lls_mutantThis is the first year since I've started doing Remix that I haven't been pinch hitting. It's very odd- even though there are plenty of other things I could be doing, I feel like I'm sitting twiddling my thumbs. I've sent in/commented that I'd happily do it, but I'm pretty mono-fandomistic, and when I was scrolling through the original application, I noticed that there were a lot of different fandoms this year. In the past, it seems like it's been heavy on the HP. This year, it seemed like a lot of people were applying in very different fandoms. Heck, I know just my f-list has branched out into Dr. Who, Supernatural, House, BSG, etc. It makes me much more limited in remixing.
Plus, I'd have to have a pinch hit handed in by Thursday, because that's my last night home alone :)
Anyway. It's funny- I've been branching into some of the shows that people are heavily into fandom for. I loved West Wing, still like Heroes and LOST, finally watched (and adored) Buffy, and we're currently working through Battlestar Galactica. But I have no desire to fic any of them. Not that this is bad- I really need to work on original stuff. Maybe I just don't feel there are as many untold stories. JKR set up this fascinating generation and did very little with them- there's LOTS of good plotty fandom room. Some of the others, not as much.
I think part of it, too, is that I don't have many OTPs. Or at least not ones that really compel me. And while romance isn't everything, it's often a starting point. My West Wing OTP was CJ/Danny, with Abby/Jed as a close second. Not very plotty. Ainsley/Sam (which I THINK is fanon, but I forget) would have had more potential, but I'm not a political writer. My OTP for Lost was Claire/Charlie, and the show explored that to my satisfaction. Buffy... I have no OTPs. None of the romantic relationships on the show pinged me, and even the characters that weren't together... nothing gets me. My favorite relationship on that one was Buffy-Giles (as written), but it's a dynamic that's just as easy to play with in original work. I have no OTP for Heroes, either. The first show where I REALLY have an OTP is BSG (where I'm totally an Adama/Roslin shipper). I really like Adama/Roslin. Like, Remus/Sirius like Adama/Roslin. (We're only just through season 2.5 though, so please don't say too much about that particular point.) I actually like Helo/Sharon, too, although it definitely is more melodramatic.
I guess this is all just my way of procrastinating cleaning up the absolute mess that is my kitchen. :P~~~~~~~ I should go do that now.

I'd write it, but it would have to be political in some way, so I'd have to know both sides of a contentious issue well enough to do both characters justice.Apart from Buffy, I don't have any real desire to write fic for my new shiny shows either. (And very few of my Buffy ideas are getting written. I just don't have the will these days.)

Date: 2008-04-15 10:38 pm (UTC)I feel you on this one. It is the gaps in canon that I love and that make me want to write. Maybe TV just doesn't allow for as many?
I love watching Doctor Who and feel like there should be a number of untold stories but I can never seem to get there. BSG has a number of large gaps in time periods and I feel like there is all sorts of fodder there. However, a lot of what I have in my head involves a whole lot more sex than my HP stuff and I just can't seem to get comfortable writing it.
