I find myself in a weird place. Did I like this episode? Well, it was nowhere near as offensive as last week's claptrap, that much I can say. The truth is I did like this episode, but I would have liked it much better as a mid-season episode (or hell, even last week's episode) than as four from the end. The Tyrol/Boomer stuff was AWESOME. (Talk about everything people want in the worst way. I'm not a Tyrol/Boomer shipper much, but OUCH, and I loved it.) The Starbuck stuff was touching and moving, but really, what did we find out?

1.) Starbuck is depressed, and rightfully so.
2.) Starbuck knew how to play the piano, too.
3.) Starbuck has daddy issues, which we pretty much knew already.
4.) Starbuck knows "All Along the Watchtower."

That's it. I thought it was well done, but frankly I'm much more interested in finding out how she showed back up on Galactica in a shiny new Viper than I am about her music and Daddy issues.

Someone called it that the piano man was a head character. Heh.

Random thoughts:

1.) Chief sort of pissed me off this week. You're arguing against the death penalty? (Actually, you're arguing against a trial?) Where were you during Blood on the Scales? Why is it okay to execute Tom and Felix, but not Boomer? If you're going to object on a moral grounds, you have to do it for everyone, not just the hot chick you slept with. (I SO wanted Adama to say that.) And I was very, very pleased that Roslin basically said "frak you" and was going to send Boomer to trial anyway. At least that's consistent.

2.) The real star of this episode? Bear McCreary. Still can't believe he's only THIRTY. That made me feel old and unaccomplished.

3.) Hee. "Slick" there was Mike from Days of Our Lives. I used to watch that like my second year of grad school. I didn't know what fanficcing or shipping was, but Mike/Carrie was totally my OTP of DooL. He's aged pretty well.

4.) I really, really, really want Felix's picture to be on that damn wall. Tom's, too, but Tom isn't a Galactian.

5.) I know he's not my favorite character, but could we actually get some Lee action? Or evidence he exists? Same with any other humans?

6.) Hera's kidnapping. On the one hand, how many times can we kidnap the poor Poptart? On the other... ::SNIFFLE:: Athena broke my heart, especially as she was whacking Helo for sleeping with Boomer.

You know, everything we thought was crazy on that frak chart has come true except for two things: 1.) They messed up Baltar's follower that he slept with, and 2.) the Gaeta-Caprica link. I still think that's webisodes, especially since it sounds like the webisodes were meant to be shot during the finale, but a teeny, tiny part of me goes "Daniel?" But I doubt that.

In a sad case of irony, a real life Amber Alert came on during the show around here. I could have done without that.

7.) IF WE MUST HAVE KFC COMMERCIALS EVERY BREAK, MAKE THEM DIFFERENT AND DON'T PUT TWO KFC COMMERCIALS IN THE SAME DAMN BREAK! HONESTLY! IT'S WORSE THAN THOSE DAMN LYCANS!

8.) It did hurt a little to see Hoshi in Gaeta's position. I'm really curious as to the role he's going to play. I was hoping we'd get some insight to it tonight, but figured we wouldn't because I already knew it was a Starbuck-Boomer episode. But it sounds like he might have something vaguely significant to do in the end, and that the Gaeta/Hoshi relationship adds an extra layer to it.

9.) The All Along the Watchtower reveal seriously was cool, even if it is pointing to Kara being the first hybrid. (Which, please no.)

10.) Seriously. Enough with the KFC commercials already.

Oh, also? I tried to read the TWoP recap of Deadlock. FORGET IT. I got to the part where he said that Cap Six killed the baby to "spare it" and it was an "act of compassion" and clicked away in UTTER DISGUST.

Look, I'm a mom, okay? And that was NOT an act of compassion. It was an act of cruelty. If I knew that this town was going to be nuked and there was nothing I could do it stop it, I want my kids and my husband right there next to me. I want my babies in my arms. I want their last thought and their last sight on Earth to be one of love, and I would want them to die knowing just how much they were loved, with our arms around them. And selfishly, if all four of us were going to die and there was no stopping it, I would want my babies in my arms.

I rarely say this about people, especially ones I don't know, but what an asshole. That scene is one of the most despicable (but well done in terms of setting the tone) in the series to me.

I'm gonna go hug my boys now.

*rubs temples* Is it weird that I saw EVERYTHING coming in this episode? I was so bored! I was like "yeah, knew it... knew it... DUH." And now everyone thinks Starbuck's a Cylon. But she didn't know the song! Her dad taught it to her! So Daddy Thrace is Daniel. His name on the CD case (or whatever it was) Started with a D and ended with an L. Guh.

I'll admit though, I was REALLY hoping the crayon notes were Gaeta's Lament. That woulda been crazy.

