Nov. 25th, 2005 04:11 pmI realize I still haven't responded to a lot of comments (bad Lissa), but between the stupid notification system being down and me being kind of grumpy and all, I haven't gotten around to it. But I DO want to say thanks to everyone for being so supportive.
I'm technically due today. Which probably means I have lower odds of delivering today than any other day around it. :P
A few little random comments:
1.) My Goblet of Fire review is posted. It's probably not one of my better reviews and it isn't as entertaining as what I posted here, but hey- I watch my slashy comments on the MRFH site. Recently, I've been doing better on my more serious reviews. I love my review for Jarhead and the other night we watched American History X, which I had a lot to say about.
2.) If you are looking for a fic, either at FAP or on line:
-It really helps if you actually give information about the plot,
-Just putting "HELP!" or "Lost fic" or "Looking for..." in the subject line does not compel people to click and see what you are looking for, and
-If you're after "good" fics, I'm much more believing of that if your post shows some basic grasp of grammar and spelling. Really.
3.) Believe it or not, I have still been working on writing, and can I just say I'm falling in love with Regulus? WHY is there so much sexual fic about the boy (especially incest) when there are so many more interesting things to do with him? I mean, come on. Moral conflict, smart as a whip, double agent, guts, "Dear Voldie, fuck you, love Reg"... the boy is WASTED in a sex-only role.
4.) I have a plot bunny that I can't write, at least not right now. But it would be interesting. What would be the implications of aging and gradually going senile in the wizarding world? It's hard enough to take away the things some of our seniors used to be able to do, like driving, or to watch them slowly slip into Alzheimers. Could you imagine having to take away your grandmother's wand because she's a threat to herself and those around her because she can't cope with reality anymore? Someone needs to write this at some point. Actually, I'd love to do it myself, because you know this is a plot begging for some minor characters who don't get much action, like maybe Arthur Weasley having to cope with doing this for his mother or something.
Ah well. Back to my private grumpiness. Hope everyone had a great Turkey Day, and hope my f-list feels better! (Lots of sickies!)

Date: 2005-11-25 09:29 pm (UTC)3. Word, dude. My ever-lengthening, increasingly complicated, will-definitely-be-finished-someday-I-promise Regulus AU is totally gen, because there's just way too much other really great stuff to put in a story about that boy.
4. That would be interesting. I really like your "family issues" fics (that's a lame term for them, but I think you know what I mean), and I'd love to see how you dealt with that one.

Date: 2005-11-25 09:47 pm (UTC)And I know you don't like incest. But I do, and Blackcest is just lovely. :P

Date: 2005-11-25 11:05 pm (UTC)Because fandom is awash with sex-obsessed, porn-addled ravening perverts? (I'm talking about other people of course, not me, oh no, no, no. At least a quarter of my Regulus fics have no mention of Reggie having any sexual interest in
his brother, omganyone.) Plus fandom thinks all the Blacks are a bunch of sexual dynamos with more perversions than you can shake a stick at--it's all the inbreeding that does it. And being so pretty. It really helps if you actually give information about the plot
Hee, did you see that someone posted a fic search on
What would be the implications of aging and gradually going senile in the wizarding world?
Oddly enough, that will be a subplot in a Top Secret project I'm working on. I'm really looking forward to it--wonderfully angsty in a wholly new way. Yay for suffering! (I crucio because I care, y'know.)
Ah for the 4th point
Date: 2005-11-25 11:42 pm (UTC)Yeah, I hear you about Reg, I really do. It's just that he got real popular through the smut writers of incest pre HBP and they haven't reliquished their hold on his character. Really.
I know that
I want to watch Jarhead but we won't be getting that here in the UK until Jan 06 -same time as Brokeback Mountain.
I hope Toby decides to make an entrance shortly. Will they induce labour or something?

Also, feel good, consider cumin and accupressure and get as much sleep as you can.

Date: 2005-11-26 06:45 pm (UTC)Looking forward to your Regulus AU. I've discovered something about my Regulus... he died a ::gasp:: VIRGIN! I mean, the kid was in his teens, and my poor Regulus is so clueless when it comes to girls... ah well. He is the first one I've been able to make read Ayn Rand though :) (Only because there was a spot where it was amusing to have him read We the Living.)
I said I won't write it, but the grandmother one isn't leaving me alone. And Arthur really needs more fandom love, because he's such a great guy. We'll see what happens with it!

Date: 2005-11-26 06:47 pm (UTC)Ooooh. I might actually write it with what I'm up to, but I look forward to the Top Secret project!
Re: Ah for the 4th point
Date: 2005-11-26 06:49 pm (UTC)They said they'll induce if I go 7-10 days beyond my due date. I have an appointment on Monday, and Howard's betting that they'll induce on Thursday (so I'm definitely done with the birthing process by the weekend). We'll see if he's right!
Re: 2.)
Date: 2005-11-26 06:51 pm (UTC)Every now and then I'll click on a "lost fic" or "help" link, but if I knew what they were looking for from the subject line I'd be more likely to click. ::Sigh::

Date: 2005-11-26 06:52 pm (UTC)And yeah... Regulus is just... he just turned into so much fun with one note. (I love that icon, btw.)

Date: 2005-11-26 06:53 pm (UTC)And thanks- I hope so too! My mother is torn between being impatient and laughing her butt off at me- I was three weeks late, so she's ready for revenge!

Date: 2005-11-26 06:54 pm (UTC)Seriously. That would be worth reading.

Date: 2005-11-26 06:55 pm (UTC)I didn't get into Reg until HBP, but yeah. He's so much more fun than people let him be. Especially my version, who is utterly clueless when it comes to common sense :) Hmmm. I need a Regulus icon, at this rate!
