Okay, f-list. Question for you.

There's a couple of you out there that say you have been spoiled. Me, I don't mind being spoiled. In fact, on this particular matter I WANT to be spoiled, because I will enjoy the book much more if I know it's coming.

I've seen the rumor/spoiler that Tonks falls for Lupin. HOWEVER, I have reasonable reasons to be doubtful of the validity of the poster- not the least of which is that I have no clue as to who they are (and some of the other spoilers seemed a bit unlikely to me). Is there anyone out there that can elaborate on this particular rumor/spoiler/whatever? (Especially on Lupin's feelings in return, if they're known?)

Thanks muchly! :)

The rumours I've heard is that feelings are felt in return but by the end the state of play is very much left up in the air.

Aargh. Why am I more nervous about HBP now?

Curious. I've heard these too. Why does it matter?

I wouldn't believe anything anybody says until next Saturday. I don't mind being spoiler, either, but people posting so-called spoilers these days are likely just making stuff up, so it's pretty ridiculous. (And if they aren't just making stuff up, they're risking genuine legal action. as JKR and her publishers have made abundantly clear.) It's like rumours in high school. (Just one of the many, many ways the HP resembles high school...but that's a whole rant by itself.)

But, really, who hasn't fallen for Lupin? Anyone? Anyone? Right. NO ONE. It is the natural state of the universe. Chicks dig the scruffy werewolf. JKR knows that. She likes him herself.

Anyway, no matter what happens, it ain't going to be a big part of the books. *shrugs* I used to care a lot about Remus' canon love life, but I find it really hard to get worked up now. Besides, if he's got a love life, that means he's actually GOING TO BE IN THE BOOK ENOUGH FOR THE KIDS TO GOSSIP ABOUT HIM. That's a good thing. No more vanishing werewolf, thankyouverymuch!

How was Baltimore?

Same rumor I've heard. ::sigh:: But I really do wonder just how valid it is, y'know? It seems like something like that is something you'd have to read pretty carefully for. The idea of a major character dying... it was easy to find that out very quickly. A minor romance... doesn't that just seem like it would be hard to catch flipping through? Plus JKR has said don't trust anything unless it- yadda yadda yadda. Maybe I should just go weed the garden and not think about it!

Er. I meant that the HP fandom resembles high school. Since the books take place in a high school (basically), that wasn't a very meaningful remark as written. *sigh*

Two reasons:

1.) I'm silly and obsessive and like the idea of R/S staying canon. I know it could, even if a T/L relationship was mutual, but still. But more than that...

2.) I kind of wish Tonks would stay unattached. I LIKE her single and not worrying about the fact. Especially since there's so much emphasis in fanon on shipping (in canon, I guess there's barely any. But still!)

Just one of those things I want to know....

The way I heard it was that someone had a pretty good read through. The way I see it, the larger bookstores can take the risk of legal action but with the smaller stores, it could be easier for a book to slip through the net.

*smacks hand Dobby style* Maybe I should go and watch a film.

Shoot. My answer just got deleted.

but people posting so-called spoilers these days are likely just making stuff up

See, that's exactly what I'm thinking. (And I knew what you meant about the fandom being high school ;) ) I mean, I wasn't on LJ or active in the fandom before OotP, but NOWHERE did I hear that Sirius was the Big Death. (I didn't know until I looked at the last few pages when my book came ;) ) And Lupin/Tonks seems like it would be such a minor detail that it would be hard to pick that up unless you read the book, which I doubt many people have been able to do.

Plus, I always trust rumors more when they're correctly spelled ;)

I used to care a lot about Remus' canon love life, but I find it really hard to get worked up now

I'm trying to get to that phase, and really hoping I do once HBP comes out. I'm seeing a very, very promising trend in my writing, which is the huge desire to write genfic oneshots. (Thank God.) And good point about no more vanishing werewolf! :)

Baltimore was lovely, thanks :) We stayed at our favorite B&B, and got to actually SEE each other for a while. And the Red Sox lost, which I don't care about except for it annoys hubby's best friend, and annoying hubby's best friend is ALWAYS fun :)

Gossip on the grapevine says that someone got hold of it and then posted spoilers in a flocked post. But these things are like Chinese Whispers. Someone says something and it get twisted out of all propotion. *sighs*

I like the idea of R/S remaining canon too (or at least, not flat out denied). I just figure, we'll all find out soon enough about Remus/Tonks or any other ship.

I'm just wondering what ship wars are going to brew...(gets popcorn ready)

Let's try this again, shall we...?

This just begs for a mention of My Teenage Fan Club here... :-D

I literally let out a Sirius-like bark of laughter! God - that's SO true! (And Sirius agrees whole-heartedly! *g*)

As for spoilers... I don't really mind so much either. I'm not inclined to believe them until I read it myself anyway, but, with regard to R/T...

To be honest, nothing is going to stop my shipping R/S. Nothing. Not even JKR holding a press release where she states it's a preposterous notion. The more I re-read, the more hints I see, and it's not like I'm actively looking for words that I can twist to make them fit my beliefs. It's just something that I see, period, and that's not ever going to change. And now that Sirius is dead, well, unless Remus is going to follow him, I don't want him living the rest of his life alone and lonely and pining. It's possible to love more than one person in your lifetime.

