You know, it's very frustrating to realize I probably only have two or three more scenes in this chapter of AIL, and it's hard to drag myself through them. Maybe it will speed up once I'm done the scene I'm on, because this one is tough. This is definitely a chapter that needs a serious beta job, though. Anyone agreeable? I should have it done by Friday. The reason it needs a beta job is because there is a page-long Fenrir monologue, and there's a bit of an accent, in terms of words I chose. I suck at writing accents. Thanks in advance!

More afterlife questions on FAP. I HATE afterlife questions, and am starting to find them very offensive as they're often misogynistic and exceedingly simplistic. Bleh.

On a bright note, I finally started watching Season 1 of Heroes. We're blasting through so I can be caught up to watch Season 2. (Hubby watched Season 1 on his computer when he was traveling.) I've always known I'd like the series- I just didn't watch the beginning few episodes and figured I'd get caught up via DVD. And as expected, I love it. I totally understand the love people have for Hiro- he is so freaking adorable. It's not that he's even adorable, it's that there are people in this world who express joy and excitement so well it's completely contagious, and the actor is definitely one of those people. I think I would like him very much if I met him. But I just want to hug Hiro and pinch his cheeks :)

Although I keep comparing Heroes to X-Men. Come on- how can you not? The whole evolution thing, and then some of the powers are similar. Not that that's a surprise- how many other super powers can you come up with? But I am amused at how they made sure that, okay, Wolverine's power went to a young blonde cheerleader, Rogue's power went to an older male nurse (and is handled very differently), Professor X's time-stopping thing went to a Japanese office drone with amazing squee abilities, Kitti Pryde's power went to a really good looking black man... and then all these people cope with their abilities very differently than the X-men did (at least in the movieverse). It amuses me, but I like it for a lot of the reasons I liked the X-Men movies. I like gray characters, and these ensemble heroes really allow for that.

And I am so joining Weight Watchers again once I have this baby. Can't wait :P

I can beta as long as you don't need it done over the weekend (ie due Mon) - weekend's busy, but otherwise I should be able to manage it with both girls in school.

Thanks! I'm in no hurry and with this cold (and the medicine I'm taking), I'm not sure I'll get it done by Friday anyway. (I'm so out of it.) But no deadline. Appreciate it muchly!

Tonks already knows about Sirius and Remus. In the afterlife, does she expect Remus to stay with her, and does she put up a fight when he goes back to Sirius?

There are a lot of things that bother me about this question:

1.) the assumption that the afterlife is linear and is that simple. As the daughter of a remarried widow, this assumption just really gets me.

2.) I didn't like how R/T was written in book 6 (didn't bug me so much in book 7 because it wasn't supposed to be healthy, I don't think), but the assumption that Tonks would fight and be a baby (essentially implied) is rather insulting, especially assuming people understand things far better in the afterlife.

3.) There's an attitude of "Tonks stole Sirius's man, and the bitch should burn in hell for daring to love Remus" in this question. I don't like how JKR made Tonks so obsessive, but let's face it- people do fall in love with people who don't love them back in real life. It's a compliment, not something they deserve to be punished for.

4.) I actually attach more of the blame for the apparent unhappiness in the marriage to Remus. If Remus felt that strongly about not wanting to marry Tonks, he shouldn't have married her. Tonks made her feelings VERY clear, and (like Sirius) wore her heart on her sleeve. If Remus was uncomfortable with marriage for ANY reason, it was up to him to say it. It was up to him not to get married. Sure, he might have felt pressure, but the bottom line is no one forced him.

Remus was the one who really needed to grow up in R/T. Tonks did too, to an extent, but after Remus did marry her, I think she had the right to believe that he loved her and that he was committed. Tonks was upfront about what she felt, Remus was not.

5.) The way I end up reading some of these questions is that Remus/Tonks is inferior to Remus/Sirius not because Remus and Tonks had less time to bond or less history, but because R/T is het and R/S is slash. R/S is NOT a perfect, transcendent love, in my book. There are clearly some major issues there, and making it this perfect thing actually (in my mind) demeans the meaning of real love. What makes R/S such an interesting relationship to me is that the love persisted through many obstacles, some of which were external to the relationship and some of which were not. But the way this question is phrased is very catty. It bugs me.

See, I can see the anti-Tonks-ness, but I don't see how it translates into something about women in general. Is there some other aspect here I'm not aware of? I also don't see how what someone thinks about Remus/Tonks necessarily has to do with how they think about het and slash. I mean, it could, but I don't see clear evidence here.

Also, seeing as Tonks seemed to have a "nothing will keep me from Remus" attitude in HBP and DH, I think it's not out of nowhere, for someone who hasn't really thought a lot about the nature of the afterlife, to think of her fighting to be with Remus. But yeah, it is a simplistic view of the afterlife.

The actor who plays Hiro used to work at ILM and is a computer and effects wizard! He lived in Japan until he was 6 and then moved here. He is a very good actor and the range he gives this character will amaze you as the season progresses. Just wait until you meet FutureHiro!!He must be a very interesting person in real life.

I've seen FutureHiro once so far, and almost didn't recognize him :) I'm totally adoring the character, though. He is just so... so... LOVEABLE! Seriously. I think you'd have to be inhuman not to like Hiro.
