Ugh. I have NO energy today. I really need to clean because the house is a disaster, but I've got a cold or a sinus infection or something and just feel beat. :P

Random tidbets of geek news:

I'm so ordering this. "Echoes of New Caprica." Lots of Zarek. Maybe not well drawn, but Zarek. And it looks like Gaeta standing behind Baltar. Or at least, that's what I'm going to say. Truthfully, I can't figure out WHO it is, but Gaeta makes sense. Of course, watch this completely joss my Youth's Final Luxury series, but hey. Tigh's really well drawn on the cover, though, and at least Kara doesn't look like she should be nursing but is totally engorged, like she does on the Final Five covers.

[livejournal.com profile] bsgficexchange starts posting tomorrow. See if you can guess mine! Okay, so if you're on my locked f-list, which is probably anyone who would actually read the fics there, you'll guess it no problem because I talked about it there. But still. I have this nasty feeling I'm pretty easy to recognize, ESPECIALLY in fanfic writing. Not because I have this highly unique style, but because I build up these elaborate backstory universes, and then I constantly reference them. Like Alphard being a werewolf. Or Narcho and Hoshi having a relationship back before the series ever started. Or Peter being a candy maker.

Also, because I know a few of you might be interested, there's some talk (serious talk) about doing a remix challenge for BSG, as long as [livejournal.com profile] rose_griffes and I keep our butts in gear. A Remix is where you take someone's story and basically rewrite it. There will be much more detail later (or many of you are probably familiar with the big, multifandom remix), but the reason I'm tossing it out there now is because the requirements to play are that you have at least a.) 3 500+ words stories or b.) 5 100+ word stories available to remix. I know a lot of people are new to BSG fandom and might enjoy playing, so if you're looking to play and are a story short or something, you've got some time :) Like I said, much more coming later.

I should clean. I really should. The house looks like it exploded. So, off we go!

Oh, Tokyopop. I am intrigued yet suspicious about that comic. I refuse to subscribe to Tokyopop's reality where everything they publish = manga. Western-written stuff =/= manga, Tokyopop. >_> And I know already YFL > this. (omg I saw a license plate yesterday that had YFL on it and I cracked up. And a week ago I saw ZRK. XD)

I'm not familiar with Tokyopop. Or manga vs. Western stuff. And to be honest, I'm not sure I care too much, as long as the story is good. the only graphic stuff I've ever read is Watchmen, although I really want to read some more and always meant to read the Serenity comics.

But maybe it will force me to finish YFL earlier. (Maybe not, since I have an April 15 deadline on the LBGQT one, which is going to also be the Gaeta/Jake one. (Well, not REALLY. But as close as I'm gonna get.)) But yeah, the YFL New Caprica stuff is done. We're into the mutiny now, and they aren't going anywhere near that with this book, I suppose. Actually, it sounds like they're going to do the Saggitaron massacre, which I've always wanted to know how that plays out.

Eh, it's a personal gripe I have against them. They tote all their Western-made stuff as manga which as far as I'm concerned should only apply to Japanese-borne stuff. >:| I mean, if you're doing that, why not call it manwha, too? Oh, no, wait, manwha doesn't sell. Manga does. -_- I used to work in a comic store, I could rec ya some awesome stuff. :D

Actually, it sounds like they're going to do the Saggitaron massacre, which I've always wanted to know how that plays out.
I was thinking that too, given the synop of Baltar's chapter. Hurm.

Did you still want to try to get together this spring at some point?

Hope you get some rest, soon.

Definitely! I think we started this conversation, and it got lost somewhere. Which direction works best for you?

It's "officially" your turn to come up here, but that depends on whether you'd like to get out of the house vs avoiding a road trip with small boys. I don't feel that strongly about it. If the weather is nice we can go in our backyard or to nearby playgrounds. Wed and Fri are generally best for me - what about you?

From: [identity profile] lls-mutant.livejournal.com
If you don't feel too strongly about it... eh, it really doesn't matter much to me, either. Fridays are better than Wednesdays, that one I can answer definitively.

Want to aim for the Friday after Easter? (The ... 17th?) The 24th? Since neither of us really cares, how about if we stick to straight alternating for now, then, and have you come up here with the boys? Since the girls will be in school, there hopefully won't be any tussles over toys this time. ;) And, like I said, depending on weather (and whether Trevor is walking yet), we could go to a playground if we want.

Sorry this took so long!

Friday after Easter sounds good. However, I can't believe I forgot this and I am a total dork- would it be possible for you to come here? I really hate to ask, but Howard reminded me that I need to do Toby's snack time at lunch, and I really shouldn't be out of the house for that.

From: [identity profile] aome.livejournal.com
Because of the unexpected drama with our cars, I think I may need to postpone to the following Friday (4/24). Will that be all right? Sure, I can come down again - you've sweated Toby's eating program and I don't want to mess that up. The usual mid/late-morning sort of thing?

If that's Gaeta, that's a really crappy rendition of him, but I can't think of who else it would be behind Baltar like that.

You have succeeded in making me curious about this. I'll have to see if my husband's comic book store has it in stock yet. If I get a chance to see it, I'll give you the heads up on how it looks.

More back story on New Caprica is just fine by me.

I know. It's part wishful thinking, and part who the heck else could it be? I don't think you can tell a NC Baltar story without SOME inclusion of Gaeta. It just shouldn't be possible.

I'd love to know how it looks though!