I'm really not that worried about it, to tell you the truth. And think of what the subtextual backstory could be: Tonks knows about R/S and wants to help him 'live' again. I can't see where - if there IS a relationship between Remus and Tonks - that she'd go into all (or any) of the details of how it started and why. What purpose would that have towards the plot?

We'll know in 5 days. Until then, I take everything I hear with a grain of salt

That's really interesting, because I've been thinking the same thing lately. And even stories (like my Chocolate Factory crackfic crossover) that totally could be Remus/Sirius, which very little effort on my part, just work so much better in my mind as genfic. Weird.

Honestly, that's one thing I'm terrified of over on FAP. There's enough R/S ship hate there (and sometimes, I can understand the reasons- like the few bad apples who DO accuse a poster of being homophobic if they don't ship R/S) that I don't think I want to be around.

And yeah. I'll read HBP no matter what, and I suspect I'll love most of it. The other spoilers- be they true or not- sounded kind of intriguing. (Although I wonder if Draco will be all that important. I really, really do.) Even though I never write the fanfic for him, I adore Harry. But if I know about Remus/Tonks, then I can be mad and annoyed now, and get over it and just sit back and enjoy the book. Heh.

Wierd mind :)

I adore that story, because it's SO TRUE. The moment Professor Lupin appeared, he became the teacher that all the female students have a crush on. Even if he wasn't, really, he was in everybody's mind. :)

Heh. Yeah, for all that Remus is detested in the HP world, he could really clean up with us real-life babes ;)

I totally agree that I don't want Remus lonely and pining. That's just not right. The big reason I would wonder about it is that Tonks is Sirius's cousin. But then, that connection... you could have a lot of fun with that. Especially since the same rumor has it they aren't blissfully in Twu Wuv at the end. (Gads. I'm already spinning why not in my head.)

And yeah, I'm pretty much taking everything I've read on the Spoiler Zone there with a grain of salt as well. It could be true... or we could open up to the back of the book and find out the Big Death was Molly Weasley or something that no one's really been speculating about.

Love the icon. Definitely fits the discussion :)

But yeah. It could even be that the poster who put up the rumors just made some logical guesses. None of the rumors sound overly preposterous (I mean, hands up. Who hasn't thought Dumbledore will die at some point?), and even I've admitted that Tonks/Lupin is possible as a future ship. (I don't think it was going on in OotP.) There's really nothing against it, when you get right down to it. Or for it.

But yeah... I just wonder about the validity. Six days.... (any bets on me reading the last few pages first?)

Well, you can also only do so much with R/S, really. A lot of the stuff has been done to death, and it's kind of like "what's the point?" Even a lot of your more recent stuff that has R/S in it- the pairing is the background, not the focus. They're established and the story revolves around something outside the relationship. (Which I enjoy.) And there's so much in Remus's life that lends itself to gen that it's a shame to limit one's self to ship stuff. I'll be honest- I'll be SO glad when Accidentally In Love is done, because I'm getting kind of tired.

I'm also getting tired of doing the epics, because I can't get paid for them and it seems silly to be investing so much into a story maybe... how many? I honestly don't know? people are reading. (And I don't invest THAT much into it- my lack of editing is atrocious at times.) But epic is really the only fun way for me to write R/S. Gen, on the other hand, I can easily do in one-shot. But I really, really, really need to get moving on something original.

Or something scientific.

It's funny. There was that "underappreciated authors" thing last week, and I think gen authors as a whole fall into that category. Which is too bad!

That's the thing. It's only 6 days to go, so it's plausible that someone could have got hold of a copy. As you say, none of the rumours are completely out there and apart from the Remus/Tonks, I wouldn't mind any of the other rumours happening. Especially about Snape. If nothing else, it would gives us *tons* of backstory.

Well, if I were a bookshop owner (or worked in one and could get away with it!) I'd have read HBP the second they were delivered. So I'm sure people have read it already. But then it comes down to the game of "Telephone": "My brother's best friend's aunt's cousin's next door neighbor read it and said..."

I agree with the posters above, and you. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens, and I'll be very happy if it means we get to avoid disappearing werewolf syndrome, but I'm taking everything with a grain of salt until I'm reading the last chapter (first, probably, knowing me ;) ) Most of the other spoilers out right now sound kind of implausible to me (with one notable exception).

If it does happen, I hope it will happen in a way that leaves R/S possible, but even if it doesn't, I'm far too convinced at this point to stop 'shipping them. I've always wanted to go to Egypt anyway. ;)

But, really, who hasn't fallen for Lupin? Anyone? Anyone? Right. NO ONE. It is the natural state of the universe. Chicks dig the scruffy werewolf. JKR knows that. She likes him herself.

Exactly. The werewolf-Bill one was really, really, really interesting too- especially if Remus bit him. (And if Peter Pettigrew killed BILL then, with that silver hand.) And it would be kind of funny to me, because Alphard became a werewolf when working as a cursebreaker for Gringotts. ::Snicker:: And maybe THAT'S what JKR was setting up with that other werewolf... not an alliance between Remus and him, but the Weasley parents' reactions. And Remus/Tonks would seem totally plausible to my husband, who's not at all any sort of shipper. So....

The one rumor I've heard is that it was a book reviewer that linked the info to someone's cousin. But some of the things the reviewer alledgedly couldn't remember made me wonder how much of this is true. ::shrugs::
