After prompting by [livejournal.com profile] krislaughs, I watched Supersize Me. It is not often that a movie changes your life, but I have promptly reached several important conclusions:

1.) I'm not eating at McDonald's. Period. Not because I don't like their food, but because what they had to say about kids.

2.) Toby will not eat at McDonald's for a long, long time. Like, until he's a teenager. If we go out for fast food, we will go someplace else.

3.) Toby is not going to watch much television at all, and what he does watch will be on PBS or DVD, where there are no commercials.

The long and the short, what this really drove home for me wasn't so much the effect that McDonald's (and fast food and assorted other things) can have on me, but on my son. The effects on me weren't a surprise. The effects on kids... wow.

So yeah. MRFH review to follow, because this is a biggie.

We had ethical objections to McDonalds for many years before "Supersize me!" came out. My (9 yo) daughter's only been there twice for birthday parties; my (4 yo) son's never been there. (In fact, I get a little twinge of pride when my daughter refuses to accept McDonalds coupons and such. Such a good girl.)

Will you link to the review when it's up? Love to read it.

yeah, I've been veggie my whole life, so not much reason to eat at Mc D's, but after that movie, waaaay more reason to avoid it and teach one's friends and kids to watch for peer pressure from a corporation.

good for you!

YaY You saw it!! Good times, eh? It's scary what a taste we develop for the 'bad' foods. I think it's totally worth it to be careful of Toby's palatte, even if that means you spend more time in the kitchen.
