Who are we kidding? I am loving the House of M- the idea of Matt and Mohinder raising Molly. Thoughts about the House of M under the cut,

It's funny. I think normally I'd consider this too cute and Full House-ish. But I think one of the reasons I'm intrigued is because after Hiro and Ando, Matt is probably my favorite of the Heroes. I like Mohinder too, which helps, but I've always loved Matt's determination to be someone who can help save the world, even if he doesn't put it quite like that. (Really, it makes sense that I really like both Hiro and Matt, because although Hiro is far more exuberant about it, he and Matt have some core values in common.) Plus, Matt and Mohinder just seem such an unlikely team. Not that I can't see them getting along, but....

That actually leads to point one. As far as I can remember, the first time Matt and Mohinder really met was when Matt and Noah burst in and nearly killed Molly, and Matt made it clear no one was getting shot. But even if they met before that, it wasn't like it was this long, drawn out meeting where they really got to know each other. How, in four months, do you go from near perfect strangers to raising a child together? I mean, I know people do it, but a lot of times it's a little less of a conscious decision.

It makes sense, in a lot of ways. Molly has a strong (and well-deserved, well-motivated) attachment to both Matt and Mohinder. They both have a strong attachment to her, and thanks to Matt's divorce (more on that in a minute), they're both quite alone as well. (Interesting question: how is Mohinder having so little trouble staying in the US for such long periods?) Anyway, it makes sense they'd both want to look after her. It makes sense that Mohinder would visit Matt in the hospital at least once and they'd both realize that this other person was, at minimum, tolerable (although we don't actually KNOW yet that Matt and Mohinder are getting along. I'm just assuming that). Mohinder was going to travel a lot, so it makes sense that he'd need help in taking on Molly. Matt has just gotten divorced and has no job, so it makes sense that he'd stay with Mohinder at least until he can get on his feet (and after taking that many bullets to the chest and finding a new job, 4 months is pretty reasonable). So, it does make sense, in a storytelling kind of way. But I do wonder about other things.

While Matt and Mohinder do have some similar values and both have Molly's best interests at heart, they're very different people. Start with the fact they were raised in different cultures. That's not a bad thing, but I think that there are cultural differences in discipline, values, and how people raise kids, and as a result, it's something that can be successful with much discussion. Secondly, Mohinder was obviously raised by very educated parents and in a relatively wealthy household. We've never seen Matt's background, but for some reason I just have this impression of him as blue collar-ish. Mohinder is a certifiable genius, Matt is so severely dyslexic he can barely read. (I'd LOVE to see that point come up.) I'm not saying this isn't going to work, mind you. But if I was one of the show's writers, I'd be rubbing my hands at some of these differences. And having Molly totally play one off the other.

I also really want to know which one of them gets to give the period talk :)

Matt's divorce is another thing I am wondering about. He was so determined to get his marriage to work... what happened? I currently have three theories:

1.) It's a sham divorce to protect Janice and the baby. I'm not fond of this one though, because if Janice and the baby were in THAT much danger, wouldn't Molly be, too? Plus, Matt seems to have really bonded with Molly. I know you can love more than one child, but he's there with her instead of anywhere near his own son. This just seems a little too... it doesn't make sense for me.

2.) Turns out that the baby was the Other Guy's kid, and Matt got the divorce. This theory doesn't sit well because Matt didn't seem to be questioning it back then when she told him, and Janice mentioned in her thoughts she'd been so careful. Plus, getting a paternity test on a fetus = very, very expensive. (Although they do have those diamonds.) Or, and this I consider more plausible, Janice lied about the pregnancy.

3.) My favorite. During the time that Matt was running around and not able to call his wife, Janice miscarried. She was (naturally) very resentful that Matt wasn't there- even if he was getting filled with bullets- and that just led to the total collapse of their marriage. I like this theory because it does assign some blame to both of them.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed that they made Matt and Janice divorce. Not because it isn't plausible. It totally was. It's just that one of the things I liked about Heroes (one of the more minor things) was that it explored marital love. But they broke up Matt and Janice AND they broke up Heidi and Nathan AND there's potential for DL to be dead. The only marriage they left intact was the Bennets. I would have liked them to have kept at least one of the other marriages intact. But, I have to admit, cheating IS one of my big cardinal sins, and I'd rather they kept Heidi with Nathan (although they aren't confirmed divorced) or keep DL alive (if he's even dead) on a moral level. (Actually, I very much liked DL and would prefer that one most of all.)

Ah well. I should go accomplish something. Have a good weekend!
