Well, hubby's off again. He'll pretty much be gone for two weeks, which really sucks from a home perspective. But I suppose I should, y'know, get some writing done or something. Having him home made me really fall behind on my challenge fics. Which I'm not complaining about, but people who run the two challenges that have deadlines tomorrow might. I'm afraid my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon fic is going to be terribly late, and I've already gotten an extension on the Lost Years challenge. ::Sigh::

I also realized tonight that I will probably not see Brokeback Mountain until it's due out on DVD. Too bad- I was interested in seeing it. The story intrigues me, and I have a thing for the acting of Jake Gyllenhaal (whose name I butchered), and have ever since he played Homer in October Sky. (Interesting sidenote: did you know "October Sky" is an anagram for the title of the book the movie was based on, "Rocket Boys?" If you have never seen October Sky, you really must. Good Jake acting, phenomenal Chris Cooper acting (um, not that Damien had ANY basis here...), and the best pick-me-up science story ever.) But Brokeback Mountain is due out in December, and if we get to the movies at ALL in December, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe has extreme priority. (another sidenote: how cool is it that Liam Neeson is voicing Aslan? Best casting decision since getting Alan Rickman for Snape.)

I'm not complaining about our soon-to-be movie drought, mind you. Obviously, I'm excited about the baby. But there are reasons beyond that. For one, I can easily keep reviewing movies for Mutant Reviewers from Hell, especially since Justin actually prefers that we review stuff that's out on video instead of the newer stuff. The whole point of the site isn't necessarily to give you our thoughts on movies out now, but geared towards picking a movie to rent. We're also supposed to be focused on cult, but hey. How many true cult movies are there out there? But yeah, not going to the movies in the theater will probably be met by open arms with the Head Mutant, so no problems there.

But even more than that, as much as I complain about rising gas prices (which actually isn't much, because it really promotes the use of agriculturally based fuels like ethanol and biodiesel, which both have had the major stumbling block of being more expensive than petroleum-based fuels), I complain far, far more about the price of movies. It's just ridiculous- especially as they add more and more ads on. Around here, it costs $9.75 to go to the theater. The concession prices never bug me since I've rarely actually bought food to the theater (I'm not above sneaking in packets of M&M's that I get from the local Wawa), but the ticket prices are horrendous. Now, granted, we DO have an Entertainment book which is worth the money to us for the movie coupons alone, but still. The point is, how many movies out there are worth the price you pay to see them? The last one I saw in theaters that I truly liked was... okay, it was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But before that, it was Cinderella Man. My point is, there just aren't that many these days. There've been others I've felt were well worth the $5.75 we paid: Madagascar (which was worth it for the penguins alone) comes to mind. I honestly forget what we saw before Charlie, but boy, doesn't that say a lot?

Besides, Brokeback Mountain seems like one of those you don't need to see on the big screen. And it also seems like one I'd have a harder time dragging hubby to. So renting it might be best after all ;)

Should get my butt back to writing. ::sigh:: We'll see how much gets done tonight. That bed is calling pretty loudly!
