So, still no answer from the insurance company, but I know now we're into the waiting period. We need to walk the fine line of nagging just a little, and not wanting to force a decision too quickly, or they'll just say "fine. fuck off. No." If this doesn't pan out, we might have to consider a 6-8 week in-hospital treatment in Baltimore, which is a few hours away. Not fun. But hopefully, it will work out and we'll just get going a little later than anticipated.

And I really should be better about this, this year. Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] heidi8! Hope it's a good one and involves chocolate lava cake :)

So, cool stuff. Recs, really. I've been getting fic! And art! I'm so psyched.

Fic#1: [livejournal.com profile] trovia wrote me Wings, which is Tyrol letting Gaeta take the Blackbird out for a spin. It's so sweet and happy and awesome.

Fic#2: [livejournal.com profile] prophetkristy wrote me Syllabic, which is a Gaeta-drabble about his first day. And it has the two fathers :):):) That version seems to be getting added into my head as canon.

There's also the Little Black Dress challenge going on at [livejournal.com profile] gaeta_squee, and some really excellent fic has been written there, too.

As for art, [livejournal.com profile] tin_o_biscuits has been illustrating the airlock scene from The Touch of Your Grace!!!!! She said I could post what she's sent me, so I'll post the pages as she sends them here, and then the whole thing at [livejournal.com profile] gaeta_squee once it's done. I am totally psyched- I've always wanted one of my fics to be illustrated like this, and the airlock scene in The Touch of Your Grace is one of my favorite scenes I've ever written. I was REALLY happy with that scene.

You may have to zoom in to read the dialogue, but this just makes me so happy.

I did have to laugh. Because we weren't at eating hospital, I was able to go to my MOPS meeting yesterday. We switched up the tables, and did some ice breaker questions. One was "what's your favorite TV show?" The conversation went like this:

Woman #1: Brothers and Sisters.
Others at the table: Oooh! I love that show!
Lissa: ::sheepish silence.::
Woman #2: Desperate Housewives.
Others at the table: Oooh! I love that show!
Lissa: ::sheepish silence::
Woman #3: I have to admit, I really like CSI.
Woman #4: Me too!
Woman #5: Yeah, it's really good. Lissa, what about you? What's your favorite show?
Lissa: Battlestar Galactica. ::crickets chirp:: Seriously- it's a great show. Very interesting, and lots of hot guys take off their shirts. (That gets a laugh.) Other than that, Heroes, LOST, Fringe...
Woman #3: Oh, I think my husband watches that....
Lissa: Yeah, I know. ::Sighs:: There needs to be a support group for women who like sci-fi.

Why can I not find a face-to-face girlfriend to talk about BSG with? It's very depressing. Do they not realize that this show is as trashy as any other, it just takes place on spaceships? Okay, and deals with the annihilation of humanity and oh-so-subtle commentary on Iraq and abortion and ethical treatment of prisoners and whatever. But still!

Oh well. That's why I go online. It's the geek table :)

*squeak* I'm still so stoked you like it. ^___^

There needs to be a support group for women who like sci-fi.
YEAH THERE DOES. I bought an issue of Sci Fi magazine (pretty picture of AJ within) and they guy at the stand looked at me like "You're buying this for a man, right?" Gaaaah.

"You're buying this for a man, right?"

OK, that makes me just ANGRY. I'm already a little sensitive about this from years of Star Wars fandom, where no one seems to realize that there are *tons* of girls who love SW. (and maybe want to collect action figures of girls! Like maybe every costume of Padme's! *shakes fist as Hasbro*)

It is so awesome. I've had it up all day and keep looking at it. :)

Why is it so unbelievable that women like scifi? And why is it that so few of us do??? ::Sigh::

^______^ If you want, I can ink it all when I'm done (and when college allows *punches Business in it's face*). :D

Because girls are pretty and work in kitchens! They can't comprehend SCIENCE and FICTION at the same time!! Teehee!!

-_-;

oooh, if you're willing to ink, I'd LOVE it!!!!!

Yeah, but I'm not pretty! (I do like to cook, and I'm barefoot right now and raising babies.) And I'm a Ph.D scientist! And I write fiction! Where are the others like me????????

I am willing, it'll just have to wait 'til the other pages are finished and if I don't have homework. :)

Srsly, start a club. "We are women. We are geeks. WE EXIST!" XB Gah, this makes me remember when I worked at a comic and games store- people were GENUINELY SHOCKED that a girl was working there. -_-

I'll make T-shirts. (I know a gal who does screen printing! and she's also geeky!)

BTW, Tin? couldn't look at the comic in detail before at work, but now: WOW! I esp. love Felix' long lashes.

Why can I not find a face-to-face girlfriend to talk about BSG with?

