Okay, how frakking FUNNY is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog??? Especially when Nathan Fillion comes on? Oh my god, I laughed my ass off. Before that point I was snickering, but Captain (Tightpants) Hammer's entrance was one of the most hysterical things I've seen in a long time. And Neil Patrick Harris is made of awesome. I always did enjoy the geek villains in Buffy, and this is even better.

Other notes. Posting at [livejournal.com profile] rs_games has begun for round 2. Yay!

Some neighbors gave me a book that they swore worked on their daughter in potty training in under a day. I'm skeptical, but some of the things they told me about (like getting your child to teach a doll to use the potty) make good sense. I need to rig it up so Toby's T. Rex can pee, I guess. My suspicion is that the method works well if your child is ready, but if they are not, it doesn't. I haven't read the book yet, but I do like the idea of Toby teaching T. Rex, anyway.

So, I've been rewatching BSG, and this time around I've been paying a lot more attention to the minor characters. I'd forgotten how much I used to like Dee.

I have to admit, it turned me off of Dee when she two-timed Billy. I think that was a bit of shoddy writing since Paul Campbell was leaving the show (I really wish he hadn't done that- Billy was so much cooler than Tory), but I also suspect Billy and Dee were never going to last, anyway. But I've wondered two things: 1.) Is she a Cylon? and 2.) if she's not (and he's not), are they going to hook her up with Gaeta?

Like lots of people, I've kind of thought that the last Cylon should be a woman. Of the 11, 7 are male and 4 are female- it makes sense if another one is female. However, I just can't make Dee work. She's just too vanilla. I'm not complaining, mind you. I don't find her character all that interesting, but there's Roslin, Starbuck, Cally, Sharon, the Sixes, the Threes... it's not like this show is lacking in awesome female characters, and hey- I think Apollo is incredibly boring, too. But the one thing I'm thinking is this:

There are, to me, five "main" human characters: Adama, Roslin, Starbuck, Apollo, and Baltar. Adama's found out his best friend is a Cylon. Roslin found out her aide is a Cylon. Starbuck found out her husband is a Cylon. Baltar- well, there's Six. However, Apollo has not yet been personally strongly hit with the "you're a Cylon?" thing. Which is the strongest argument yet for Dee to be a Cylon, I guess.

I don't know. In so many ways she makes sense- she's been there from Day 1, she's in a sensitive position, she's a hot chick, and she's also been together with people of power. If they revealed her as a Cylon I wouldn't be shocked, but I also wouldn't be bowled over with the awesomeness of that. (I personally believe the identity of the final Cylon can't be a shock- there are too few players left. I think it will be something different that's shocking, like their motivation or why they've remained hidden.)

(For the record, however, since D'Anna seemed SO convinced that the final Cylon was not in the Fleet, my current guess is Ellen. But I have tons of caveats attached to that.)

I've also wondered as I've been watching if they're going to go Dee/Gaeta. At this point in the game, I think that depends on if either of them are a Cylon. I still think the odds are very good that one of them is, although I could very easily be wrong. But anyway, I'm kind of hoping they don't go Dee/Gaeta.

I can see where it would work. The two of them have a very nice history together- they're obviously friends. I can also see where, from a writing point of view, it would be VERY easy (and believable) to say he's always loved her, but since she confides in him about her lovelife he's always known he didn't have a chance and never pushed it. The background is there. And I don't even mind Noah's Ark syndrome so much on this show, because let's face it- BSG IS Noah's Ark. (However, I would like to point out that marriage is not a prerequisite for procreation. There's a reason they never dealt with homosexuality from that front, I suspect. If you want to propagate the human race, it doesn't matter who marries who or who lives with who. It matters who makes babies. And artificial insemination or one-night stands accomplish the job just as well as marriage.)

Part of the reason I'm not crazy about Dee/Gaeta is the whole two-timing thing. But she's paid for that in spades, I think. I think the reason I'm not crazy about the idea is they've already turned most of the strong male-female friendships into sexual relationships. They don't always end happy, but I'd like to see them keep at least one male-female friendship completely platonic. Dee and Gaeta strike me as brother/sister, and I vastly prefer that for them. (I always preferred the sibling vibe between Apollo and Starbuck, too, for that matter.)

I honestly would like to see more representations of female-male relationships that, even if a crush is entertained, never turn sexual. That's one thing I really enjoy about Joss Whedon's work- Buffy-Xander, Mal-Zoe, Mal-Kaylee, Jayne-Kaylee... they're there. I'm forgetting others, but those are awesome and I wish there were more.

::sigh:: I think Trevor's up. Off I go!

RE: Dr. Horrible - omg I know, right? I stayed up until midnight just so I could watch it as soon as possible.

"It's curtains for you, Dr. Horrible. Lacy, gently-wafting curtains."