Hoshi made me so sad. [livejournal.com profile] tracy_loo_who was right, he has this perpetual "Hand in the cookie jar" puppy-dog look. And I thought (or maybe imagined) that his voice sounded weak when he was giving the orders 'cause he's doing his bb's job *sniffle*

The Starbuck stuff seems a bit predictable, although maybe we're wrong. I hope so. The Boomer stuff wasn't for me :)

I thought the same thing about Gaeta's lament :)

I actually didn't think Hoshi sounded weak at all. I thought he sounded fairly competent and strong. After all, although it must be weird for him to take Gaeta's job, he did it the entire time Gaeta was on Demetrius and likely spelled him some. I'm wondering if we'll find out much more about him. I have an AWESOME backstory worked out for him, about how he became rather bitchy at times, but maintained a very strong faith at the same time, and could be so devoted. But I want to wait to see if it still works, because it does end up with him caring very deeply about Cain, and a few other issues as well (like explaining how he's still a Lieutenant at 40.)

I want to know if he can navigate!

Thanks :) Seriously, I'm excited about this backstory. I'm just not sure how it fits in in terms of writing, so I'm not repeating myself. (Because it's tempting to make it a story in itself.) Hmmm....

Seriously, I feel the same way. And what of Baltar? Did he and his followers really manage to stay out of trouble for the several weeks after which this episode is supposed to take place? Color me surprised!

Also, calling Hera a "Poptart" = so cute! :D

At least it sounds like Baltar's one of the plots next week. Thank God! Yeah, I REALLY want to know what's up with Baltar these days. That's one of my unanswered questions- I want to see where Baltar ends up and what kind of ending he has and what kind of leader he is and DAMN IT! I want him to actually say Felix's name, because I feel like he's the one person that will anymore. ::Sigh::

I can't claim credit for the Poptart. I think that's off the TwoP things I'm not allowed to do aboard the Galactica list, but it just WORKS! :)

Geee, RDM, it would be nice if we had an episode that, oh, I don't know, TOLD US SOMETHING NEW. sheesh.

BEAR MCCREARY IS AWESOME. yes. (hey now, I'm turning thirty on Monday. don't make me feel more pathetic than I already do with my lack-of-boyfriend. ;-P)

Awww, Hoshi. I was hurting for him.

How can Hera be so adorable?

Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I liked this episode, but the Starbuck stuff could have gone in Season 2 or 3, to be honest. ::Sigh::

I was hurting for Hoshi, too. Is it bad I'm almost hoping he dies? I'm normally not much for reunion fic, but the more I think about it, the more I'm liking the idea that he really cared very deeply about Hoshi, and really did not want him going down with him and was willing to sacrifice love and personal happiness for what he believed was right. It adds more poignance to Felix's arc (like it needs it), and although I think Baltar was Felix's grand passion, I think Hoshi could have been the one he could have built a much more lasting relationship with. Baltar is his Apollo, and Hoshi is his Sam. And fortunately, it looked like Felix was actually going to appreciate the one that deserved it :)

And Hera IS adorable. Those CURLS! (She's really supposed to be Helo and Athena's? And not Tory and Felix's?)

... You could always write this. She'd still be the first hybrid. :D?

Hera was a totally different Hera this week. I was annoyed.

Heh. My thing with it was that Sharon got morning sickness WAY too early. I didn't get it until I was like 4 weeks pregnant, and that's the norm. (Course, I didn't get much, but still.)

Realistically, I vote for "the show made scientific oversights " :)

I was sitting there the whole time thinking "All My Cylons!" :) Complete with mistakenly sleeping with your wife's identical-look-a-like, deceiving an ex-lover into springing you from prison, and baby-stealing. It was like I managed to catch up on One Life To Live without needing to be home during the daytime.

But I agree. I kind of liked it. I just wish it had been earlier in the season, and not this close to the end.

And I was very, very pleased that Roslin basically said "frak you" and was going to send Boomer to trial anyway. At least that's consistent.
In a weird way, that made me happy too.

Every time I saw Hoshi I got sad inside. And also, at least there was a passing mention of the mutiny.

I loved the Tyrol/Boomer stuff. I mean, I've told people before that BSG is a pretty trashy show- they just are in space. The Starbuck stuff was well done, just... not forward-moving enough.

I got sad about Hoshi, too. I'm dying to know what happens with him in the next few episodes, just because Alessandro Juliani hinted that there are things he does that can be colored by the Gaeta/Hoshi relationship. And the way he said it, it almost sounded like... well, in the webisode commentaries, Jane Espenson said Gaeta/Hoshi worked out better storytelling wise than Gaeta/Narcho. I'd been assuming she meant from Gaeta's POV (and frankly, it did, just because I can understand why Gaeta would ask for Baltar over Hoshi, since he already said goodbye and made his peace with Hoshi, but asking for Baltar over Narcho would have been weird), but maybe she meant from Hoshi's POV.

Can it be Friday yet?

I liked it, too, mostly because I have been waiting all season for Tyrol to get a chance to tell her how sorry he was for being such a meany-face about her being a cylon when oops! he's a cylon too. Seriously, I have been wanting that for ages.

Oh, Hoshi, please do something frakking awesome. That might end up being the only bright side to Felix being gone. Please be a totally secret badass. (And yeah, that would have been weird, to ask for Baltar over the lover who stood by him, even though they went down in flames.)
