It does feel good to have my [livejournal.com profile] shackingup_sesa fic off my plate. I feel much more relaxed. Now to finish other projects. Next up, The Year in Review for MRFH (which I'm cheating and using part of a post I wrote here).

Speaking of MRFH, we are SciFi.com's site of the week this week! They gave us a really cool review and several paragraphs of write-up, and I guess we've got a nice huge spike in traffic today. I need to get some more reviews in there as well. I only have one left in the queue (for American History X). I did get the absolute nicest feedback on my Jarhead review though, from a guy who served in the Gulf War. I don't get fanmail often, but this one really just stuck with me.

I have to admit, I really like writing for MRFH (obviously). Not only do I like the people I write with (and no, I'm not just saying that because at least two of them are on my f-list), but it's always fun to spout off about movies. It's funny though- I'd say of all my reviews, I only really like about a third of them.

Because I'm doing the meme for fics, I thought I'd also do it for reviews as well. So...

The Reviews

Total number of reviews written since 1 January 2005: I'm not sure, to be honest. But a minimum of 25.

Favorites of the Batch: Heh. I really liked my Jarhead review, and I had a lot of fun with my review for The Day After Tomorrow. However, neither of them beat my other two favorites: my review for Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events (which I may have written last year or this year- I don't remember) or my review for The Grinch, which I wrote back in 2003 and did entirely in rhyme.

Most Underappreciated by the Universe: I'm not sure there really was one. The ones that went without comment probably deserved to.

Most Fun to Write: If the Lemony Snicket one was this year, that would be it. Otherwise, my Mutant Viewing of Fellowship of the Ring, once I deciphered my comments. (Although I had a lot of fun venting about being forced to watch Open Water as well.)

Hardest Review to Do: Quills, no question, because it's hard to make up my mind about what I think about that movie.

Biggest Disappointment: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eight Dimension. For a movie with so much to mock, I really kind of fell flat.

Biggest Surprise: Weird Al Appreciation Day. One of my spur of the moment ideas that came out well. Either that, or that I finally finished the review for Ghost Dog, Way of the Samurai.

Most Telling Review: Dead Poets Society, for the bits about my Dad. Easily.

The Fics

Total number of fics written since 1 January 2005: Um, not counting comment fics, between 16 and 20?

Favourites of the Batch: I was really happy with Part 7 of Accidentally In Love, particularly the scene where James and Sirius have their big blowout when James finds out about the R/S relationship. I was also REALLY happy with the ending, with Damien, Remus, and Sirius at the graveside. And the last line. Hehehehe. But for one shots, my favorite has got to be Come Talk to Me, the Percy gen-fic.

Best of the Batch: Probably Come Talk to Me again. It's one I wrote from my heart, which is why I'm so fond of it. The other one I really, really like is The Old Canvas Bag, which isn't a great fanfic but I'm really happy with as a story, if that makes sense. Unfortunately, I think it's probably harder to understand if you haven't read AIL.

Most Underappreciated by the Universe: A Boy Thing. I need to cross-post it more, I think, but I really liked that one and am surprised it didn't get more responses from people who hated the Tonks-Merope-losing powers thing. James losing his powers was FUN.

Most Fun to Write: A Boy Thing and 35 Years of Virginity and Counting. When I pull off a comedy fic, I've almost always had fun. And although I think it's WAY too expository, I enjoyed writing Replace the Fear just because it's one of those fics where I turn fandom cliches upside down, and how can you not love doing that?

Sexiest Fic: Giving Thanks, I suppose. My PWPs are generally kind of "eh" to me.

"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic: The clown fic I wrote in [livejournal.com profile] theregoesyamum's journal.

Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Happiness Where I Can Find It (yes, I'm aware only part 1 is posted), because it makes me actually enjoy the Tonks/Remus romance. Also, Accidentally In Love 10 and 11 have much Regulus action- although admittedly it was HBP that changed my perception of Regulus, not my own writing.

Hardest fic to do: Part 10 of Accidentally In Love. Why I am having a block on it is beyond me, but I really am.

Biggest disappointment: My Lost Years story, which I still am working on. It's SUCH a good idea, and I can't make it work. It's driving me insane.

Biggest surprise: The reaction to The Fallacy of Loneliness. I liked the fic all right and I thought it was okay, but it got a much more positive reaction than I was expecting.

Most telling fic: A bunch of them. Come Talk to Me, because I wrote it in response to my feelings about my own brother, who's pulling a Percy. Parts of Accidentally In Love tend to be lifted from life, but I couldn't tell you which ones. Except Caradoc Dearborn. I remember telling a work friend about how I'd created this character and suddenly realizing that he was almost exactly one of my bosses. A Boy Thing was a great time since Remus got to be my voice on the whole "loss of powers due to love", and Sirius got to be the voice of rational people who don't agree with me on the sexist part but still think the loss of powers thing is kind of cheesy. (Because it is.) The Fallacy of Loneliness was written when I was very depressed, and Sirius's perspective is largely my thoughts at the time. The Old Canvas Bag sums up how I feel about martial arts. Cooking Lessons was fun because it exposed a part of me that doesn't get a ton of exposure, but I'm quite proud of, and that's my love of cooking.

Maybe because it felt like it came straight from the heart? I loved this fic the minute I laid eyes on it.

Squee! So, I read a bunch of fics mentioned here, and the Weird Al review. Joy. Al is love! Nice to read your review and be reminded of all the Weird goodness!
and, OMG, I don't know if he's done a video, but I think Spiderman (to the tune of Billy Joel's Pianoman) ranks up there with "the saga begins". Classic, catchy song; popular fun movie. I wasn't a *huge* fan of the Spiderman movie, but the song is SO good, and omg with the catchy, perfect lyrics.

Oh, and for the record: You are SO not old! You're about 5 months younger than my boyfriend, and he's only 2.5 years older than me! So, rejoice, for every year you live is another year above ground. As his uncle said, "beats the alternative". ;P
*offers hugs*
