Deadlocked.
Feb. 20th, 2009 11:08 pmUm, wow. I hate to say it, because I'd like to say Jane Espenson is awesome, but that was a rather forgettable episode. Well, not necessarily forgettable, but honestly? It didn't do much for me.
The Bill/Saul shippers must be going insane, though. HEhehehehehehe. I'm sorry, but it was pretty funny. Although somewhere Gaeta is fuming that he IS a gay character and got less insinuation in the whole show than these two got in one episode. (Well, not really. But still.)
See, the reason I couldn't get into this whole episode is the whole concept of love being needed to procreate. That's just BULLSHIT, okay? And it's not I don't believe in love. I do. But I don't believe in destiny, I don't believe in soul mates (okay, I do, but I believe soul mates are made, not born), and I don't believe in love being necessary to create life. I TOTALLY believe that love is important, but it isn't magical.
That said, I was sort of pleased when the baby died. It makes me a horrible person, I'm sure, but I'm very glad the baby wasn't saved by "love."
"How many dead chicks are out there?" Hehehehe. That made me laugh. Hot Dog, thank you.
I was hoping for some more Galen this episode, but no dice. But it looks promising that I'll get that next episode, so that's good.
I was also hoping for SOME reaction to Gaeta. I won't say I was cruelly disappointed, because I've given up hoping. But we didn't get to see Hoshi take the dradis station. We didn't see Felix's picture anywhere on the wall. No one so much as said his name. And I knew, the second we saw head!Six, we weren't going to get head!Felix. However, I do have to say I felt like Baltar was remembering him. He never said anything about him, but I'm thinking that that realization that he did care about Felix and lost him (in a friend way) was really motivating him through this episode. In fact, there was something about Paula in this that was reminding me of Felix, to the point I half expected to see him over her shoulder. I felt like Gaius was getting the chance to say all the things he wanted to say to Felix to Paula, to prevent her from going down that wrong path.
Of course, then they got big guns in the end.
I am so confused. Can Adama NOT flip-flop on an issue from episode to episode? Please???
Although it's nice to see that Ellen is still Ellen. Hee.
I really stick to my original (serious) theory that we're never going to hear about Daniel again. Next week is going to be Starbuck centric episode, with the subplot being Boomer/Tyrol. ANd then we only have three left. I'm still really hoping Daniel isn't Starbuck's father. I don't know what I want her to be, but not a hybrid. Otherwise, why retcon Nicky? (And how do you explain the Viper?)
I'm really curious what's going to happen with Baltar. And I must admit, as much as I was hoping for head!Felix, I was really glad to see head!Six back. I'd kind of assumed that the deleted scene of Head!Six leaving was filmed in case the writer's strike made finishing the series impossible.
And Anders should be back. YAY! I was worried that because I said I liked him, Ron would kill him this episode. Maybe he's going to be nice to me?
Okay. Enough with the Final Five for a while. Let's get back to the humans please!

Date: 2009-02-21 04:48 am (UTC)Daniel won't be mentioned again. He was made up to explain away why there had been the gap between 6 and 8 earlier.

We did see Hoshi AT the Dradis, he alerted Adama to the Raptor... As soon as Baltar said the word "mutiny" I was like "GODDAMMIT MENTION FELIX." But nope. No Head!Felix, no remembrance. Secondary characters get nothing.

I loved the "... AND GUNS!" Gaius was great this episode.

Date: 2009-02-21 07:49 am (UTC)Right on. If RDM had killed both of my favorites, I would cry. Again.
The whole Cylons Need Love thing is really... weird. I'm not a fan of it. Though I was sad they lost the baby. And I keep wanting to make a totally inappropriate icon of Saul/Bill, just filled with quotes they have said about each other.
No one is ever going to mourn for Felix. They can put Cylon pictures on the remembrance wall, but the guy who kept the fleet running for four years? Nah. It's pretty upsetting. It's one of the reasons I'm not completely stoked to find out what happens. I don't really care what Kara is, to be honest.
Gaius was hilarious. I love that they actually trusted that man with firearms. Large, large firearms. No good can come of this. Somewhere, looking down from Atheist Heaven (oxymoron, I know) Felix is like, "Well, damn, I should have waited a week and gotten the cult on my side."

Date: 2009-02-21 05:40 pm (UTC)THIS. It would probably make my Top 5 worst moments of BSG list; the cylons belief that love is the magic ingredient for procreation. *reaches for sickbag*
I miss the humans too. Enough with the cylon soap opera!

Date: 2009-02-21 07:08 pm (UTC)Hot Dog also make me laugh like a loon. Pretty much the only good / memorable line of the episode. I used to really like Jane's work. Though I'm not sure I can really blame her for BSG going out the airlock, because it's not just her.
I'm once again infuriated because, hi, Baltar was making THE EXACT SAME POINTS AS FELIX, and Adama likes Felix about 2000000 times more than Baltar. And yet, Baltar gets Big Guns for His Cause, and Felix gets them shot at him? I didn't want to believe
Just seeing Hoshi calling out the Dradis contacts made me sniffly. I hold it in my heart, at least, even if TPTB are complete hacks!!

Date: 2009-02-21 07:20 pm (UTC)Real quick though, cause I'm getting itchy. I finished the Sing-Along Mutiny. Would you be willing to give it a quick look-over? (No big deal if you can't, but I'm dying to post this sucker ;) )

Date: 2009-02-22 03:28 am (UTC)I think (hope) that the writers don't actually expect us to buy into the love-makes-babies theory. It could just be a case of the characters believing it (although why Tigh would buy into such baloney is beyond me).
I suspect Daniel will be back, if only because they wouldn't have bothered giving him a name if we were never going to hear from/about him again. I just hope they don't have more speshulness in store.
