Oh my God, we're home. From Florida. Phew!

We went down to Florida to see my parents. The boys' first plane trip, and dealing with my stepfather, who can be... difficult at times. Overall, it went well. I am so relieved.

I am also now 12,000 words behind in NaNoWriMo. I'm really gonna have to work.

And, of course, a fic wants my attention. I've had this idea for a Dee-Hoshi fic for a while. One where Hoshi hates Dee because he feels that he should have been XO of the Pegasus once everyone went down to New Caprica, and he thinks Dee slept her way there. (Um, he's not really wrong.) And how Dee and Hoshi hated each other for a long time, and things happened that made them go up and down, like a major plot point I don't want to mention and Dee getting mad because post-NC Gaeta and Hoshi hooked up, and she felt like she was losing her friend.

And now? I have to write it. Why?



Because Gaeta/Hoshi is canon! At least in the webisodes. People are concerned that the webisodes will be the only place that they address it, but I don't think so. My thought? 1.) The webisodes will do a little bit of how they got together, because it may have happened before Demetrius (although maybe not), but regardless, they're minor characters. Well, minor enough that an extended "how they got together" line won't really fit in canon, necessarily. But it could in webisodes. And 2.) Hey, Hoshi, that shade of red is REALLY nice on you! You should wear that shirt more often! (That's not a spoiler- that's speculation.) Seriously. I'm willing to bet money that Hoshi is going to bite it. And really, I think that the Gaeta/Hoshi relationship is very secondary to the true Gaeta love plotline, which was Gaeta being in love with Baltar. (In fact, I now strongly suspect that's going to come up.)

But yeah. It made me happy. Because the thing is, for all that people joke about the name, Gaeta isn't a stereotype. And being homosexual would not be the major plot point for him, but also isn't being completely brushed to the side. But I'm tired, and you all know my thoughts on this. And if you don't, ask me and I'll gladly pontificate as I procrastinate catching up on NaNoWriMo :)

Good luck with the Nano! It might not be possible for you, but I've found one of the methods recommended in Chris Baty's book has really been working for me in racking up the words - setting an alarm so that I write for exactly half an hour, take a ten minute break, then do it again. Even just a few of these sessions has yielded a lot of words (especially when I turn of the Great Distractor, aka the internet!)

Thanks! I actually do something similar, that I listen to a few songs and then break. And if I budget them out, I might be able to pull it off. It's an additional 1000 words per day, but me and length? Do you really think that's an issue? :)

OMG! I'm definitely excited about the Dee/Hoshi fic now. What an awesome idea to make them bitchy rivals over their Pegasus ranks and Felix. That sounds great!

I also think Hoshi is a secondary device in the more important Gaeta/Baltar storyline (as if I'd choose to believe anything else!!) I think I must be the only person who isn't certain that Hoshi will die. I guess it does fit the webisode pattern - Duck and Jammer were tiny characters given large roles in the Resistance webisodes to build up to their canon deaths. It might well be the same deal with Hoshi. However Gaeta is already very depressed and angry - there is no reason to kill off his new boyfriend to make him more depressed and angry. If anything I see the new boyfriend as being something that could pull Gaeta back from the edge (the edge being the Gaeta/Zarek story we are getting excited over!)

With the webisodes being called 'The Face of the Enemy' do you think they are going to be focused on Zarek's new opposition force? Maybe putting a human face on this new "enemy" who will be standing against the human/cylon alliance? I hope so, cos I don't want the Zarek/Gaeta group to be "the baddies", simply the opposition. As we have discussed they both have understandable motives for turning against the Roslin/Adama camp.

Oooh, to think we might have Baltar/Gaeta, Zarek-Gaeta and Hoshi/Gaeta coming up in 4.5! AJ wasn't bluffing when he said Gaeta fans were in for a treat in the final BSG eps.

Bitchy rivals would be FUN. Although I might wait until the webisodes go, just to find out Hoshi's first name. (I'm betting on Lucas.)

This has very much occurred to me, like, immediately :) I'm hoping so! (I'm also amused because every now and then in comments I see mentions (joking, I think) of the idea of Gaeta/Zarek, and it makes me think I'm infecting others. HEHEHEHEHEEH.) That would make me a very, very happy girl. (Especially if Zarek ruffled Gaeta's curls paternally.)

I so want to write Gaeta introducing Hoshi to Zarek now.

And I totally agree about opposition vs. enemy. THAT I have total faith in the BSG writers to do.

I love the Hoshi-Dee idea! It's brilliant. It's a wonderful way of addressing the XO issue, which really is an issue. I mean, seriously. There must be so many people who have better training and more experience than Dee. It makes sense that there would be resentment.

Concerning Baltar/Gaeta, I don't share your faith. I just wrote something about that in a comment in falafel_musings' lj, actually.

Thanks! :) I may have to wait until after November, but I think I'll do it. Besides, Dee needs some fic love. I didn't like Dee/Lee, but for a while Dee/Billy was my OTP. (They totally got replaced by Adama/Roslin, but hey.) I'm really hoping she doesn't get a love interest in 4.5, because she's much more interesting without one.

I am optimistic, but let me tell you why. I don't think that they've shied away from Baltar/Gaeta for homophobic reasons. I think they've shied away from it for Cylon plot reasons; namely, is Gaeta one of the Cylons? Throwing him into the Cylon plot AND a homosexual plot is kind of overloading the character. The writer in me says you can do one or the other, but not both. Mainly because the Baltar/Gaeta plot is angsty, as is the Gaeta-is-a-Cylon plot idea. I think they've decided not to make Gaeta a Cylon, and now if they want they can go there.

I also don't think Baltar has to be interested back, or even have slept with Gaeta. To me, the important part of this pairing is that Gaeta was in love with Baltar and Baltar knew it and used it, and now regrets it.

Eek. More pontificating later, but I just looked at the time. Also, will comment on your awesome story- I was away or believe me, I would have read it sooner! :)

Thanks! Yeah, overall it went okay, although my stepfather drove us a bit bonkers. Just very negative. And not getting that toddlers need their schedules. ::sigh::

But we survived, and they didn't make us parachute out over North Carolina or anything, so I'd say it was a success!
