Meme and whatever
Jul. 29th, 2006 04:09 pmI can't post any fic yet (because so little is written), but the
Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.
Nope. My mom loved the name Melissa and made naming their firstborn daughter Melissa a condition of marrying my father. (Like she really would have said no.) But nope.
Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?
Well, Toby, obviously. For the whole two people who don't know, hubby and I are big West Wing freaks, and came across the name there. We didn't name Toby after the character, but we wanted something unusual without being wierd, and it fit. Amusingly, Toby's middle name is Joshua. That one has nothing to do with the Josh on the show, but simply we LOVE the name, but so does everyone else.
I have other names I like for kids, but I have since learned that hubby and I don't always agree on nomenclature, so I haven't gone and picked any other names for kid #2 (when we get to that point) yet. Personally, I think this is very smart of me :)
The one thing we've both agreed on is that we don't want to use a family name. We don't like most of our family names, and this way also everyone is offended equally.
If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?
Sean Michael. And if my sister had been a boy, SHE would have been Sean Michael. And my brother was supposed to be, but right before they had him (I think my mom was in labor), she burst into tears and said she didn't want to name him Sean. My brother is the only one of us named after people- his names are our grandfathers' middle names.
If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?
I'm old enough that I can't really imagine changing my legal name, but I have actually changed my nickname. My parents always called me Missy. I HATE the name Missy. It's very young, and it sounds like a cheereleader. When I went off to college, I changed it to Lissa. (Everyone from home still calls me Missy though.)
Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?
Lisa and Alisa are common. Lisa especially now that my brother in law is dating a girl named Lisa. (My poor inlaws!) I love it when people misspell my name as Lyssa. (I might have put the y in there myself, but really. That's just too Mary Sue. However, I rarely correct people when they misspell my name that way.) And for some reason people think Melissa is spelled Mellisa or Melisa a lot of times. :P
