Looking over my past few entries, I've been notably absent. The only thing I've been commenting about is BSG. I'm sure many of you can guess that this is because I need the escapism, and that is partly true. But it's just been crazy, and I've been drained or not even anywhere near my computer.

Of course, we've been busy with eating hospital. I'm pleased to report it's going quite well. Toby is now eating bites of peaches, pears, and carrots. Tomorrow we add broccoli. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but this is HUGE.

It's also not as hard to watch as I thought it would be. I actually find myself laughing at times. (Like when he was shouting "I'll never eat pears! Never!") It's partly because it's not as painful as I felt it would be, and also... well. The day hospital is located in the rehab hospital. Every day we're there we see children recovering from terrible injuries and illnesses. There's a girl there where you can see how her skull was cut open for brain surgery. A bored teenaged girl who obviously should be a teacher/babysitter told me that she'd broken her back and was relearning how to walk. There are babies with feeding tubes, and children with IV ports in their arms, and teenagers with cancer playing video games. Look, I'm not trivializing what we're going through. Toby needs to learn to eat and he has a real problem. But I look at him and I look at what some of these children and parents have to deal with, and I shut the fuck up because I'll take my kid's sensory processing disorder over their struggles any day of the week.

The whole thing is still draining, though. Not in a bad way, just they feed him at 9:15, 12:15, and 3:15 (in theory), and then we can go home. In between, we have very little to do. There's a cool atrium that we visit, a little library that I can sometimes get him to go to, and a playroom. The playroom has a computer, and we've started going to Hulu and watching the classic Battlestar Galactica (and he is in love), and Dr. Horrible. Yes, I know, I'm terrible. Oh, and National Geographic videos on space and animals, especially manatees.

We also had my mom come and stay with us for the past two weeks. Aside from the fact she was a huge help, it was nice to see her again. Last weekend was especially nice. I took her out for her birthday to the Melting Pot (YUM), and then on Sunday we went shopping. It's been so long since I bought anything for myself, and I hit some great sales. I got 3 shirts and a pair of pants for $35 total at Eddie Bauer, and I got an awesome red half-trenchcoat for spring. It's hot. And Howard and I got to go out one night, which was nice.

So, yeah. Busy, but not necessarily bad.

Of course, we've been watching TV some. Not much, but some. My mom isn't into a lot of the same shows that we are (we'll both watch American Idol, but that's about it), so we DVRed a bunch of them and are catching up. (Except BSG. That one I insisted on.) Fringe still is keeping me, and LOST basically has me because I've invested this much time in it. (I'm so freaking lost. I HATE time travel.)

Speaking of time travel, Heroes has actually been growing on me again.

I know, right?

Seriously, though. I am a total sucker for persecution/prejudice/discrimination plotlines. It's the real reason I like slash. Children of Men is one of my favorite movies. So this Fugitives series is actually being pretty interesting for me.

Random thoughts:

1.) I really wish I'd rewatched the last finale. I forgot over half of what happened.

2.) Kind of bummed they killed Daphne. I thought she was adorable. However, I still don't get why they hooked her up with Matt and not Ando. She and Ando had major sparks. She and Matt didn't. But I suppose that would have broken my heart when she died, because Daphne/Ando would have become my Heroes OTP.

3.) I am SO glad it looks like Matt and Mohinder might get some screentime together. I felt so cheated last season when they set up this interesting scenario with the two of them and Molly and barely even addressed it. And no, it's not that it was slashy (although I kind of like it that way). But seriously. Two guys meet, and in four months they're raising a little girl together? And Matt has powers, which Mohinder sort of resents a little, and Mohinder is brilliant, which makes dyslexic Matt feel insecure? Come on- there was some interesting stuff here. I would have liked to see ANY of it. And there was barely anything. So, yeah. Very glad that they're actually getting some screentime together.

4.) Speaking of homosexual couples, was very amused and pleased at the way they they included the two girls this last time. Although both women were extremely attractive (and very reminiscent of Fried Green Tomatoes- the groom had better watch out or he'll be lunch), it didn't come off as a geekboy lesbian fantasy. Especially since it seemed like geekboys Ando and Hiro were TOTALLY oblivious.

5.) We've toned down the amount of Peter, which is good. Now a little less Claire please?

6.) Also related to Peter, I think they toned his powers down a little TOO much. But oh well.

7.) Nathan is becoming quite chilling. I'm not sure I get his transformation, but it's always been there. What happened to his religious conversion, by the way? (Oh, and loving Moria Kelly.) But subtle in the criticism much? Sheesh. Goes up there with "Oh, no, New Caprica isn't a commentary on Iraq."

8.) Sylar and his padawan of evil. For the most part they annoy me, until they turn on the music, or define "serial killer". At least this kid's supposed to be creepy.

9.) Adam the breathe underwater guy. I find him interesting just because come on- that is NOT a overly dangerous power, y'know? But I think that's exactly the point- he's absolutely no danger to anyone, and they're trying to round him up just because he's got this power. (Plus, I think he's kind of cute.)

10.) Have we gotten a name on the henchman there? The gray-haired one? I keep thinking he's Sylar's dad.

Well, I think I've pontificated long enough. Hope all is well with all of you!

Guh, Heroes. I used to get yelled at at work for not watching it. (well, not 'yelled at,' but the guys would shout 'GET OUT OF THE STORE NOW. YOU FAIL.' Good thing I had BSG to back up my geek cred. X3)

"I'll never eat pears! Never!"
LOL Awwwwww. That's presh. That's a precious battle-cry.

I drew Felix as Dr. Horrible, btw. :B

Yeah, I feel the same at our pediatric therapy center. Not that Two doesn't have Issues, but they're WAY the heck easier to cope with than what some of those families are facing.

So - how exactly ARE they getting Toby to eat?

The red trench sounds great!

Brocolli = YUM!

RE Heroes: I don't know why I've been so bored with this volume so far. I have great hopes for next week, because I love love love Bennet and his grey areas.

I agree about Daphne! Booo! The thing with her and Matt felt forced from the beginning (I wish they'd just LET THE STUPID FUTURE-ART THING GO ALREADY), but then to have him not even broken up about it? WTF? But she was adorable and I wanted to keep her.

Also agree with the dropping of M3 (you have an M3 icon!). They get too many balls in the air and then let some disappear. sigh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one calling the creepy kid Sylar's padawan. ha!

I was hoping the kid in the comic shop would be Seth Green. I forgot he's in Kansas (?), no California.

I am so glad that the eating hospital is going well for you and your family. It seems exactly what you guys needed. :-)
