First of all, you guys are AWESOME. I love that I can ask my f-list "okay, aliens are going to take over the world", and you guys have world domination schemes worked out. How cool is that?

Lousy day for writing. I took the kids to a friends' (that was fun) and washed the windows (that was not). Didn't get much down time in there. And the Cylons are being difficult. Makes me wonder if Tom wouldn't appreciate my attention more.

Day 11. A Show That Disappointed You.

Sure, there have been others. But Heroes is the only show I fell in love with hard and then had to actually break up with. I LOVED the first season. It was so amazing. I didn't even hate the second season. But they just kept resetting and having no clue where they were going and changing their minds about who was dead and not giving new characters a chance (I loved the girl that could mimic movements that she saw)... And it would. not. let. Sylar. go.

I rarely break up with a show. I watched LOST through to the end. BSG only disappointed me badly in 4.5. I knew West Wing and Buffy got weaker in later seasons, but there's a difference between "weaker" and "I can't watch this anymore." Cancellations disappointed me. But Heroes... that was the big one. I don't even know where my House of M icon is anymore.

But for fun, here's an old article I wrote: Heroes vs. Lost Written in 2007 (so there are a few changes, like Sayid DEFINITELY wins and I forget a few of the others), but still fun.

Heroes turned out to be the MOST DISAPPOINTING. They had such a brilliant start, and so many fantastic characters, but... blah. It all fell apart. Boo.

I was never really hugely into "Heroes", but it definitely had its moments early on and it was sad to see it go so far downhill. I quit it too.

Hee- I once had a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] trovia about how Americans are pretty much trained to have world domination plans. ;)

Oh, Heroes. I agree with you- S1 was brilliant, S2 was pretty cool (I liked Micah's cousin, too!) and then... well. Villains happened. It was such a damn mess. And it wasn't even that they couldn't let Sylar go- it was that they made Sylar unkillable and then went, "Oh, shit, well... I guess now we need to give him another crisis... and make him MOAR unkillable! That's a good plan, right guys???" *sigh*

I KNOW! I wish the first season had sucked more in a way, because then I wouldn't be so disappointed. So much potential, so wasted. ::sobs::

I almost got fannish about it, and even read a few fics with Matt, Mohinder, and Molly. But then it just got... ::sigh:: IT hurt to break up, but it hurt even more to watch it.

I know. Sylar was just... I think the minute the show started cracking was when Sylar and Peter didn't kill each other. ::sigh::

Matt, Mohinder, and Molly
Oh man, I loved them! I really liked when fandom embraced them as this unconventional/subtexty family unit. And then the show just *dropped* it entirely.

I know! And it was such a fascinating group, with Matt and his dyslexia and psychic abilities and Mohinder with his brilliance and cluelessness about people. (And when Mohinder came in and found Matt sitting up over Molly and put the blanket over him...) It was a neat little family unit, and they just threw it away.

Stupid writers.

Oh man, Heroes. One of my roommates last year had season one on DVD and said it was so amazing I'd pee myself and forced me to watch it. Well, after forcing me to watch the first episode, it wasn't so much "forcing" as we'd reach the end of the episode and I'd go OMGWTF ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER NEXT EPISODE NEXT EPISODE until 3 AM and then we'd realize we had to go to bed because we had class the next morning.

So suffice to say I loved season one.

Then she went out and got season two. And I was so completely disinterested I honestly can't even remember what happened in that season, other than Hiro going through some bizarre time warp that completely lost me.

I have watched anything since season two. And it makes me so, so sad because season one was so astronomically fantastic that I really did almost pee myself.
