I am no longer a post-doc. ::Sniff:: My boss even kind of choked up when he gave me a kiss on the forehead goodbye.

But anyway. Part 1 (probably of 2 or 3) of that R/S --> R/T fic is posted... here!. Happiness Where I Can Find It. I'm going to finish writing ASAP, because it's all sketched out and it's not THAT much longer. But the challenge deadline hit. :P

Why should you go read it? A few reasons.

1.) It's part of the [livejournal.com profile] hp_synergy challenge. Which means it has ART!!!! And the art is by the fabulous and talented [livejournal.com profile] andreanna. Even if R/T burns your eyeballs, click and scroll down to the last picture to check out her wonderful drawing of Molly.

2.) If you like R/S, there is much R/S. There is no way I would write something (except for that Remus/Alphard AU) where Remus wasn't involved with Sirius.

3.) If you like R/T, there is much R/T. Hey- it's canon. This is also not one of the "surprise! It's not really R/T!" or bashing Tonks fics.

4.) The romance is very non-graphic- it's really Remus centric.

Anyway, must go for a week. Enjoy!

I really like this. The Remus/Tonks makes sense here, the memory of Sirius is pervasive, and the imagery vivid throughout. Remus's interaction with Christian is nicely done - he really is a born teacher. The illustrations fit the story perfectly.

That was really fucking good.

Write more or I will smash you.

Thanks. I'm becoming very fond of Christian, actually. (I actually love the Remus-gen aspects.) And aren't the illustrations perfect? I can boast about those cause I didn't do them. Heheh. :)

I don't like Tonks, and I never have, but she was adorable in this fanfiction. She is a button. She makes the R/T not as stupid. I have a terrible cute-girl-waking-up fetish though. That whole scene was constant “Awwwww”. Remus is the one constantly whining, not Tonks. (lolz at Remus saying the dementor would show him his life, and that he didn’t “have to be alone” the last two years. Oh, Remus, someone should hit you.) The R/S isn't that bad, since Sirius is dead, and I can imagine Remus-->Sirius. The only thing that really annoyed me was Remus looking up at Sirius-the-star. It seemed silly. Meh. But it only happened once, so I am cool. Cooly cool like nice ice.

I like werewolf culture in general, and I can't wait to see Fenrir. The other werewolves were alright. I liked how they weren't all one mass of people, but they were treated as individuals...some are more wolf than others. It might be because I am such a hardcore Fenrir supporter, but Christian annoys me. What a sellout. Yeah, magic looks cool, but it represents the opression of your people, Christian. Don't buy into the "magic is better" mentality of the WW. Hell, at 10 you should know this. And I adored how Remus Lupin had this little reputation thing going on. He isn't just a sellout, he is a notorious sellout, and there is something romantic in that.

Molly takes getting used to. Molly is not the universal mother, to me. She is the universal matriarch. If she thinks you have been going around breaking hearts, she will not be giving you seconds. She would deliberately give Remus obviously smaller portions than everyone else. Hell, did that to a 15 year old lil' girl based on Rita Skeeter's evidence, a grown man based on evidence from a friend? She would...like...not even give him a plate. Give him rusty nails to eat. Or some such. But again, it's probably because Molly and Remus are closer (or at least they appear to be in OotP) than Molly and Tonks. I actually shipped Remus/Molly back in the day (though I think HBP...sunk it. Pity.), so it could be interesting.

And I liked the reference to Percy, Percy is my all time favourite. But then, I am teh idiot.

And that is an amazing, amazing fic. That's enough reason to read it right there.

Enjoy your week with the family!

I love this fic. I love most that there is no angsty internal about gender identity, because that's what I've been running into since HBP, and it never works. Remus has had a long time to suss out exactly what who he sleeps with has to do with who he is, but very little time to grieve -- you make this grief central to his actions, and it feels right. I was so thrilled to finally find that in a fic.

I also love the inclusion of the the duck:-) I've been reading and loving Accidentally in Love for a while, and that fight was one of my favorite parts. I've friended you -- I hope you don't mind, but you write beautifully and you are a Sorkin fan and these two combined to make friending inevitable. I'm not very much in fandom at the moment, so I certainly don't expect reciprocity, as my LJ is more boring than a very boring thing, but I wanted to drop in and say "hi, you rock" before grad school eats my brain again.

Regards,
CJ

It was good, and I thank you for that

The fact that Tonks saw what she want to see, but you can't blame her because well... Lupin wasn't exactly saying no, you know what I mean? I liked the sex off the page, it's a nice thing to do, the unsaid here is much stronger than the said.

However, I know I'm going to sound like a shit, since everyone has praised the work to the skies, but I thought the narrative was uneven, and I can't place my finger on why. Probably because it's a first part of two or three? In that light, I shouldn't probably say anything until it is done.

You have Molly down pat here, Tonks speaking to her since June?! Doesn't she have her own Mom? and Molly, doesn't she have her own business to be looking into? Auugh.

Liked the dynamics of the werewolf society, and the scenes with Christian. Liked the fact that the fic feels adult, with complicated choices and actions (sex and emotional tangles) and feelings abound.

Thanks :)

I'm just responding to this one REALLY quick because it's got the constructive aspect. First off, don't feel like a shit, because even though people praise my work I know it's not perfect. I actually agree with you. I'm thinking- I'm hoping- it IS because it's a part rather than a whole. But if you happen to actually put your finger on it, please let me know!

