Something Cool!
Jan. 15th, 2009 07:30 amSo, still no answer from the insurance company, but I know now we're into the waiting period. We need to walk the fine line of nagging just a little, and not wanting to force a decision too quickly, or they'll just say "fine. fuck off. No." If this doesn't pan out, we might have to consider a 6-8 week in-hospital treatment in Baltimore, which is a few hours away. Not fun. But hopefully, it will work out and we'll just get going a little later than anticipated.
And I really should be better about this, this year. Happy birthday,
heidi8! Hope it's a good one and involves chocolate lava cake :)
So, cool stuff. Recs, really. I've been getting fic! And art! I'm so psyched.
Fic#1:
trovia wrote me Wings, which is Tyrol letting Gaeta take the Blackbird out for a spin. It's so sweet and happy and awesome.
Fic#2:
prophetkristy wrote me Syllabic, which is a Gaeta-drabble about his first day. And it has the two fathers :):):) That version seems to be getting added into my head as canon.
There's also the Little Black Dress challenge going on at
gaeta_squee, and some really excellent fic has been written there, too.
As for art,
tin_o_biscuits has been illustrating the airlock scene from The Touch of Your Grace!!!!! She said I could post what she's sent me, so I'll post the pages as she sends them here, and then the whole thing at
gaeta_squee once it's done. I am totally psyched- I've always wanted one of my fics to be illustrated like this, and the airlock scene in The Touch of Your Grace is one of my favorite scenes I've ever written. I was REALLY happy with that scene.

You may have to zoom in to read the dialogue, but this just makes me so happy.
I did have to laugh. Because we weren't at eating hospital, I was able to go to my MOPS meeting yesterday. We switched up the tables, and did some ice breaker questions. One was "what's your favorite TV show?" The conversation went like this:
Woman #1: Brothers and Sisters.
Others at the table: Oooh! I love that show!
Lissa: ::sheepish silence.::
Woman #2: Desperate Housewives.
Others at the table: Oooh! I love that show!
Lissa: ::sheepish silence::
Woman #3: I have to admit, I really like CSI.
Woman #4: Me too!
Woman #5: Yeah, it's really good. Lissa, what about you? What's your favorite show?
Lissa: Battlestar Galactica. ::crickets chirp:: Seriously- it's a great show. Very interesting, and lots of hot guys take off their shirts. (That gets a laugh.) Other than that, Heroes, LOST, Fringe...
Woman #3: Oh, I think my husband watches that....
Lissa: Yeah, I know. ::Sighs:: There needs to be a support group for women who like sci-fi.
Why can I not find a face-to-face girlfriend to talk about BSG with? It's very depressing. Do they not realize that this show is as trashy as any other, it just takes place on spaceships? Okay, and deals with the annihilation of humanity and oh-so-subtle commentary on Iraq and abortion and ethical treatment of prisoners and whatever. But still!
Oh well. That's why I go online. It's the geek table :)