Oh, I so understand. I'm not into BSG, but since I love certain manga so much...

After work one day , a bunch of us went out. Everyone was talking about their favorite tv shows and books. They looked at me. I said, "Well, I don't watch a lot of TV, but I do love anime and manga."

The crickets weren't even chirping.

I don't talk about it with them, needless to say. *laughs*

Good luck with the insurance company. I hope they are sensible.

Though I do have RL people I can talk to, since I found out a couple of flisters live in the same town as me.

Lucky on the RL people! I've got a couple people, but my husband doesn't geek like I do.

And thanks for the luck- I need it!

Heh. Thanks for the rec! I'm glad it made you happy. :)

Why can I not find a face-to-face girlfriend to talk about BSG with?

See, this is why people tend to not like me in real life. Like you, I manage to keep quiet (this is the full extend of my social skills) but the moment somebody implies that my shows are somehow more trashy than theirs, I tend to execute the "Why am I even talking to you?" look of doom (plus a snort and a headshake, on an evil day), which effectively finishes whole friendships. I get along well with those who snark back though.

You could try male friends. I find that works better for me. Also, they tend to like beer, and women, and soccer, which is especially nice in my case because I approve of all of that (God, I'm such a butch).

It did :)

See, most people don't think my shows are trashy- they think they're boring and inaccessible. And my family and I have total opposite taste. I get my sis being into ER- she's a nurse, for crying out loud. And I do understand my mom's love for CSI-type shows. I don't share it because I'm not a mystery girl, but I get it.

But when they start going on about reality shows... ::shudder::

Male friends sort of work. I have a couple. My best friend's husband and I can geek out really, really well. But I tend to avoid talking to him too much alone, because he's married and I'm married and I'm very mindful of a certain propriety there. I mean, I don't think either of us would ever jeopardizes our marriages, but I'm always very wary of spending too much time alone with someone I think I could be attracted to. So we limit our geeking because his wife doesn't watch. (But I can geek with her about Heroes and Lost.)

However, when my husband gets drunk, he does an awesome Tigh impression :)

I long for a Sci-Fi gal friend too.
I once answered a personal ad (even though it wasn't directed to my type) because the woman listed the X-men as one of her main interests. We did talk on the phone a few times, but it didn't work out.

Re: Your insurance problems, you may know this already, but...

Every state has a publicly funded law-firm to address issues concerning people with disabilities. Sort of like how there's a Legal Aid everywhere.
Unfortunately, unless your issue matches what they are already working on you probably won't get any direct help. However, they may be a very good place for finding resources and information about people and groups that can help you.

I once met a woman who was having trouble with her daughter's coverage through state-funded healthcare. She called her State Representative (which I thought was a brilliant idea) and her Rep made a couple phone calls to let tptb know that she was concerned and she expected them to work something out. Amazingly effective.

Be the squeeky wheel.

If you have any trouble tracking down the legal agency let me know and I will try to find out their name. I think it's different in different states, but I worked for the Oregon Advocacy Center, which was ours here.
My email is is in my lj profile.

Thank you so much for the advice! I'll have to see where this goes and what the next step is. I'm still pretty shaken up by the whole thing, but I'm really hoping the appeal will go well. The hospital also suggested we bring in my husband's HR department to work with the insurance company, so I think we'll try that, too.

The problem is that day hospital programs aren't the norm. We actually have excellent coverage, but this is an obscure program for a specialized problem. So they're trying to tell us it's not covered. However, it looks like in-hospital stays are. So, they can make an exception and pay for the less expensive day hospital treatment, or we'll go for the in hospital treatment. Heh. (I didn't phrase it like that, but that was the gist of it.) It's making me want to pound my head against something, very hard.

On the bright side, I found out that if we get approval, we can pretty much start up immediately- at least, the Tuesday following. So that's at least one good thing.

Thanks again- I appreciate any advice I can get!

I am right there with ya on needing F2F geek friends. I finally found some in Oregon, and then I finished grad school. :-(

I couldn't even find them in grad school half the time! And you'd think I'd have no trouble in a fuel science program. Although I suspect my advisor is chomping at the bit for tomorrow night- he was a HUGE Matrix fan and read his seven year old daughter Lord of the Rings. When I cracked a LotR joke at my rehearsal dinner she got it.

::sigh:: I miss my adviser now. He was so awesome.

I was expecting to meet geeky people *in* grad school, too. My "grad school" geeky friends were actually civilians--people I met when I found the local Browncoats! Why aren't there more geeky fandom people in graduate school? I don't understand!

(I loved my advisor, too. Not in the "he's one of us" way (he's very not), but he was just great to work for and a wonderful person. Wow, another person who didn't hate her advisor by the time she was done! Are we twins?)

THANKS!
