I'm in a bit of a writing rut after AIL 9, and with the travel I have planned for the next two weeks, I suspect I won't get much of 10 written before HBP. So...

I'm gakking an idea from other journals (most recently [livejournal.com profile] krislaughs) and saying challenge me. Toss me a prompt. Anything. In the AIL universe (as long as it's not really heavy angst), out of it, whatever... just with a few simple rules:

1.) The fic has to stay under 8,000 words. This is more for me, because we all know how wordy I get. (The average chapter of AIL is about 17,000-20,000 words.)

2.) No incest. In any way, shape, or form.

3.) I'm not much on writing hard NC-17, glitter, or AUs that don't take place in the wizarding world. I'm also more on "canon" pairings- or at least pairings that could concievably happen in canon. I will NOT write NC-17 or even R for the kids' generation.

Other than that... help a writer out. And since I tend to like people to illustrate my fics, if you've got an illustration you'd like a fic for, I'm all about that.

And gen? I LOVE gen. So all you people on this flist who don't think there's enough gen out here, here's your chance. I will very, VERY happily write gen!

ETA: As of 10:15 on Monday night, the prompts are (the list is more for my benefit than anyone else's!):

Young Caradoc and Moody (from the AIL universe)- [livejournal.com profile] aome
Regulus befriending one of his brother's friends, and one or both changing a bit- [livejournal.com profile] gehayi
Snape as a young DE/knowing Remus is spying for Dumbledore (probably AIL universe)- [livejournal.com profile] maglors_finch
Remus seeing Harry's Patronus- [livejournal.com profile] jazzypom
Sirius in dog form meeting Aunt Marge (hehehe)- [livejournal.com profile] yma2

All gen! Whoohoo!

What characters do you prefer? Which ones wouldn't you write under ANY circumstances?

I'm not crazy about writing anyone with an accent, although I'll make a stab at doing it. And I find writing Voldemort himself very, very difficult. (I keep hearing the Imperial Death March in my head.) Other than that, I will write anyone. I mainly write in the MWPP generation, but I'm definitely game for branching out!

I know just what you mean. Accents--whether Fleur's, Viktor's or Hagrid's--are hard to write.

Hmmm. All right. Caradoc Dearborn. He was one of the original members of the Order of the Phoenix, and he vanished six months after the group picture (Chapter 9, OotP) was taken. As he was in the original Order, MWPP and Lily must have at least been acquainted with him. Why did he vanish? Is he still alive? Did his vanishing have any effect on the Order, MWPP, or both?

How's that? Is that vague enough? Is it something you can work with? If not, I can come up with something else.

I'm sorry- I shouldn't laugh because it's an AWESOME question. But it's also a major part of Accidentally In Love.

I got tired of the gorgeous-gay-and-after-Remus-to-explain-why-Remus-was-standing-near-him-in-the-picture version of Caradoc Dearborn, so he ended up being a bug-eyed scientist with no respect for personal boundries in my world. He was Remus's first employer, and he and Remus were very, very close, although Remus didn't realize it. He just disappeared in the last chapter, and a good third of the chapter deals with the effects of it- especially on Remus and Alastor Moody (his best friend). And sadly, he's definitely dead. (Which is annoying, because he was one of my favorite characters.)

Can I ask you to try a different one? :)

How about writing Snape as a young DE? If he knew Remus was `working' for Voldemort (maybe they even took part in the same raid/venture/whatever once?), this knowledge would add fuel to his suspicions that Remus was in league with Sirius during PoA. As I don't think you're inclined to write Snupin, this would definitely be gen.

Darn, you know I was going to ask you for some sort of Remus and Hagrid interaction... but with the accents? Nah...

OK... this is very silly and very strange... but what about Sirius (in Padfood form,) meeting Aunt Marge. Just an idea...
 Or you can try the other one if you want... but there are less accents in this idea.

The Sirius/Marge idea is way, way, way too fun, so please forgive me if I take that over Remus and Hagrid! :) Because I know, already, just why Sirius was a dog around Marge.... hehehehehehehhehehe.

Ooooooh. THIS will be a challenge. I've never written Snape (even though I love him), so yeah. This one will take thought.

(Actually, Snupin is my only other slash ship, but it has to be post-OotP and extremely empty, angsty, and bitter, with neither side falling in love. Respect at the absolute most. A rare beast to come across, but if it's done like that I LOVE Snupin.)

Actually, I was going to suggest writing young(er) Caradoc and Moody together (as friends, I mean). Maybe something from their Hogwarts days, or young-adult lives?

I'm also amused because I've actually never seen the gay-and-after-Remus theory about Caradoc.

Anything outside of Caradoc's disappearance I'll gladly do, because I love him and it really sucks that he's dead. ::Sniff::

I forget where all I've seen it, but every now and then Caradoc pops up as after Remus. It tends to be as a side character to make Sirius jealous and galvanize him into chasing Remus and he has no personality whatsoever, but I know I've seen it from more than one author. But it's definitely out there.

I haven't seen Accidentally In Love. Mea culpa.

Let's see...Regulus befriending one of his brother's friends--and both of them having to alter some long-cherished ideas and/or habits because of this unexpected friendship. Can happen at school or post-Hogwarts.

How's that?

From: [identity profile] lls-mutant.livejournal.com
That I can do. I suspect it will be assimilated into Accidentally In Love, but it's one of those things that can stand alone very easily, as well. (Maybe with a little explanation at the beginning.)

And I don't blame you for not having read AIL :) It's fricking looooooong. (As in, I seriously need a life long.)

So you *do* like a qualified Snupin... Actually, I share most of your preferences here, with the possible exception of the emptiness (which I can't reconcile with Snape's passionate character - and I don't mean passionate in a positive sense). But yes, a good Snupin is post OotP, and the words "I love you" are anathema.

word for the snupin factor

I've only found five stories that fit the criteria. Five - and I wrote one of 'em. :p

Erm - prompt? The scene when Remus sees Harry's first Patronus (remember, Harry was playing Quidditch, and fired his patronus after the dementor - only to find out that it was Malfoy and his companions). In the book JK describes Remus as looking 'happy but shaken' - what was Remus thinking at that time?

Well, now that I've heard of AIL, I'll look for it. Unfortunately, I hadn't heard of it before today.

I envy people who can handle long stories. My longest completed story to date was 6,500 words. Took a couple of weeks to write it.

And thank you! I look forward to seeing your Regulus story!

It's over on Astronomy Tower, under Lupinslittlesister. It's also the sequel to Deny Thy Father (which is Sirius running away from home) and Mentors on the Dark Arts. I'd dig up the links (I really should put them on my front page or something), but it's getting late and I'm lazy. :) If you want them, I can dig them up tomorrow morning.

I have a nasty tendency to write long. Deny Thy Father is 6 chapters, Mentors is a one-shot but 20 pages in word, and Accidentally In Love is currently 9 very long chapters. But it's nice to actually write, as opposed to novel which is in editing.

And thanks for the prompt- should be interesting to write! (I have to say, I'm delighted. Every single prompt I got was pretty much gen!)

I'm probably [too] late, but I'd love to hear some more Alphard & Remus. Maybe a cut scene from Mentors or something. I just love the relationship they have with one another. (yeah! another gen request!) After reading Mentors I was sort of dying for a Remus/Alphard first time fic but I think I'm over that now and would happily take anything Remus & Alphard you can toss my way :D
