Silly Little FAP Rants
Feb. 2nd, 2007 09:43 amOkay, there was this article about a book store setting up a help line because two characters get killed off in the seventh book.
Um, please check your rumors, idiots. She said two additional characters who weren't supposed to die get killed off. To me, that says one thing: BLOODBATH!
I gotta stop reading George R.R. Martin. (Ha! yeah, right.)
Two. People using the Help, I'm Looking For! Forum. Please stop using "Looking for a fic!" or "Looking for Specific fic!" as a subject line. Not that this affects me, mind you. On the rare occasion I use the forum, I use helpful titles such as "Uncle Alphard fic?" or "Snape Goes to Vegas?" (not that I've ever used that one.) Everyone posting in that forum is looking for fics. At least put the character's name or a brief description in your subject line. Then I might even click on it if I know I have something (or if your subject line piques my interest). It's a stupid thing, but for some reason it bugs the hell out of me.
I just had to get that out.
Finally, does anyone know any good parenting forums? Toby turned 14 months today, and I am STILL having trouble getting him to eat anything but babyfood (and spaghetti-Os and chocolate chip cookies). I'm also now having trouble getting him to drink milk. He went from drinking maybe 20 ounces a day to maybe 3 ounces a day when we switched from bottle to cup. I don't offer him anything else, for the most part. He does get juice maybe once a week, and when he gets it, it's quite obvious he can drink from a cup. He likes milk just fine- he drank his bottles no problem. And we've been off the bottle for almost 2 weeks now, and his intake isn't really picking up. This kid and eating... honestly.

I don't have forum recs, but I remember my son went through very similar issues around that age. I believe there was a whole month where the only thing I could get him to eat was mashed potatoes. My only suggestion is to keep trying. Sometimes it can take as many as 15 tries before they'll eat something. And their milk consumption will go way down as they switch to the cup because they associate it with the bottle and the comfort of that. Have you tried giving him water to drink too?

Date: 2007-02-02 06:39 pm (UTC)I'm not really a big fan of milk for toddlers. Seems like more of a cultural thing rather than a healthy diet thing. It sounds like he was using the bottle for comfort more than the milk, anyway. Don't fret! He'll eat what he needs, most of the time. My eight-year-old still amazes me when he chooses a piece of fruit over junk food. We always followed his eating cues, and it seems to have worked out OK.

Date: 2007-02-02 08:02 pm (UTC)Which I admittedly prefer to the teenage romance saga of the last book -- if you're going to ignore your strong characters or make them act like idiots, why not just kill them off and spare us the horror of seeing them go to waste?

Date: 2007-02-03 01:04 am (UTC)OMG, I'm SO sick of people screwing this up. I mean, before we heard this, did anyone really doubt that at least two characters were going to die? Voldemort has to go and it's extremely unlikely that no one else is going to get killed in the whole book. So with the people who think only two characters are going to die, why are they acting like it's such a big deal?
Wow, Toby is 14 months old already. O_O I've got a question for future reference: how hard is it to have a baby to take care of and still have time to write?
