Aug. 18th, 2009 08:59 pmOh yeah- I keep forgetting to mention- I got my first fanfic award ever. :)

I have to admit, I was surprised on a number of levels. Surprised this one was nominated, surprised it did so well, surprised it did better than He That Believeth In Me... Pleasantly surprised, on all counts mind you. The thing about this fic is a.) it's a remix, so all the original credit goes to
midnitemaraud_r, and here more than ever, since this one is REALLY plotty and I kept the plot identical and switched the POVs, and b.) I got my first anti-review (that I've found) with this fic. Not constructive criticism, but the first one where someone was reviewing stuff on their own journal and I saw the rating and it was 0/5 stars. I'm not at all upset at the reviewer, btw, so please don't take this as wank. They didn't like it, and one of the big things they were disappointed about was I did do a straight POV swap, without changing a thing about Teddy. ::shrug:: That's one of the things I liked best. Different people certainly have different tastes, but I admit seeing that kind of colored my opinion of my own fic.
Such are the ways of writing, I suppose.
So, thank you to whoever nominated it (and whoever nominated He That Believeth In Me!), and thank you to the Admins who voted for it :) And thank you again to
midnitemaraud_r, because believe me, without her this fic NEVER would have existed.
Okay. Now I REALLY need to work out.

Date: 2009-08-19 05:13 pm (UTC)I saw that "anti-rec" and I was tempted to comment, but that seemed like a futile gesture. *I* loved your remix, and so did a LOT of people, and that's more important in the end. (And really - look how many people hated/despised/loathed HBP and DH! :-P) We can't ever please everyone, and in the end, what matters is how we feel about our stories, because we're telling the stories we want to tell. Even when they're ostensibly for someone else, like in a fic exchange. That's why I write anyway.
Anyway, you added quite a number of scenes to your remix, and I will always especially love that scene where Remus and Cedric talk after Teddy leaves. ♥ I'm glad your remix was recognized for the excellence that it is. :-D

Date: 2009-08-19 05:20 pm (UTC)Congratulations on your well deserved award! One thing that's funny,
I was surprised that He That Believeth in Me wasn't awarded but honestly, the picks for Best Drama were head scratchers to me considering the nominees in the category. I got interested since I recognized quite a few nominated stories so I read at least parts of the others to size up the competition so to speak.

Date: 2009-08-19 06:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, the "anti-rec" didn't bother me at all on an intellectual level. It wasn't in any way a flame. She (I assume it was a she, anyway) just didn't care for the story, and there's nothing at all wrong with that. She presented it as opinion, there was no actual bashing, and she even gave her reasons as to why she didn't like the fic. I mean, heck, that's what I do all the time when I review movies (and I've despised some movies that other people LOVE, like Lost In Translation and Sideways). I just need to get my skin a little thicker. :)
Thanks so much! :) (And I must say again how much I loved the original. It remains one of my favorite HP stories of all time.)

Date: 2009-08-19 06:13 pm (UTC)I'm actually not shocked that HTBIM didn't place higher in the drama category, because the religion aspect CAN hit people strange. I have to admit, I haven't read all the stories that were in the Drama category- I might at some point.
Thanks again! :)
