General Chatter
Nov. 6th, 2007 03:58 pmArgh. I've been awfully quiet recently, mainly because during naptimes, I've been frantically painting Toby's big boy room. We need to get it done and get him moved over SOON, so it's taken priority over any other writing. Which sucks, because I really need to get AIL 14 finished (it's almost done, for crying out loud!) and I really need to write some movie reviews. But now I am done painting the big boy room! As soon as it's cleaned up, I'll have to take some pictures and post. It turned out pretty cute, I think.
It's also been quiet in a good way here. We're coasting along. About 5 weeks to the 14th, so 5 or less weeks until the baby is here. Life is good, can't complain about anything except being uncomfortable, and I'm not even THAT uncomfortable compared to what some women go through. I have a ton to do, but I also don't feel stressed because really, we don't have THAT much to do that's Super Essential. (I've also discovered just how much your estimation of Super Essential drops after you've done one kid. Not because you care less, but because you know exactly what a baby needs when he comes through the door, and you realize that there will be time to do laundry and get other things ready. The exersaucer isn't set up? So what? He won't use it for four months!)
Have been much enjoying Heroes, especially since I tend not to think TOO hard about it. Although would it kill them to give me some interaction between Matt and Mohinder? I'm not asking for slash, I'm asking for some indication that maybe they communicate positively about Molly or relate to each other as friends or adults. :P But I'm glad Hiro and Ando are back together again. They amuse me more together than apart. And Nathan is really starting to grow on me, which impresses me. I thought the character was well written, but I HATED him last season. Incidentally, he would never survive on Lost. He asks to many sane and interesting questions. :)
not much else. I know I've missed birthdays, and I also know there are several coming up. Happy belated birthday to
poolman, and happy early birthday to
heidi8 and
ignipes and
marilla82. (Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. If I missed you, mea culpa!)
And now, someone is awake. Off I go!

Date: 2007-11-07 09:28 am (UTC)I've been enjoying your 'getting ready for baby' posts because I have my first grandchild as of October 1. We're fairly close neighbors and I get to see her for a few hours five or six days a week. My son comes by with the baby when mum's at night school.
I was wondering what was happening with your son and his tantrums. I thought it was interesting that all the parents with tantrum-y kids advised some kind of 'ignore and don't give attention' strategy, while the two of us with day-care experience advocated a more hands on approach. Have you found something that has worked for you?

Date: 2007-11-13 09:00 pm (UTC)Congrats on your first grandchild! That's so awesome :)
Toby's been doing pretty well with tantrums. The at-home ones I'm always fine with ignoring, but it's the out of home ones that are harder. To be honest, he really hasn't had too many more, and the one he had most recently we sort of indulged him because we knew his problem was he was tired.
I didn't notice about the difference between parents advice and daycare advice, but you're right. That's interesting. Maybe because when you have daycare, you have so many little ones around, and when you're an at-home parent, you have the luxury of ignoring it better? :) I'm a big believer in there's no One Right Way, but it is interesting!
