Whew- I was a good girl. I did a workout. Of course, now I'm eating some ice cream, but still... it's low fat and I planned for it.
So, let's talk .
First off, the show didn't start in The Best Way Possible, which would have gone something like this:
BOOM!
Mohinder: Oh no! Maya died in a puff of smoke or killed by some evil new villain! Oh well. Maya who again?
Can you tell I don't like Maya? seriously- the other new character, Monica? I liked her. I liked her a lot. Why are we keeping Maya around? :grumble::
Overall, I enjoyed it, but I suspect it's best not to think too hard about it. I'm very much hoping that they'll ease up on the time travel, because time travel always makes my head hurt, but I just won't think too much about it.
Let's see. Peter. I still can't get into Peter. Funny- I never seem to like the young male lead. Peter, Jack, Apollo... they all annoy me. Peter the least of the three, I'll give him that credit. My biggest concern about Peter is that they're making him too powerful. The thing about magic and powers is you have to have rules and limits, otherwise it just goes klabooie and makes no sense at all. But future Peter is far more entertaining than present Peter, so I won't argue with that.
Nathan. How many freaking shows do I watch that have divine plans? I currently watch three shows- Heroes, LOST, and BSG. They ALL have divine plans- or close enough to it. Or someone thinks they do. Anyway, if they were going to bring religion into it, Nathan is the right one to have an awakening (if it's totally genuine, which I could buy), but dude, if you're going to hallucinate someone telling you you're part of God's plan and implying that they're an angel, take a lesson from Baltar and go for a hot blond in a red dress, not an old man.
I haven't figured out who I think Tracy is, but she's far more tolerable than Nikki or Jessica, and certainly moreso than Gina. Tracy can stay for a while.
Hiro! Geeky Hiro is back! I LOVE geeky Hiro, and he's always been the best thing about the show. I'm delighted he has someone he calls "nemesis" now. And even more delighted that he and Ando are back together. Although I think it was on the Mutant board that someone theorized that Ando was the hero in that vision and Hiro was the villain, and that so needs to be true. (Because Hiro really does have a dark side.)
Mohinder. ::sigh:: Mohinder, you have lost all my love right now. Honestly- Mohinder is supposed to be smart. "Oooh, let's make a spiffy new serum from a girl who cries death and then inject it into myself, without testing it on another living thing or running any properties tests on it or hell, even sleeping on the matter! And I won't tell anyone I'm doing it or do it in a controlled environment with medical assistance standing by, I'll do it down at the docks!" Mohinder is putting the pretty in pretty stupid, let me tell you. And Mohinder/Maya? Eww.
I'm serious about that. Despite what my icon looks like there, I actually don't put Matt and Mohinder together. I wanted to, but I just couldn't get it to work. I am like the sole person on Earth that liked Matt's relationship with his wife on screen (although I don't think it was very healthy), and well, the truth is Heroes is- for me- the most non-shippy show ever. I've truly enjoyed one romance, and that was Hiro and Charley, the waitress girl back in Season 1. And Bennet can stay with his wife, too. But it's just not a relationship show for me, and I prefer it that way.
Sylar. I am also the only person alive, I think, that gets bored by Sylar. I really wish they'd killed him off in Season 1. Although the whole "are you going to eat my brains?" "Claire, that's disgusting" was pretty darn funny.
Claire is actually showing signs of being interesting this time around. I like her realization that healing isn't a very active power. This is good, because she's such a writer favorite that they need to make her interesting.
Matt talking to the turtle was hysterical. You could just see him thinking that he got Dr. Doolittle powers. Looking forward to more Matt, please. He and Hiro are my favorites.
And Ma Petrelli continues to be AWESOME. Characterwise, anyway.
So yeah, I enjoyed it, but I deliberately didn't think too hard, either. :)

Date: 2008-09-23 11:30 pm (UTC)You're totally right about the time travel. Not because it's brain-hurting for the viewers (though it is), but because it clearly also does bad things to the brains of the writers. Hopefully they'll introduce the whole "rift" issue future Hiro talked about in Season 1 soon, and Peter and Hiro'll have to severely limit their use of that ability.

Date: 2008-09-27 05:11 am (UTC)Time travel just scares me. It was a neat device when Hiro got a glimpse of the future and used it as a "need to save the cheerleader" impetus, because the focus was on the puzzle and how everything got put together. But when the focus becomes on the time travel, you start getting into too many bizarre questions.
