A little question on Queen for anyone who might know....

I like Queen, yes. I actually like Queen a lot. But I've never been much of an album buyer, and so most of what I know of their stuff I've heard on the radio.

I'm working on a scene (a happy scene, so you know you want to answer this!) for Accidentally In Love that involves Queen. But I have a question:

Did Queen release any ballads before 1980? The only songs of theirs I know that could even be considered "slow" are "We Are the Champions" and "Who Wants to Live Forever?". They ain't exactly a love song band. But it would be really, really good if they did.

So anyone know any Queen ballads that came out before 1980?

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Love of my life from the album A night at the opera, which came out in 1975. But there must be more, I'm sure.

Is it slow? I'm looking for something people can slow-dance to....

Yes, it's quite slow, definitely slow enough to dance to. Although you said in response to a comment below that the scene's supposed to be funny, so I'm not sure if it's suitable for that.

Lyrics are here (http://www.lyrics007.com/Queen%20Lyrics/Love%20of%20My%20Life%20Lyrics.html), if you're interested, and there's a 30 sec sample (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000000OAN/qid=1115750651/sr=2-5/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_5/102-5934684-9943302) on amazon.com which should give you a good idea about the style of the song, I guess.

Hehehehe. Yeah, you might be right about the not funny part. Damien is in this scene. Listening to this song a month or two after his wife's death will not result in wacky hijinks!

I think [livejournal.com profile] katilara's suggestion of "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" might be what I need.

thanks though!

Hey Liss,

Somebody to love reached #2 on the UK pop charts in 1976. Great song. (it is off their "Day at the Races" album.

Hope it fits!

I LOVE that song. It's a little faster and more fun than what I'm looking for, but it might do in a pinch. (The scene's supposed to be funny for a change anyway ;) )

Thanks Pince!

Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy was released in 1976 on A Day At The Races. I've always thought it was fun. :)

Oh. My. God. that might be it. This could be too, too funny! Can you slow-dance to it at all, do you think?

I'd say you probably could. The verses are slower than the chorus but even that appears to be in basic 4/4 time. It's all jaunty too, not rapid or anything. I can totally see Sirius dancing to it, now that it's been brought up. :p Here's the file so you can listen to it and see if it would fit the tone.
