Self-Indulgent Babbling
Apr. 12th, 2006 11:55 pmSo for some reason I was thinking about the men of Firefly, and trying to figure out which one I'd actually be interested in in a purely fictional, unmarried-me universe. You'd sort of think Mal, because he's extremely good-looking, charismatic, funny, and the captain, but no. Don't get me wrong- I love Mal as a character, and he largely made the series for me. But I have the feeling he wouldn't like me much. (Plus, I'd have to fight
musesfool for him.) Jayne is obviously out of the question, and I was thinking Wash (but Zoe scares me even more than
musesfool) when it hit me duh- I'm a total Simon girl. Why the hell was this not clear from the beginning?
Seriously. There are two things I really looked for in a man, and really appeal to me. Sure, looks and courage and all that are nice, but they aren't it. The two things that really get me are a devotion to family and intelligence. No, not just intelligence. I like my men brilliant. Incredibly brilliant. And yes, I like them to know it and flaunt it and damn it, I like them smarter than me. The two- no, the three- best relationships I ever had (one obviously being my husband) were all with men who were incredibly, disgustingly, wonderfully smart. And all three of them knew it and were (are) yes, a little stuck up about it.
God, I love that.
Now, granted, they all have their moments of doubt, I'm sure. Two of the three went to grad school and the third was in the military, and I'm not sure which is the more degrading experience. But I guess this explains why I never found Simon Tam all that pompous or obnoxious.
I have no idea what relevance to your life this little entry could possibly have, but I just felt like saying it. Intelligence is easily the sexiest trait in a man. (Of course, it has to be combined with other things, but that's not my point.) Can you tell my husband is out of town?
And it would be nice if these three intelligent boys would get their asses out of this bar so I can finish this chapter of AIL. I am so publishing the rest of this in shorter chapters. And for some bizarre reason Sirius/Kingsley is coming along. Someone explain this to me, please.
