Mar. 21st, 2007 08:44 pmI have a few minutes before my remedial geek session (aka "Watching Buffy on DVD because we've never seen it"), so I thought I'd update. Wow.
1.) Daughtry makes alarmingly good writing music. I added 1-1/3 pages to AIL 13 today. Cool.
2.) My co-writer's mother mentioned she wants to read what we've written so far. I'm surprisingly nervous. Not because of the content, mind you. There's nothing in our story that's more mature than Harry Potter, and I know she reads that. (Well, there's the terrorist aspect. But her mom knew that already.) No, I'm nervous because of the quality of my writing. When I'm writing with "Annie", I tend to slap my stuff down pretty quickly. I'm doing this for a reason, actually. If we get to the point where we want to take this seriously, we're going to have to edit. And I want to be able to edit my stuff in front of her as well, so she doesn't feel like I'm attacking her stuff personally. (She can be kind of sensitive to criticism, and I think showing her that there's a ton of edits that are needed in my stuff as well is a valuable lesson.) Not that I'm deliberately putting in mistakes, but I'm not polishing as I go.
It's silly, but I'm a little self-conscious of it :)
3.) American Idol was actually good last night. Yeah, don't die of the shock. It would be nice if they'd let the kids sing some songs from this millenium, but if they aren't going to, the choices last night were a little different than usual. Although Sanjaya doing The Kinks was kind of alarming. What was even more alarming was there was a moment when I thought he should try his hand at some Violent Femmes.
Scary.
However, I'm still not terribly emotionally invested in any of the contestants. I really liked Bo during season 4 (and really enjoyed hating Constantine). I really liked Taylor and Chris last season. But this year... I'm not invested either way. Nobody grabs me quite so hard, and nobody makes me truly hate them, either. Although Jordin might make me really like her. She kicked butt last night- wow.
4.) Toby ate a few bites of waffle this morning! I know it sounds stupid, but for Toby, this is a major deal.
5.) Finished a book called Uglies by Scott Westerfield. Young adult, but quite good. Quite interesting. Going to start Pretties soon. (Oh, and
a_t_rain, the reason it took so long to finish AFfC was a serious lack of free time, not self restraint.) Anyway, Uglies is set in a world where extreme beauty is the norm. Highly recommend it so far.
6.) Happy Spring!
7.) My review of An Inconvenient Truth is posted at MRFH. If you haven't seen it already, see it. Worth seeing. Very important movie.
8.) I am doing okay on my Lenten resolution to not have sweets. Don't think I'm losing much weight, but I'm doing much better than I thought in my resolve. This does not mean I've been remotely perfect. But I did have the best strawberries today. Mmmm.
9.) I have no nine. I just wanted to have ten things.
10.) Must go do remedial geekage. Definitely like Firefly better than Buffy thus far (Firefly is more grown-up and has Simon. Sorry. I'm on a Simon kick these days.), but am enjoying Buffy muchly. Have a good one!

Date: 2007-03-22 01:34 am (UTC)In my opinion, Buffy hits its stride midway through the second season and reaches its acme during the third. Then its downhill again, but even when it's bad it's still Buffy.
Alas, no Simon. None of the Buffy boys really do it for me. Xander and Oz are too much like my brothers. I'd go gay for some of the Buffy girls, though.

Date: 2007-03-26 07:09 pm (UTC)And yeah, I'd LOVE to be Xander's best friend, but he isn't someone I'd go for. But Willow... I love Willow. And I can totally see why people like the Xander/Willow ship. They're so cute, even when they aren't dating. (I suspect they never do?) We haven't gotten to Oz yet. However, I have decided a lot of fandom thinks that Remus and Giles are the same person- wow. (Although I can see where you could easily do a Remus/Jenny ship! :) )

Date: 2007-03-26 08:07 pm (UTC)A lot of fandom does seem to think Remus and Giles are the same person. It's annoying, since it's not true. There are similarities, but they don't go very deep. That's one of the reasons I wrote my Remus/Jenny story. I wanted to compare Remus and Giles and let Jenny get a little action for once.

Date: 2007-03-28 02:15 am (UTC)Now that I actually know who Jenny Calander is and have some grounding in the Buffyverse, I'll have to read your crossover. I can see where Remus would totally go for her, and vice versa.

"In my opinion, Buffy hits its stride midway through the second season and reaches its acme during the third. Then its downhill again, but even when it's bad it's still Buffy"
But I very much like the more-Spike aspect of season four.
