I am so unmotivated today. I seem to be getting nothing done. :P

I have been cleaning out my office, as it will become a room for Toby. (Must finish sketches and paint list!) I'm bittersweet about it. I've always known I'd lose my office and I don't really NEED one, but I'll miss having a room that's all mine. Of course, given how many toys are in here already, it's questionable as to how much it's really "mine." But honestly, I don't need an office at this point, and putting my computer in the guest room does just fine. Not like we have guests that often, anyway.

One thing I did come across though was a quilt my mom gave me for Christmas one year. It's about 3'x4', and it's handmade out of some of my Dad's clothes. I don't know what to do with it. On the one hand, I'd really like to display it somewhere. I mean, it's a handmade quilt. On the other hand, where?

Both of the boys' rooms are out, because I don't want it getting wrecked. Our room is out, because both hubby and I agree that it's not really a good place for any sentiment about our parents. Guest room is out, because I think it's rude to display a quilt of my dad's clothing where my stepfather sleeps. I think what I need to do is find a very small quilt rack and put it in a corner in the living room. It would match the decor in the family room so much better, but it's something I don't want wrecked, and also, hubby (rightfully) feels kind of awkward having too many mementos around of my father. A picture where the boys can see it is one thing, but hubby never even MET my father. But it's also a lovely piece of work artistically :)

Very quiet and dull. Not necessarily a bad thing. And happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] nyxfixx!!!

It doesn't sound too big - couldn't you turn it into a wall hanging? Then many of those rooms would qualify again, as it would be out of the boys' reach. And how many mementos is "too many"? It doesn't seem like you had a million throughout the house or anything.

I thought about that, but there's a lot of bright red in the quilt.

Right now, all the stuff from my dad is in my office, except for one painting that he did. We're going to hang the painting someplace, and I'm moving one of the pictures I have downstairs. (Plus, I want to blow up a picture of my dad holding me when I was a baby, and frame it with a picture of me holding one of the boys.) It's more a matter of proportion, I think. But also, the room the quilt would look the best in is the room we least want to put it in. ::sigh::

Like the icon, though! :)

One of my friend's recently did what the above commenter said and turned a family quilt into a wall hanging for her newborn son's room. It seems to have worked out well for them. She figured that when if, when he got a bit older, that it seemed to be in danger that she'd worry about where to place it next then.

You could also put the quilt in a shadow box with glass in front and then you could put it in whatever room you wanted to and it would stay safe.
