: Various non-gen snippets from my universe, which is a mix of characters and situations, and one I wrote for twelvecolonies and is all Zarek-Gaeta friendship.

remixredux09 reveals are up, and it's all very exciting :) And now I can say that I wrote You Sexy Thing (Not-the-Angel Is a Centerfold Remix, a remix of bantha_fodder's Lean to the Side (Lee Adama: Colonial Pin-up), which is hysterical in its own right.

This was an interesting year for me for Remix, because it was the first year I could play outside the Harry Potter fandom. I mean, REALLY play. And because I haven't been in the BSG fandom that long, and I write Gaeta, who has a small, fairly close following, I haven't read a lot of very worthy authors. So that's always one fun thing about remix- I get to read new authors. I was also VERY aware that by putting down BSG as a fandom, I was almost certain to get someone who didn't write Gaeta, which I was kind of looking forward to. However, notice he managed to make it into the fic anyway.



How did he do that? Well, the first fic I read of bantha_fodder's was Twenty Random Facts about the Battlestar Galactica, and #3 is about Gaeta still sleeping with a stuffed elephant named George. And I fell in love with that. But I also fell in love with #5:

The guys and girls in the mess love their jobs. Sure, they hate dealing with the leftovers, and washing dishes and stuff, but the gossip is great. And at least they’re not janitors.

Because I write so much secondary character stuff, I've been getting interested in the whole idea of what's life like for the rest of the Fleet, and I was debating trying to take some of the 20 Random Facts and make them into a story.

But then, pretty much the day that the remix assignments came out, the Cosmo centerfold of Jamie Bamber naked and holding a towel came out.

Somewhere in there I got the idea of basically following the picture from creation to Lee's discovery of it. (It went further, but my beta, beatrice_otter, wisely pointed out it looked like I was telling two stories, and the first half was much stronger.) And that ended up being GREAT, because as soon as I realized that I wanted to do the creation and distribution of the magazine, I got to do the other side of the Fleet. And then from there, I just started taking in random facts and incorporating them. I managed to get #3 (Gaeta's elephant, which was admittedly my favorite, because I can TOTALLY see Starbuck doing that, and it captures the sort of "you annoy the hell out of me" vibe that I picture for Gaeta and Starbuck pre-Circle, when it becomes pure hate on both sides), #4 (Gaeta mentions bugging Tyrol about the crack in the oxygen converter- and that was a nice little bit of prophecy on bantha_fodder's part), #5 (the scene in the kitchen with Jaffee), #6 (one of the kitchen hands managed to convince some sucker to take the Starbuck/Apollo bet with her), #7 (Dee being bored of Billy was sort of insinuated in the Dee section- this might have also been another bit of good prophecy on bantha_fodder's part- I'm too lazy to check dates), #10 (Dee mentions she's broken this rule), #13 (at the very beginning, Bell wants to trade for stuff on the black market for his young son), #16 (the Sagittaron kids allude to that), and #17 (Starbuck flat-out says it). So I got 9/20.

There were a couple HUGE tells that this one was me, if you've read certain stories. For one, the whole thing with the Sagittaron kids- Alex and Andrew from I'm No Superman show up there. I still think they'd have an interesting story, incidentally. Also, in the article (and here's a link to a larger copy), there's talk of callsigns, and mention that Gaeta's callsign is Pinball. Plus the Starbuck and Gaeta hate each other thing- it's not unique to me, but it's something I really like.

I also had a lot of fun doing the picture at the end. I mean, how could I not, right? I think the fact I'm not used to doing this shows, but that's okay. I had fun doing it, and when you look at that picture... yeah :) It was a good picture.



Also, if you haven't read it, I really encourage you to check out Dragon Wars: D-War (Realistic Projection Remix) by amathela, which was a remix of my The Stories We Tell. It will most definitely give you a very good laugh!

Okay- enough chatter- I have Chapter 10 of Deliver Us from Evil to read! YAY! :)

I just signed up to twelvecolonies *fingers crossed to get in* I didn't even know this existed until yesterday. But I've been in whedonland for a week and was wondering if there was a BSG one.

What exactly is twelvecolonies? I went over there to check it out, but it's all so cloak-and-dagger f'locked that I'm not really sure what it is. Sadly, I doubt I'd have time to join anyway, but...the fact that it's *there* and I don't know what it is is getting to me. ;)
