ohgod YES. I so completely agree with you. Don't care if they involve wands, guns, fists or spaceships. They SUCK. I'm always afraid that I'm going to completely forget about a stray arm or leg or something, or break some fundamental law of space/time.

Possibly borrow some of the boy's toys and stage it out? ;)

I find myself doing a lot choreography in my head and nodding and talking to myself when I have to write fight scenes. It makes people look at me funny.

heh, I love action! It's so visceral, and there are so many opportunities for description, so many little moments to capture amidst the chaos... I'd love to write a Warhammer 40,000 novel someday. :P This is half the reason why Voice of Reason was so much fun.

In retrospect, I kinda wish I'd put in at least one hand-to-hand human/Cylon throwdown. The scene where Starbuck fights Six in the museum was pretty much the last incident of human vs. skinjob fisticuffs in the series, and that's a shame!

I thought about that! Candyland in Space!!!! (Actually, what I really need is Toby's little Galactic Heroes Star Wars guys. Hee!) My problems tend to be more with "who's standing where and can you see the scene?" :P

I can tell you love writing it- you write it very well! I tend to have trouble with my setting- who's standing where, why aren't they fighting, what is so-and-so doing during all this... ::sigh::

I guess solve this by using third-person-limited -- almost every scene I write is written from one strict point-of-view or another, even if it's not the same POV throughout the story. You can get away with a lot that way, because the POV character isn't omniscient and won't necessarily see (or even care about) where other people are standing, etc. Writing a battle this way is more about describing what your character(s) do, see, and feel, which is a much more manageable task than capturing the action across the whole battlefield.

I personally find third-person-omniscient to be a little too big-picturey... like you said, it's easy to get tangled up in a mess of who-does-what and what-goes-where.

Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I'm pretty sure it was, unless you want to count Six hitting Barolay. :(

I still can't believe the show cut away from the battle for the CIC in the finale. Hey, guys, let's just skip the climactic battle -- we need space for that all-important vomit flashback! /eyeroll