BTW- I know you're crazy busy, but just in case you missed it, I added Part 7 (http://lls-mutant.livejournal.com/230498.html#cutid1) to Youth's Final Luxury. :)

I'll be picking my husband up from work tonight, actually, so I'll ask him about it, see if they have it in the store.

Ooh! Part 7! I shall check it out.

I honestly didn't know there were BSG books to be had out there. My friend bought me a copy of 'Battlestar Galactica and Philosophy' recently and that's good reading. Let me know what the graphic novel is like! I do love the New Caprica arc.

Hmmn...do you have to rewrite a character's whole story or just part of it. I was contemplating having a go at a Gaeta Lives story, just to see if I could pull it off. This would be that fic where is Felix gets a repeal from execution on the grounds of insanity/diminished responsibility and the angsty stuff that might follow from that.

From: [identity profile] lls-mutant.livejournal.com
Yeah, apparently there's a whole series on Zarek before he was incarcerated. I didn't read it, but I read the summaries, and that's what I based his backstory on in YFL. That and Hatch's interviews.

I would guess at the rate we're moving, it will take at least a week to get the community/challenge up and going, and I think sign-ups usually extend for two weeks. So you've got a minimum of three weeks, which is why I mentioned it now. The truth is I'd LOVE to get my Hoshi-Dee stuff done, because I'm writing it all from Dee's POV and would adore it if someone wrote it from Hoshi's POV. But we'll see. ::Sigh::

Too many stories to tell, not enough time! :)

Tell me about it! Even after I get my Baltar/Gaeta fic out of the way, I still have bunnies for my Ellen-New Caprica fic, a S1 Boomer fic and my Felix!lives (but is declared insane) fic. I think I promised somebody some Kat/Kara femmeslash too.

I can't wait for your Dee POV! I love your Dee.

Oooh- I'm looking forward to your Ellen one. (Actually, I'm looking forward to all of them.) I'm frantically typing YFL8 right now, but I need to do Felix/Jake (sort of), Baltar/Tyrol, and I need to figure out what I'm doing with Hoshi's backstory, plus Dee-Hoshi.

the one thing I can't figure out with this Dee-Hoshi thing is where it ends. It's focused on them not liking each other very much, and in the outline I just hit a point where they really hit a MAJOR turning point. I'm wondering if that's the end of the story. Would you mind taking a look at the outline for me and telling me what you think?

Woohoo! Baltar/Tyrol. <3 That pairing needs more love (even if it is strange.)

When you write Felix/Jake and [livejournal.com profile] tin_of_biscuits posts her Felix/Centurion I think I'll need to write Felix/Daggit. D:

Yaaaaaay remix!
3 500 word stories, that's it? I think I made the cut for that last week alone. :)

How does the remix thingy work? The only story I've published that's long enough is "Carry Me Home." Obviously, my WIP is long enough and then some, but I'll be quite shocked if I get that one finished and up in the next two weeks. I could try to crank out two more short ones . . . we'll see.

Or is that three 500+ words? (rather than one 3,500 word like my sleep-deprived brain was telling me). Yeah, that would make more sense. I'm good now, really ;)

"Echoes of New Caprica."
I must be desperately missing this show, because I actually thought "That looks kind of awesome!" when I clicked that link.

And IMO that *has* to be weirdly-drawn Gaeta because nobody else makes sense hanging out behind weirdly-drawn Six and Baltar. Also, the description makes it sound like it's based on that dropped "Sagittaron massacre" storyline from season three, which would involve Gaeta. (It was the original meaning of the whisper scene.)

FYI, this is what I found when inquiring at my husband's comic book store. I didn't realize that this wasn't out yet, so info was limited. But here's what his store's distributor has to say in their catalog about "Echoes of New Caprica". It's a tiny bit more detailed:

Culled from storylines that didn't make it past the cutting room floor, the Battlestar Galactica manga takes place in Season 3 of the popular television series. In "Teacher's Pet," teacher Laura Roslin struggles to educate and inspire her young students with a "human-centric" curriculum on New Caprica, until she begins to suspect one of her own students may be a Cylon informer.

Back on board the Galactica after Adama's daring rescue of the human population in "Shelf Life," President Tom Zarek is determined to root out and punish any human traitor suspected of collaborating with the Cylons during the occupation by death. But will he be able to follow through when a long-lost friend is on top of the target list?

And in "Visitation," Starbuck is stunned when she discovers the young girl Kacey living in squalor in the shantytown, so stunned that in her attempt to help, she crosses a line that shocks even those closest to her.

Don't know if you've seen this synopsis elsewhere. Anyway, I had him order it for me, so if you haven't got it by then, I'll be happy to give you my .02 as soon as I get a look at it.

::bounces::

Oh. My. God. Is there any chance that long-lost friend could be Gaeta? ::crosses fingers hard::

Don't worry. I'm ordering it :)

Hmm...At first, I highly doubted the long lost friend was likely to be Felix, but then I started thinking, "but who else would be at the top of the list?"

Can't wait to find out...

From: [identity profile] lls-mutant.livejournal.com
Yeah, that's just it. Unless it's someone Tom ends up killing himself, that we never saw.

But that is one thing I'd love official resolution to- Felix knew who signed his death warrant. How could he enter into an alliance with the same guy? I mean, sure, I can make it work in fanfic, but I'd love to see the canon version.

::tries not to get hopes up:: But also, the guy (I think it's a guy) standing behind Baltar on the cover? I suspect that's supposed to be Felix, if only because I can't figure out who else it should be.
