Random stuff
Mar. 22nd, 2006 08:01 amHehe- Correspondence Course has been updated, and it just keeps getting better and better. I nearly choked several times. If you haven't been reading this, you really should, because it is funny, funny stuff.
Life in Mommy-world is actually sailing along for a change. Although I am now baffled as to why anyone says the first year of marriage is the hardest. That was cake. Having kids- now that's been more difficult. Not in a bad way, mind you. I just find that because we're both tired all the time, it can be harder to keep things in perspective. But at the same time, there's more of a feeling that we're a "team" instead of a "you and me." Perspective is my big problem though- I'm very good at blowing things out of perspective. I often have an "all or nothing" approach to relationships (reason #105 why I can write Sirius), and I have a tendency to blow everything up into a bigger event than it needs to be. Which makes everything sound gloomy and dim (or maybe it doesn't, given what I just said my two big problems are), but it's really not. Things are very good.
And poor Toby is definitely teething. I have learned my hand must taste really good, because that's his favorite chew-toy.
So I'm at the part where Regulus and Remus are going after Voldemort's Horcrux. I'm actually finding it hard to write, because I thought the Cave was JKR's strongest writing by far in Book 6. That's not a slam to Book 6, incidentally. It's just that The Cave ranks up there with Voldemort coming back and the Shrieking Shack scene for me. JKR does brilliantly with the suspense thing. But Remus and Regulus need to essentially follow the same path as Dumbledore and Harry did to get to the Horcrux, so it's already been written. I mean, at least I have the advantage of being able to say that Regulus was able to figure all this out ahead of time. (How is beyond me, but hey. Magic! Or maybe Voldemort made a treasure map or something. I mean, how did a kid figure it out when it took Dumbledore so long?) But writing that same scene with a new twist is difficult. I think I'm going to focus on two events, but they're also the two big events JKR focused on- the drinking of the potion and the appearance of the Inferni. Unfortunately, both of those are essential events. I can't get around them. Well, I could get around the Inferni. But I don't want to, because I have An Idea that I can't let go of. I think the whole Horcrux getting portion is going to be shorter than I intended, and I'll focus on the aftermath.
Speaking of which, I should go get my shower so I can do just that.
