Quick Canon Question...
Mar. 29th, 2007 01:11 pmDid Dumbledore know right away that Snape overheard Trewlany make the prophecy re: Harry and Neville? Or is there a time where it's possible to believe that Dumbledore doesn't know that Voldie knows about the prophecy? I vaguely remember whatshisface- Goat Man (why is the name escaping me? Aberforth!) playing into this somehow, but I can't remember exactly what happened. Anyone know off the top of their head?

Date: 2007-03-29 05:23 pm (UTC)Trelawney tells Harry that she was feeling a bit "odd"--i.e., had started to prophesy, though she doesn't know that--when Snape interrupted Dumbledore and herself:
"Yes, there was a commotion outside the door and it flew open, and there was that rather uncouth barman standing with Snape, who was waffling about having come the wrong way up the stairs, although I'm afraid that I myself rather thought he had been apprehended eavesdropping on my interview with Dumbledore - you see, he himself was seeking a job at the time, and no doubt hoped to pick up tips!"

So yes, Dumbledore knew almost the instant that Snape was caught.
