I knew this would happen. I got Toby through teething, got a couple month break, and guess what? Trevor's teething. Early, I know, but the outline of the teeth is pretty clear and almost breaking through. I'm torn between swearing and thinking "well, maybe he'll get it over with sooner!" :)

Much to my surprise, I am actually contemplating making homemade baby food for Trevor. I didn't do it for Toby, but I have some reasons.

1.) I wonder if the transition to "real" food will be easier if I make the homemade stuff.

2.) Let's face it- the jarred stuff is DISGUSTING.

I know Toby has issues that are probably not my fault, or at least not totally my fault. I was reading up on the difference between picky eaters and problem eaters, and Toby is most definitely the latter. The feeding clinic said he probably has some sensory processing issues. But at the same time, I'm a mom, which means in my head it's ALL MY FAULT. I don't want to screw up with Trevor.

Plus, it's something I didn't do for Toby. It's kind of nice that I can do something extra effort wise for Trevor.

And finally, Howard gave me a book called First Meals for Mother's Day last year. It talks about making purees for baby food and goes all the way up to people food. It's a pretty neat book- and it really has me inspired. So, maybe I will do it.

Regardless, I SHOULD be writing my remix as my boys nap.

I weaned Ella almost exclusively on homemade food and I'm sure it's part of the reason why she's always been a good eater. It just seemed logical to me that if you want your kid to eat proper food, you should give them proper food - most of the stuff in jars hardly looks, tastes, or smells like food at all. Mostly I didn't bother with fancy recipes or anything - I just boiled up a few carrots and puréed them, mashed up a banana, that sort of thing. It was pretty easy.

Thanks! I'm definitely thinking I might try it- at least some of his stuff. The jarred stuff really is yucky. :P

I freely admit I'm SO NOT an expert on these things but ... aren't you supposed to wait until a baby is a couple of months older before starting actual food?

Hope Trevor eats better overall!

Oops- I probably should have mentioned I'm only just thinking about it. It will definitely be a few months from now. I was just looking through this book for ideas to present to Toby and perhaps something tasty to make for all of us :)

We had progress today- Toby actually touched the cheese on the cracker, and then picked it up! It's such a tiny thing, but for him, this is big!

If you do decide to try homemade baby food, let me know how it goes! We have a book that a friend raved about called "Super Baby Foods" which basically sounds like it's similar to yours, but I haven't read it yet. We have a few months before we need to think about this, obviously, but I'd love to hear your thoughts if you decide to try it...

I will definitely keep you updated! It looks pretty fun today, but we'll see how I feel and how energetic I am when the time actually comes. I've been told that the jarred stuff is really bland, and I have to admit that the Stage 3 stuff is just -gross.-

How's Sage doing? Sleeping and eating well and all that? :)

Sage is basically doing great, I think. Usually has a fussy period somewhere between late afternoon and ~1 am, but otherwise is a pretty calm kiddo. Breastfeeding is going relatively well, although I think my supply is generally low late in the day, possibly contributing to that fussy period... now that we figured that out though, maybe we can do something about it! She has now been introduced to a bottle of pumped milk, and will take it if she's hungry, so that might help. She sleeps fine, usually with some 3 or 4 hour stretches at night, which is about all I can go without getting leaky anyway. Making lots of stinky diapers. The usual! If you want to see more pictures, I'll send you a link from my new facebook page.

Thanks for sending me the pictures! I've gotta try getting going on the facebook pages- it seems like more people use those. Sage is absolutely adorable! And the outfits! I'm really, really, really happy with my two boys, but every time I see girl clothes, there's a little voice inside me that says, "but they're so CUTE!" Boys just have overalls.

I'm glad things are going well for you guys, and that she's eating well. I had SUCH a bad experience nursing Toby- it made those first days even more stressful. Trevor nursed great, but I despised it :P It's funny how all-consuming eating is at the beginning!

Okay. Time off today, so I am so out of here. Free time to myself- WHOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!
