Happy belated Mother's Day to all the moms on my f-list! (And happy belated birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain and [livejournal.com profile] sasha_davidovna) Hope everyone had a great one.

Mine was definitely good. Very busy, though, as it was also Trevor's dedication. (For those who don't know, an infant dedication is sort of like a baptism without the washing away of sin bit. Our church does adult baptism, and when a child is an infant, the parents "dedicate" themselves/the baby to the church.) After everyone left, hubby made me his specialty for dinner- stromboli. Yum! And Toby colored me a picture in the nursery :)

We've been making some progress in the eating department, going to OT twice a week. Toby's occasionally taking some nibbles of new foods. It's baby steps, but it's still big. If nothing else, I feel like this approach will eventually work, as long as we can keep on it.

I was going to say more, but I have nothing very interesting to say :P

One final question, which I'm mildly uncomfortable asking and will delete once someone answers: anyone know a mild slur for Catholics? Obviously, I'm writing and would never use it in real life, but I'm just not up on my insults. The only two I've come up with so far are VERY distinctly Irish, and I'm working in England.

My recovered-catholic husband's personal favourite is 'cannibal', due to the wafer thingy supposedly becoming part of their messiah's flesh.

Papists? LOL... I don't know, I can't ever recall being insulted for being a Catholic.

Also, belated Happy Mother's Day to you too!

Glad you had a good day!

The only anti-Catholic insults I can think of are Papist and Fenian.

If you're working with English characters (HP?) then 'Papist' would be the standard one, spat out like a swear word. Doubtless there were plenty of others during the period from about say 1560-1830, and especially the 18th century, when Catholics were the Designated Scary Bad Guys in the way Arabs/Muslims are now and Communists were in the mid-20th century, but in modern times that's about the only obvious one I can think of.

Papist is the most common one from the Aubrey/Maturin novels, and sounds about right to me. That said, these comments are going to look pretty odd if you do delete the question.

Thanks! It was pretty good. :)

Congrats on Trevor's dedication and Toby's improvement!

So glad to see that you had a good Mothers' Day! And a big yay for Toby's improvement and Trevor's dedication.

I'm not sure of any slurs for Catholics, though I guess Papist might be it.

Um, also, I'll be up that way on the 21st, a week from Wednesday, and will have free time in the morning to the mid-afternoon that day. I'm thinking I'll rent a car, so I can get around more easily.

I know this is late, but a quick Google search turned up "cod biters" and "mackerel snappers" in reference to the eating fish on Fridays tradition.
