Baby and a Meme
Feb. 17th, 2006 07:27 amHeee. Toby turned over for the first time yesterday! Unfortunately, I missed it. I put him in his crib so I could take a shower, and when I came out, there he was on his tummy. In fact, it sort of freaked me out because when I came in, all that registered was something looked different.

blackmoonruby,
For a lot of my fics, this is kind of a boring question. They're very much "Do what the title says." But I'll try, because there's a few I want to talk about.
Deny Thy Father- I think this one is pretty self-explanitory. Sirius runs away from home, and the entire story is about his split with his family. The only thing about it is that I decided on the title VERY early on, and it did actually dictate which parent I focused more on.
Mentors- A one word title that summed up my theme (and is still one of my all-time favorite fics that I've written.) The idea was that not only was Alphard a mentor to Remus, but vice versa, and the dynamic was very fluid.
Accidentally In Love- Like my LJ name, I really regret this title. I don't like my LJ name because I have since discovered that the surest way to get yourself labled as a teenybopper is to have a character's name in your LJ name. Oops. (Although it's far more a tribute to my premature grey hairs than Lupin's!) But Accidentally in Love just brings the song title to mind too much, and it's such a bouncy, happy song. Which was fine for the first three chapters of this fic. The fic is encompassing so much more- I mean, there's chapters which could be called gen in a lot of ways. Plus it's very dark. But the idea of Sirius and Remus never meaning to fall in love is one I really like. I firmly believe they didn't really understand what they had the first time around, which was why they made such a mess of it. And that's really the crux of the story- how two people that did love each other could come to the end that they did. (The 1981 version of the end.)
Ten Galleons- Not really hard to figure out. It's the price that Sirius charges.
Come Talk to Me- In a way, this is obvious. It's (EW!) a songfic around Peter Gabriel's "Come Talk to Me." But I liked the song because one of JKR's themes (and one which I LOVE) is communication. And when I saw Peter Gabriel peform it in concert, he did it with his daughter. It totally changed the dynamic of the song for me, and made it about family. Needless to say, it was perfect for a Percy fic.
Replace the Fear- I think this is an Indigo Girls song that I stole the title from, where Micheal Stipe sings along. (I'm not sure because the version I'm familiar with is an a capella version done by... Off the Beat at U Penn, I think? I don't remember.) But the base of that story is about Sirius holding back from a relationship he wants because he's afraid- afraid of messing it up and (although he doesn't say it) afraid of being hurt himself.
Accio Bananas!- Does it really need an explanation? I just think this was my best title.
A Boy Thing- I picked that because the point of that fic was to hilight what I was really doing, and that was catharsis. I've said I'll shut up about the sexism aspect of the "losing powers because of unrequited love" thing if we see a male lose his powers. I'm not sure if JKR will write it, so I wrote it myself. Besides, it was really fun to set that problem among MWPP, because their way of being supportive would be to heckle James mercilessly.
A Little Respect- This one didn't come out quite how I had in mind, but I liked it anyway. The idea I had- and again, this fic is "see title for theme" was that Theodore wasn't looking to earn Blaise's friendship, but that Blaise was supposed to be bullying him and Theodore just wanted to be left alone. And yes, the title came to me because the song got stuck in my head. (It's also spawned a spin-off called "Band of Brothers", which is a Nott-Flitwick-Bryce WWII story that I will finish one of these days. Hopefully for the
omniocular challenge.)
Chasing Dragons- Duh. I wonder where I got the title. But the reason I commented on it is I remember this one Pern fic at Lakesedge called Chasing the Dragon, which was an entirely different subject altogether (drug use). I just find the variation in topics amusing.
Nothing else really has that interesting of a title. I don't think I suck at titles all that much, I just think my titles tend to be straightforward and don't really leave you guessing much as to the context of the fics, with a few exceptions. (I think Accidentally In Love is deceptive, and I know several people have clicked on Accio Bananas! just because they're intrigued by the title. Heh. I wonder how many of them have regretted it.)