And yeah, I wondered that about Molly and Tonks. :) But it's canon she's been talking to Molly since two weeks after Sirius's death (my months and timelines tend to be JKR-ish ;) ). My thought is that there's just some things you can't talk to your mother about, and sex is at the top of the list!

Must dash. Thanks!

The art was beatuiful, and I've no doubt the story is as well. I'm not gonna lie: I am very hesitant to read any R/T, even well-written R/T, especially by established R/S writers. It's totally my closed-mindedness, and I know I'm missing a lot of excellent stuff, but I'm afraid that's how it is for now.

Best wishes on leaving. The date is soon, eh? Do you have a pool going for when it'll happen? I guess see you next week!

Argh! You made me cry during the entire thing! *points accusingly*
Just the first little bit is heart-breaking. Remus talking to Sirius-the-star was just...Dunno, I just cried my eyes out.
And I loved the fic! This isn't right! I was supposed to never, ever like a R/T fic. This is all your fault! *points again*
I love little Christian. xD And Remus teaching him. And Remus telling Tonks about the first fight he and the Marauders had-love the reference to AIL. And I also loved your Bill very much xD

Thanks.

The whole Sirius-the-star (and actually, he was technically looking at Venus ;) ) thing IS a bit corny. I know it. It's just one of those things I don't budge on, because it's personal. So it has a tendency to make it into any story where a character is grieving. One day I'll grow up and it won't anymore. I hope, because it's a total cliche in my writing!

I'm actually really looking forward to writing Fenrir. I'm hoping I can keep him from being a simple snarling monster. (He can't be, if he chose de Broglie for his second!) And I can promise that there will be NO Fenrir/Remus sexual interaction. Just yuck.

The funny thing about Christian is that he isn't the main OC that I'm having a ton of fun with. I like him, but he's the hook to the real meat.... ;)

The Molly-Hermione reaction vs. Molly-Remus isn't something I thought about, but you're right. It's interesting that Molly has that double standard. I also wonder if it might not be because it's easier for her to be nasty to Hermione from far away, and with Remus right there in the house starving it's much harder? Or that she thinks that Remus is being stupid as opposed to malicious? (Which, in this version, he is.)

Actually, I really like Percy in ways, too, although he's a difficult character for me to deal with these days. I did a gen piece pre-HBP with the Weasleys responding to Percy's desertation on his birthday called 'Come Talk to Me.' (It's in my memories if you want to read it. All romance is downplayed, except I had assumed before I read HBP that the happy reason that Harry would be leaving the Dursleys for was the Bill/Fleur wedding, so they're on their own and about to get married in it.)

Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks! I've been having fun writing it. Remus is totally running away with it.

And thanks on the second, too. Just a few more days until the wedding... :)

Thanks! TOTALLY understand about grad school- I finished about 3 years ago and my brain is still recovering.

I'm glad you enjoyed it- and I'm really glad about the whole bit about gender identity. I totally agree with you. Remus is 37 at this point. I can see him having more conflicts about the things he mentions in canon- his age, his economic status, and his lycanthropy- or the fact that Tonks is related to Sirius or that he's moving on too quick or whatever- than the fact she's a woman. If he'd been with Sirius all that time, maybe. But there's 12 years without Sirius for him to figure it out!

Why do people think they're missing out by not reading a pairing they don't like? :) If you aren't going to enjoy it, it won't matter how well the fic is written. Believe me- I'm not offended. I rarely, rarely read R/T because I don't like how most people seem to talk about it. I don't really expect this one to get read tons! :)

And yeah- the date's coming up! November 25th. I left so early though because my contract was up- September 30th is the end of the government fiscal year. And we do seem to have a pool. My mom says November 15 or 16, because that's when she MUST be at school. I say November 24th right at 7 or 8 PM, just in time for the doctor to miss Thanksgiving dinner. My old neighbor says November 30th, because that's his birthday. And Howard says December 3, because that's almost a week after. He says I can't do anything else on time, so why should I deliver a baby on time? December 3 is probably right before they'd induce me. So we shall see!

Thanks :) Glad you enjoyed it, as perverse as it is! I think part of the reason R/S-ers can like this is it ALMOST qualifies as Remus-gen. The second part barely mentions Tonks so far!

I'm glad you enjoyed Bill, too. One of the things I thought Remus desperately needed in HBP was a FRIEND. Not a girlfriend, but just someone who could be a total platonic friend to him, and put his interests and feelings first. And Bill was a logical guess (and conveniently unconscious when everyone was pressuring Remus ;) )

eep! Good luck. My bro was November twentieth; he's always liked that day. You know what's nine months before mid november?? *wink* *wink* I think that's why so many people have birthdays then....

And that you wrote it, which is enough reason to read anything.
Someone needed to just poke all the people pressuring Remus in that scene. Like, poke them hard. With sharp objects. I completely agree about Remus needing a friend. And Bill is absolutely cool and fits the role perfectly. :3

Heh. Not us! Totally planned, and actually, we didn't think it WOULD happen. More the thing was we were ready, and we couldn't start until we'd be sure I wouldn't be 9 months pregnant for my sister's wedding. Howard travels so much we thought it would take a while. Oops.

I'm a mid-November, too, but I was due in October. :) (Three weeks late. My mom is SO ticked they'll induce me after 7-10 days! She wants revenge!) But I think I hit my Dad's birthday. Hehehe.
