Headbanging
Dec. 4th, 2006 11:47 amArgh. I'm frantically writing my
hp_holidaygen fic, and it's so not coming out. I think I need to trim it down to the bare bones. I have an extension until the 8th, but that's only so many nap times and all. And I will finish it- I actually like the idea very much. It's sweet, although right now it's not acting it. But I've got a boatload of stuff to do and this fic just refuses to write itself.
Anyway, when I do get it done, would someone be willing to do a last minute, bare bones, look for typos and MAJOR mistakes because it's due the next day and challenge rules say I HAVE to have one beta? It's gen, with some allusions to Ron crushing on Hermione, and focuses on Sirius.
And because I'm procrastinating...
God, the writers are so not Aaron Sorkin. They really aren't. I miss the characters.
I miss CJ having a sense of humor under stress. I understand COS is probably a stressful enough position to make anyone lose it, but her humor and sass was what made her fun to watch. Now she comes across as a bitch, which isn't the character. I miss Toby having that undercurrent of caring. Yes, he is an arrogant self-righteous asshole, but there was always an element of being that way because it WAS right. Toby was a sort of moral compass, unlikable as he could be, and that's been translated to simply arrogant self-righteous asshole with no dry humor and no validation. Josh always was more fun for me with others around him (although I do like Bruno's summation of Josh as having political Tourette's.), and they've isolated him. I miss Charlie altogether. Donna's lost her perkiness, which she could have still kept even as she matured- at least to an extent. (Although I did see some of it last night.) They're doing a pretty good job with Leo, I admit. But I really, really miss Jed.
Where is the geek president? Where is the man who torments his staff with inane trivia and thinks his daughter would like a book in Latin more than a stereo? Jed being a total geek was what made him a character and not a cut-out of a presidential figure.
Stupid writers.
And while I like Santos and Vinnick (I would vote for Vinnick, I think, and the nuclear power thing would not have swayed me one bit), they just aren't Jed. ::Sigh::
Oh well. Sixty seven more words and I hit 500 for this round of writing. Better do it, cause Toby's up.

Date: 2006-12-07 04:31 pm (UTC)Thanks! I'll send it over tonight. (I'll also email the mods and let them know it's being betaed, so hopefully that will give me an extra day or two.)

Date: 2006-12-04 05:56 pm (UTC)I have the first three seasons on DVD, and I love them. I'll probably get four and maybe five, but I doubt I'll get the last two.
I don't know if I'll be around Thursday or not. Right now I have no plans besides the usual work, but that could change. But if you don't have anyone else who can beta, let me know. I definitely won't be around Friday though. :(

Date: 2006-12-07 04:34 pm (UTC)I totally would have voted for Vinnick if he was real, though. We just got to the episode where he said he doesn't believe marriage is a Federal affair, and that made me smile some. My primary objection to amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage is that the Constitution was made to protect rights, not take them away. :P
Bt yeah, the White House has been boring. Kazkastan is just not holding my attention :P

Date: 2006-12-04 10:16 pm (UTC)As for the West Wing: well, yes. *g* I still think seven is better than six, though I do think six is an improvement over five, so. I have seasons one through four on DVD, and bought seven, though I fully admit that I bought seven only because of the Josh/Donna. Yes, I'm a pathetic shipper, but they are the OTP of my soul. ;)
Frankly, I ended up ignoring/not watching just about anything that didn't have to do with the election. I'm not sure how far into it you are, but even CJ couldn't keep me interested in the White House, which is just plain sad.

Date: 2006-12-07 04:39 pm (UTC)The Josh/Donna is nice, although my OTP (aside from Abby/Jed) is Danny/CJ. For some bizarre reason, I adore those two. I'm amused though- the Election episode had more sex than the previous seven seasons put together!
